Dis-appointed with TSL

As you obviously don't feel we are good enough to maintain your Subaru throughout the year, I find your disappointment at failing to book your car in somewhat surprising. Perhaps the garage that does your servicing may be able to help?
Any MOT station will be delighted to take your booking. Please bear in mind that sensibly, they may want to charge you to remove and refit your decat pipe which may increase the cost somewhat.
Just to clarify, We are not an MOT station. In addition to the free exhaust labour you won last time it also takes two technicians and a spare car to down tools and run your car to the station and collect it, losing nearly an additional man hour for the whole operation.
Polite note to all.. MOT'ing is only a service we offer to existing or potential service customers. Vinesh, after 12 months I guess you prove to be neither.

If things were clarified 12 months ago then all this could have been avoided, as no one informed me that the 3 hour labour was free.
Anyway when I had my MOT done I didn't see my car in the workshop for the removal and fitting of the downpipe 12 months ago????
It's pointless going on about this, cos you will just come out with smart comments to get your yourself out of this situation.

PS
There are many companies out there who can offer your staff professional training on how to deal with customers over the phone. Just advice and don't take it personally.
Matter closed.

Smart comments to get your yourself out of this situation?? I think Trousers made some valid points and as already stated, there not an mot centre. Whats bugging you more, there refusal to book you in, or the fact you've now got to find a decat friendly mot centre?

Above is not a issue. As stated before the matter now closed.

Vinesh,
My local MOT station simply bung an OE centre section on the end of the tailpipe and stick the probe in the other end. No need to go spending money & time fitting/removing a centre when it's only on the car a few minutes.
They wrap the tail in an old cloth so it doesn't get scratched.

Ive used TSL before and they are a good operation.
3 hours to do swap over a cat and back? seems to be a long time. Surely only a centre section is needed, and this cant take more than 20 mins tops.

I have a decatted Sti 4 and my Mot station never change the exhaust and its never failed all they ask is if it has a cat and aslong as you reply with I would assume so then no probs even the lad at the station owns japs and ahs decatted his motor (Hehehe) I have ahd many a contact with TSL and never bought anything altho I find them polite and really helpful with the free advice. I think Trouser makes a really good point about common sense and Business sense. I also noticed that Vinesh didnt thank TSL for that Three hours of free labour for the first MOT (LOL)
Paul if you wanna give me three hours of free labour I will sing your praises to everyone I see. And bother you with silly questions on the phone all day.
Reckon you can fit a FMIC to a classic in Three hours. I will even crank the lift and make the tea for the tea break for you mate. (LOL)

If he is so proud of the free labour, why didn't he tell me at the time? Surely if he mentioned this back then, then it would have entice me to come back??
When I had the MOT done last year, I was there for 1.5 to 2 hour max. This included -
0.5 hour to check the car
Take the car to the MOT station
Change the downpipe and refit (Almost forgot to mention this)
They must work pretty fast to carry out all the above in 2 hours. Speedy workers.
How long does it take to change the downpipe???

To be honest, if it was my workshop I'd be looking to remove and re-fit centre sections not downpipes. Centre can be off and back on in 20 mins - and that's a clueless muppet like me doing it.
The long waiting times are usually mechanics working on different jobs at the same time in my experience.

It's a shame you can't read as well as you can whinge.
In my first post
"Our MOT station kindly keeps both a classic and new age cat section there for fitment should the car need one to pass emmisions check".
All cars with decat go down to MOT as such. The MOT station will fit the appropriate section if required.
Funnily enough I did not see you down at the MOT station whilst your car was being worked on which perhaps explains why you were unable to see you car being worked upon.
Workshop maths for beginners.. 2 guys can generally do a three hour job in an hour and a half. Especially when they do it often.
Unless of course you are implying that a registered MOT station saw fit to pass an illegal car??...
Perhaps you could clarify if that is your point.

Hi,
As an independent garage owner I thought I would put my t/pence in.
We are in a similar position as TSL as far as that we do not operate our own MOT station and use one just down the road.
With a fully booked workshop all the time, we are in the position that some work can not be taken on. Unfortunately, this means that some customers are turned away.
Bussiness and common sense dictates that incidental (f.i. just come to us for mot or only get us to do the work that their normal garage can not do))customers and customers with cars that we do not like working on are the first to be disappointed.
And to be blunt, I decide what cars we work on, no one else. And I prefer to take in cars I like, belonging to people I get on with. This way I can work with the customer and their car to get the best possible results. This means that customers are happy, we are allowed to make a small profit and more importantly to me, our workshop employees stay dedicated, motivated, loyal and paid. Not many good technicians to be found you see, like to keep them with me.
regards,
Job

if you aint bothered then why keep posting on it? I have only ever had one problem with TSL where someone on the end of the phone was rather rude to me when i cancelled an order (which hadnt even been delivered into them) I then recieved an email apologising for the ruseness and would quite happily use them for parts again. However i have not taken my car to be mot'd or serviced etc there as i can do 98% of the work myself or my partner can do it for me (I have an MY93 GL)
as they have already stated if you only take your car there for MOT and nothing else then why bothere booking you in? it makes good sense to keep the regulars pleased who bring in £100's than to just book yours in every year and then you have the work completed elsewhere. If your that bothered then Jack the car up and get under it yourself and change the bloody pipes! Thats what i will do when my MOT is up for renewal! and yes it really is that simple!

A downpipe thats been off recently is quite a quick procedure to change its when they haven`t been done before they become nightmares.

does that meen when you have a car in your workshops, if you have more than one person dealing with a car, you then charge for double the hours labour it actually took?

You think all that is bad, youve no idea.
My trauma through TSL is still ongoing, and is in the hands of my solicitor.
My mental health has has been effected by my purchase from them.
Not once did they warn me that I ' WILL ' be laughed at by other road users.
They failed to mention that after fitting my purchase I would be the laughing stock for all on SN.
No warning on the box, no nothing.........
Those spoiler lifters will be the death of me......
PS. Trouser, good luck in your new venture, bet you cant wait.

how were you to know this, telepathy, if anyone gives someone free labour or any perk they make sure you know about it at the time, then maybe you would have been back sooner but to say that now is just back heeling your question.

Vinesh,
I agree 100% with TSL. I too run a business and when I do a job I often do things above and beyond what I had quoted for, for no extra cost. I find that 99.9% of the time those customers come back to me time and again. However, I also have people ringing me for quotes who I last did work for 18- 24 months ago and as they are not regulars, and I want and need, to keep regular customers happy, I turn them away.
What can possibly be wrong with that? I for one would not entertain a 'customer' like you.

didn't read that thread to be honest so don't know. all i'm saying is this forum seems to be very biased. if a dealer starts to get slated then maybe the mods should consider applying the same rules to that thread as they are to this one.
