Plenty to choose from.

Civicx or CRX good as stacks of spares and some half reasonsable unfishing cars for sale on ebay for not much.
Rover 200/400 Turbo. 400 seems to go for peanuts.
Swift GTi

I did a similar thing and now own 3 Charade GTtis. Bought last one for £250. Ok needs a bottom end rebuild but thats not too dear if you can do it yourself.

Advantage of a Gold or Pug will be the parts. Stacks of bits for sale for very little so if you are on a budget that could be the way to go

Hi Allan - I actually really fancy a GTTi, but theres none around advertised!!! Don't suppose you know of any? Swift GTi is similarly hard to find.....

Had thought of those others above too like the ZX and 325i, also seen a few Rover 620ti's! LOL!

SJ

There is a GTTi on findit.co.uk but it seems really expensive. £2200.
Thought I would mention it.

Cheers mate - does seem a tad expensive, theres another on there for 900 but says sale due to vandals, so I think thats worth avoiding!

Seems I have a good few choices of cars, so I think I'll just keep my eyes and ears open and get the best one that comes along!

ScoobyJawa, I happen to run the owners club so know of the odd one or two.

Have a quick look at www.gttioc.co.uk and then drop me a mail from the contact details in there. Also check out the buyers guide so you know what to look out for.

You will find the best time to buy is Jan-Feb when the cheaper ones come up for sale.

I agree 100%, an R5gtt. I went to an airfield track day yesterday with some mates from rtoc and we had 5 gtt's on track. They took an absolute hammering all day long and the only problems were a knackard set of pads and a turbo elbow that came loose somehow!!! Keep them standard and they'll take everything you can chuck at them and last all day long. For example, one of the ones we used yesterday was bought for £200 a couple of years ago, it's now got 130k on the clock, the engine has never been apart and it just keeps on going. This was it's 4th track day and it also used to be the owners daily driver. If they do go wrong then parts are cheap as chips and they are really easy to work on. And they are such fun to drive on the stock suspension and 13" wheels, and can suprise quite a few cars on track

If anyone's interested there are plenty of pics from yesterday here:

I know a Nissan sunny ZX 3 door 16v for sale, reliable, fairly quick and they handle well. Bargain at £650 for what is a rare late 80's hot hatch. get bored with the power and a 200sx engine isn't too hard a swap.

or what about a 3 door mazda 323 gti, cheap, not too rust prone, 139bhp as standard, reliable, a bit different and they handle well (nice and oversteery on the limit )

Ever considered a Mitsubishi Starion Turbo? Quite rare these days but a hoot to drive. A quick search on Autotrader brought up one for £995. I used to have one and in their day, they were quick. not sure about spare parts though. There is also a club somewhere.......

If you needed something stronger then it has to be a Capri 2.8i Special. I know it's a Ford but the engine is bomb proof. Not to mention stacks of cheap spares around.

Just more food for thought.
