Question worn valve guides

Hello,

Looking for a bit of advice and wonder if anyone here can help. I'm looking at getting a Mini for trackdays and found a really good one except of one thing that was listed in the advert which stated that it does smoke a bit on the over run which is due to worn valve guides.

How much of a problem or worry would this be? Is it sometime that i could live with or would the engine go pop after a few hard laps round a track?

Advice please.

Thanks,

Chris.

Engine won't 'pop' but would use oil and if excessive, the trackday organiser may not be amused. Not that difficult to fix, head off new guides regring valves and refit. Wouldn't take me more than a few hours!!

Thanks for info. So i take it it's a job that most people could do with a standard set of tools and a socket set or is it a bit more of a specialised job than that?

How much would it cost to get it done at a garage?

Pop down to your local libary (W.H Smith) and have a flick through the mini mags there, they all have averts for all the mini goodies including reconditioned cylinder heads that have been modded with hardened valve seats and new guides so they can run ok on unleaded.

Best option would be to get an upgraded head as suggested above, often on an exchange basis, do a search on miniclassic for recommended places to buy / have a read through minimag or miniworld.
If you want to do the guides yourself they need driving in, best done by your local machine shop, it'll be a piece of cake for them.
