hehe Mcafee is one of the products listed on the MS SP2 exceptions site. i.e apps that are not compatible with SP2. Either turn off SP2s firewall, or mcafees firewall, and/or install the patches as mentioned before. A combination of these steps will fix your crash

Btw I switched from mcafee to Norton AntiVirus 2K5, this works fine on SP2, without all that messing about.

Thanks for the links Jack. Is it just me, or is it not possible to find the hotfixes?

BTW Several customers have already asked me to wind them back to v7.1!

Wink

I get the problem occasionally, think it's down to activesync (but not sure) although I did hear a mention of this type of package causing problems with v8 enterprise.
I'm going to report it to NAI and see what they come back with.

XP sp2
Outlook XP
Async 3.7.1

Ian..

p.s. don't go back to version 7, 8 is loads better.

It's not activesync, I don't have it, neither do any of my customers. The issue is stability, obviously 8.0i is not stable for some people, so rolling back to 7.1 until we get a proper fix is the best I can offer people.

7.1 is still a great product. I'm sure in time we'll get 8.0i up to scratch on more systems, it's a huge leap forward that was going to cause issues. Next year should be fun when we try to roll the feature set out to the consumer desktops.

Default Update

All my customers are now rolled back to v7.1. My network is the only one still on v8.0i & I'm getting shutdown hangs about once a week. A couple of customers have not renewed their Prime Support over this, so I'm moving them to Panda.

There have been quite a few patches released. It was always going to be difficult switching to the new code base, but it will pay off in the long run. I doubt it will make you feel any better but it was me who pulled the plug on Dr Solomons Antivirus Toolkit, you can imagine how many people were happy about that code change, most are fine now though. Unsuprisingly I've had no problems here with v8.0i

Question NAI 8.0i outgoing email stuck in que

REgarding Enterprise V8.0i. I have had 8.0i installed for a few months or weeks now and everthing seems to work great. Better than earlier version. Now all of a sudden I am having some problems on my NT server with the exchange outgoing email being held in the que. If I disable the Mcafee things appear to work ok. I contacted NAI and they suggested that I reload. I did and everthing seem to work ok and then again it happened yesterday.

I wonder if any of you users have experienced any problem with outgoing email being held in the Que? Thanks for your help. John

Unfortunately I've also rolled this version out to my customers!

System: PIV 3.2gHz, 1gb RAM, Win XP Pro SP2, VS Enterprise v8.0.0, engine 4320, DAT (as at last night) 4389.

Do you have NT + Exchange 5.5 ??

I would try configuring VirusScan to ignore the Exchange MTA queues from it's real-time directory scans.

Are you running GroupShield?

Stefan

P.S. No specific problems running w2k3 + Exch2k3 + GroupShield 6.0 + VirusScan 8.0i

Question NAI 8.0i outgoing email stuck i que.

Hello Nick, just read your note here. I have the 8.0i on my NT server using 4.0 version and Microsoft Exchange. I have a problem with the outgoing email being stuck in the Que. If I disable the Mcafee it seems to work ok. I reinstalled 8.0i about a week ago and it seems to work ok but for some reason it starts to stop numerous emails on the outgoing que. I wonder if you know of anything related to this problem.

Thank you. John

Hi John

First you should disable the email scanner part of 8.0i. Next exclude the following directory from the on access scanner:
\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata

If you use Groupshield, also exclude the Groupshield quarantine directory.

Regards
Nick

45 mins on hold, now a week & still no logon details for the service portal! I can see why my colleagues are suggesting giving up on McAfee & moving to Sophos! When I as IT support need a patch, I need it NOW, not in a month or 2!

Enterprise 8 is an excellent product, but it did bite me on the **** at home

I set it up and forgot about the IRC port blocking that is now built in and could I work out why I couldn't get through the calibra chat room??? What a complete nightmare... it wasn't until I was setting up the config at work on EPO that I came across the settings.

Boy, did I feel stupid!

(oh btw the - has anyone else had problems with local repository updates since they've installed v8 with EPO?)

Sorry Jack, I didn't get a name.

Kieran, haven't you had the hang on shutdown yet? v8.0i was installed manually, not with EPO. The repository locations were ok.

I get the hang on shutdown once in a while... but rarely - I push AV8 out from EPO - it's utterly painless and no one even realises it's been done

Once it is installed tho' the p.c.'s weren't updating.. I think I've fixed that by setting the Agent up to look in the right place and push that out as well...

STILL can't get into the "service" portal! The link sent to us doesn't work, so I've requested a new link - which I hope will work. Meanwhile, Sophos has been contacted for info about their range!

Were you given the support information when you purchased the product? If not, who did you buy it from, I'll try to get things changed. It's crazy that you're chasing a support login when you most need it. Email me at work jack_clark@<you know who>.com support is run from the Aylesbury site, I can knock on doors.

Believe me, sophos sucks. Try using it in a multi domain/workgroup environment I use it here cause I must but lets begin by saying the default settings are crap !

Sorry Jack, I can't figure out your cryptic email address! mcafee.com? nai.com?

The link that NAI sent to me to create the support user account did not work because the last character was on a 2nd line. Pasting the whole thing into a browser didn't work because I had already tried to get in once, so it cancelled the account. A password request got me another email a few hours later & I got that one to work. Why do they make it so difficult? Why not just open a support account for every support customer!?! What instead will happen is a customer will get a problem & then have to go through this c**p for a week or two.

The support kb search is VERY slow & the search engine is hard to use. After a few hours I managed to find the patches for VSE80, but none of them appear to fix my problem (according to the descriptions with each patch). I've therefore created a "Case", so maybe I'll get a response.

I wish I'd started a blog about this!

Dear Sir

Thankyou for logging your case on the website

The problem you are having may be fixed by downloading the Patches for Virusscan 8. These can be found at https://mysupport.nai.com and logging into the site. Please download and install all Virusscan 8 patches.

Kind regards

Ryland Deakin
In other words, they want us to spend a day updating all our computers & they have no idea if it will fix the problem or not! Next, we have to actually FIND the patches on the hardest to navigate & search support site in the world!
