Rover
MG Maestro Turbo
Great in a straight line, couldn’t stop it and it wouldn’t go around corners.

Bit boring, but here goes.

1987 - 1982 Honda Civic 1.3 (borrowed from
mumsie)
1989 - 1986 Metro Turbo (pocket rocket)
1992 - 1989 Astra 1.3GL (err....practical)
1997 - 1991 Landcruiser VXTD (The beast!!)
2000 - 1996 Scooby impreza turbo (WOW!!!)

Have to say the Metro was the best fun, you could burn off practically any car with it, but the scoob is in a different league.

Landcruiser was a great machine, 85MPH top speed, even with a 2 ton trailer.

Bright yellow Lada Riva estate - best car I ever had. Reliable as anything, and noone nicked it. Or tried to. Or would have wanted to....Trade it in for my scooby anyday if I could find it again....

D

I wouldn't write off the 205Gti just yet. Drove one for the first time in ages a few weeks ago. OK it rattled like hell and has nowhere near the power of the Subarus - but it was still outstanding.

Took one on a track day a few years ago and it was the first time I really understood what it meant to steer a car on the throttle - magic!

If you get a chance, try a 1.6 with non-power assisted steering - a true classic.

Here we go...

1) 81-90 Morris Minor, what a great car! Family heirloom, my Dad's still got it, still on its original engine. Avoid if you like braking or going round bends.

2) 90-91 Morris Ital. Look I was skint alright. Handled worse than the moggie I think.

3) 91 -95 Nissan Sunny. Bought it 2 years old at an absolute steal. Boring, but soooo reliable. Actually had the confidence to sell it to a friend who's still got it, still no problems!

4) 95-96 Audi 80 Sport. Now we're getting there, loved it to bits, but in the end couldn't afford to keep it in tyres and service history (doing > 30k a year at the time)

5) 96-97 Rover 214. Back to cheap and cheerful motoring. Not. What a mistake. This 2 year old service historied low mileage example spent more time in the garage than on the road. It's peice de resitance was when the engine blew up. Never again. Decided it was cheaper to buy a new car than keep it going (God I pity the poor mug who's got it now) so...

6) 97-00 Nissan Almera GTI. The GTI cognoscenti amongst you will know that this car was a cracker in its day. I really liked it a lot, and once again soooo reliable. However they don't hold their value too well (don't understand why really) so as the miles were mounting it had to go while it was still worth something. Quite sad to see it go.

7) 00- MY99 Scooby 5 door. Aaah, that's put the smile back on me face...

Cheers

Simon

The horse power progression roll of fame (shame?)

'T' reg Vauxhall Chevette 1.2. First car so a bit of a soft spot. RWD in the snow - nice! About 55hp

'D' reg Seat Ibiza. Nice engine shame about the rest (or what was left of it after 3 years very gentle use ) 64hp

'G' reg Ren 5 GT Turbo. Excellent fun. 129hp

'F' reg Lancia HF Integrale 8v. Even more excellent fun. 185hp

'Q' reg V6 Sylva Striker (Caterham replica) Very frightening. Even worse in the wet. Only!! 160ish hpt effectively with just a seat bolted on the engine and wheels.

'H' reg Pug 405 Mi16. Great chassis and engine 165hp

'N' reg BMW 323 coupe. Great build quality. Took a lot of abuse from new but was evn better when I sold it 3 years later.175hp

'T' reg Porsche Boxster. Fantastic car if slightly under-powered. But baby on the way 204hp

'P' reg P1. Not yet run in but things are looking good. 276?hp

Ranking ex P1

1 Boxster
2 Integrale
3 BMW!

In my 10 year driving life:

(17) '87 Metro 1.3
(18) '88 VW Golf 1.3 C - GTI'd and then stolen!!
(20) '89 Volvo 340 - What car won't be stolen in Manchester??
(23) '95 Citroen ZX 1.8 Furio
(26) '97 Subaru Impreza Turbo UK
(27) '99 Subaru Impreza Turbo UK

Yes, I know there's a Volvo there, but if you lived in Manachester for 3 years, what car would you choose, that would get over looked????

I dare say that my next car will be a Subaru, but I would love a new beetle, or a Smart car just to run around in!!!

82-85 1980 Nissan Cherry coupe
85-90 1985 Nissan Silvia
I loved the Silvia but driving in the Peak District in winter in a RWD car was just toooo hairy.
90-95 1989 Subaru Legacy 2.2 Estate
Surpisingly good fun, although it suffered badly from body-roll. Got me hooked on 4WD.
95-00 1984 Impreza Turbo 5dr
00-?? 2000 Impreza Turbo 5dr with PPP. The most fun you can have in public

After 10 years of driving Subarus, I'm not sure I'd be safe driving a 2WD car

Over the last 10 years:

- E Reg. Ford Escort 1.4L 3-dr (OK for a 1st car)
- J Reg. Ford XR2i (Fun car - pity about the insurance!)
- M Reg. Ford Escort 1.6 16v (mainly to save on insurance!)
- P Reg. Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi (nice handling, a bit under-powered)
- P Reg. Nissan 200SX Touring (great car, sorry to let it go, but I HAD to have a scooby)
- W Reg. Subaru Impreza Turbo (only had it 2 months, but it must be the best so far!)

BTW, the 200SX is still within the ScoobyNet community (until Gary gets another scooby or an Evo!).

Cheers,
Andy

Hmm... I thought there would be more 205 GTi owners in this thread... it's only that and the scoob which I've had that go-kart feel in!

My meurtas:

1981 Fiesta 950 beige poo (though the log book claimed the colour was 'tuscan')...
1987 Pug 205 1.9 grey - the fruits of a misspent student loan
1996 Golf GTi - bright yellow with matching yellow leather and stereo - limp lettuce
1998 Scoob UK Turbo - red nutter which also doubles as an ice cream van for the first 10 minutes

Angry

My list is as follows (I think), subject to an increasingly poor memory. Of these, 9 were owned during 1975 alone.

1964 Triumph Herald (flat out everywhere)
1963 Mini Cooper
1966 A-H Sprite (followed over the years by 11 other Spridgets including modsports racers)
Mk I Escort Mexico (2)
Lotus Europa twin-cam (hey man this WAS 1975)
Coke-bottle Cortina 2000 GT
850 Mini
1000cc Mini
Escort RS 2000 (kept for 9 years)
Escort XR3 (2 - don't ask me why, I'll never live it down)
VW Golf Mk2 GTi (lovely car, so strong) - company car
Sierra Cosworth 3-door (kept for 11 years, originally my company car)
Vauxhaul Cavalier GSi - company car
Peugeot 205
Peugeot 405 DT Estate (Still with it)
WRX STi IV - what a pity I can't get a company car these days!

I'll edit if I remember any more.

Oh yes, forgot a Fiesta 1.1GL
