I don’t think that line is a support. If you check the photo you took after the submarine overtakes you on the twisty (LOL) you can see a groove that runs down from one end to the other. I cant see any support from that shot. I initially thought there was a support until I noticed that feature.

I have been searching the web. It apears that all the french ones have been decommisioned with the french goverment attempting to sell them off. One of them seems to be under going through some kind of testing for future development.
Heres the last of the piccys
![](http://www.subnetitalia.it/agostafrancesedraw.jpg)
And one of the insides, haynes manual style!
![](http://perso.wanadoo.fr/sous.marin/agaasm/images/coupeagosta.jpg)
These pictures give a good reason for underestimating its size, the back end drops away and would be submerged.
Anyone else with any info please post!
Cheers
David

Not an Agosta, I'm afraid.
Look on the aft decking - there are distinctive vents on our mystery boat that are absent on the froggy number. Plus the struts below the 'planes as already pointed out.
My recognition guide tells me nothing useful except that it isn't Soviet.
I can say that it would be bloody noisy underwater, though. My bet is one of the German coastal patrol boats, meant for operating close in where the environment is noisy anyway so she'll not be so easy to track...
OK, having dug a bit more I can suggest a Danish built Delfinen class - 54m long and rather elderly. In fact, older than me, the last ones being launched in Jan '63.

If its not Agosta then its something close. So probably french. I start looking at french designs to see if I can find anything else.
Anyone else help us with this one?

Wonder if anyone could ID this sub I saw after I'd been to the opera :

Not sure if it's standard Australian Naval issue, but the markings are quite distinctive.

I must admit they are quite freaky when seen from the water!
When I worked in Sardinia we used to hire ribs to go and check out the surrounding islands, whilst we were out one day we saw a conning tower out of the water, there is a big US navy base on an island called La Madalena so must have come from there, just out of interest when they surface how do they know you are not buzzing about at 40knots accross the top of them?

Apart from looking quite different I doubt a Trafalgar could even get up the Kiel Canal without beaching itself as its bang on the maximum draught!
![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
the fact it also has no markings fits in with an older sub not in active service, its a shame in a way that we can't narrow it down the specific one of the four!
