Interesting thread!!

given that all garages seem to want your business, or is the yellow pages telling

porkys... i find it surprising the approach that some of the garage owners take..

both of our cars have mot,s at a local garage, invariably any work needed is carried out by them... oil changes i have carried out else where for other reasons / cost and service.

other than that i dont go back to the mot garage for 12 months... unless we need a punture repaired etc.

why ... i dont need to .. simple

You would have thought that a garage would want to encourage new business to maintain its client base..

it may well be that this client selectiveness is part of the reason that a high percentage of smaller garages fail..

another is that they keep a select client base, and due to rising costs and no new business, they then pass the increasing costs onto there regulars..

it dosnt take long to loose people..

If you dont like their service, dont go back.

But dont whine about it, so what, who cares.

Whatever....

They have hundreds of satisfied customers, they are not ar5sed if one or two are not happy, especially if they cry on a Subaru Public BBS.

If I ever want my Classic V4 servicing, I know where to go.

Vinesh, your quite normal from what I can gather, so why start the mud slinging ?

LOL at this thread.

Surely the easiest and most commercial position to adopt would be:-

Punter - I'd like to book my car in for an MOT
TSL - no problem sir. Is is decatted?
Punter - yes
TSL - (having checked database and established this individual has not spent £'000 over the years and thus qualifies for a freebie) OK sir. I'm afraid that will requre us to fit a centre section for the duration of the test. This, and the travel to and form the MOT station we use will, of course, require an hourly charge to be made. Experience suggests about 3 hours of time @ whatever per hour over and above the MOT cost itself. The total will be £XXXX

The punter then knows exactly what is involved and how much it will cost. He has recieved a professional and courteous reply. His expectations have been well managed. He either pays the charge providing TSL with an acceptable profit margin on the time spent or he goes elsewhere if he considers it too expensive.

However, he appreciates the full disclosure of what is involved and why he has to be charged. He may well use TSL again, he may not, but no one is out of pocket and the whole thing makes sound commercial sense.

Is it just me, or is that just too obvious

good grief

That, Diablo, would be far too easy and would make for too much sense for this place/these cars etc etc

now all we need is for you to take up a magistrates role in my local court and we could start to get somewhere

i know that dyney but the next time a dealership starts to get slated i expect to see a post from a mod asking for a fair hearing the same as what tsl got. i expect to be waiting a long time as i dont think it has happened yet.
i'm not having a go about the moderation but a little more fairness would make this site a lot better.

I am going to stop this now before it continues any further, both parties have had their say in this matter.

Any problems with this then PM me.
