I eventually managed to get some information out of AWD Motorsport, their email replies were virtually one word answers!
Their spoilers are £125 (including VAT, but not P&P). They did originally say 'Sorry we can't do group buys as we only stock one at a time.' until I suggested if we ordered 7 of them they could possibly buy 7 in themselves to order!
They are made from fibreglass and are 'stuck on and fixed into place' so I am assuming from this they are bolted at the fixing points underneath the spoiler and glued along the top roof edge.
They do not do a waist spoiler.

I have sent emails to ETS Racing and had no reply and have rung them also. Three times the phone could not connect and the time it got through it just rang and rang.
I assume these will be the same as the above, made from fibreglass and bolted at the fixing points underneath the spoiler and glued along the top roof edge. Again, they do not appear to do a waist spoiler.

Simon from STi Racing has emailed me tonight telling me that he can get hold of a limited number of GENUINE STi SPOILERS, prices as follows:

Roof spoiler: £379
Waist Spoiler: £375

As Simon says, it's expensive but at least it's there for people who want it. Prices include postage and packing to the UK.

I think we need to have a vote as to what we should do. Choices are:

a) Buy the replica spoilers from STi for between £215 - £248 (for a pair, depending on numbers), bolting the roof spoiler at the fixing points underneath the spoiler and glueing along the top roof edge. The waist spoiler would have to be glued on, though I was wondering if BIG rivets or some sort of locating peg (to hold it in place while the glue sets at least) and glue could be used?

b) Buy the genuine articles for £754 for the pair, and use original fixing points. Bear in mind however that if they are easy to put on they will also be easy to remove...

c) Forget it and keep with the standard items!

Please cast your votes:

1) Speedydaveb - option a) roof spoiler and waist spoiler
2) CeeDee -
3) harvsta74 -
4) VTSuby1 (from Subaru-Impreza.org) -
5) scoobyster -
6) TelBoy - waist spoiler -
7) lordharding -
8) Benno -
9) Vulnax999 -
10) Little Idiot -

thanks

For my sins, i'll go for the genuine articles.

There's an STi wagon for sale just round the corner from me at the moment, so i stopped to have a look last night. Those spoilers really do set it off nicely, and i don't want to mess about with stick-on items.

If there are enough of us who want them, do you think there is any possibility of the combined price for the pair coming down at all?

havnt bothered to read the whole thread but if you are worried bout gluing on spolers dont be - we fit them at our place often, with just glue. Provided they are held on with mask tape for 24 hrs after that they dont budge atall. My MD has two on his M class which have been on ages. Personally i think its better cos they are easy to line up with glue.
Tempted to get one for mine now! better get the car back first though

You've got to do it, it makes the wagon look like the proper sports car it is rather than a family estate!
Should see you at the 'Seighford drag strip' if it goes ahead!
Does Oli log onto his PM here or not? I PM'd him about a week ago and no response so far.

The problem is that the position of the spoiler holes in each car will vary slightly. With the original items the bolts are not held captive, they are fitted in a runner so that they can move slightly if required (in a similar manner to the way the side skirts are held on).
With fibreglass you cannot make as complex shapes so that the bolts would have to be fixed permanently in position. In doing so you could find that they might not alight with the holes in your car and you would have to elongate the holes in your boot to suit. Because of this the suppliers do not fit bolts to the waist spoiler.

Since the underneath of the roof spoiler has two captive nuts in the brackets to use, if the holes are out slightly you just have to elongate the hole in the spoiler to suit, a much easier task.

but you could still do a "floating bolt system" in the waist spoiler's when it's being made so you'll have some movement in the fixing's to fit the hole's that vary slightly

The fibreglass would have to be very strong around the bolt heads to stop them turning when you fasten them using the nuts.
Do you work with fibreglass or are you just guessing at this?

Updated list:
1) Speedydaveb - option a) roof spoiler and waist spoiler
2) CeeDee -
3) harvsta74 - a) or b)
4) VTSuby1 (from Subaru-Impreza.org) -
5) scoobyster - (roof only) - Option (c) - pulling out sorry
6) TelBoy - option b) waist spoiler and possibly roof spoiler
7) lordharding -
8) Benno - c) possibly pulling out
9) Vulnax999 -
10) Little Idiot -

the bolt wouldn't be stuck to the fibreglass as in the name "floating bolt" but something i've used in the past building off-road 4x4's and kit car's when i need to,the bolt is held sercure in the inside of spoiler but will move as you say for slight adjustment's then tighten as normal.

Well, i'm off the group buy, but for the right reasons!! Swapping my WRX set for an STi set this evening. It's the car i mentioned on the previous page. The bloke selling it believes that smaller spoilers will actually *help* him sell it as it will look less boy-racerish, and i walk away with a set of genuine STi wagon spoilers in exactly the right colour!! Everybody's happy!! Although it's costing me £500 for the privilege. I must be MAD!!

Sounds interesting, is this something you have bought or had made? If you have a sketch or photos of this please can you send them to me and I will forward them on to Simon to pass on to the manufacturer.

Each to their own, I prefer the STi spoilers myself.
Does your car ever stay the same from one week to the next!!??
I like the bodykit - is it a C West one?

I don't know of anyone who has fitted the waist spoiler, I'm still very keen on getting these from STi Racing.

This group buy is still running, it is just taking some people a long time to decide what they want to do!

hi I replied to your pm earlier, firstly its not me selling them, I e-mailed the geezer selling them earlier, and said they are direct copies of the original item therefore the fixing is the same!

hes interested in the gb, the price i put there is an estimate and to be honest its likely to be substanially lower than that!!!!!

but then again you are still going ahead with your gb, so no point

I've had my spoilers on all weekend, and have spent approximately 99% of available daylight hours looking at them, stroking them and polishing them!!

My advice - just DO it. The difference is startling, although in my opinion the bigger waist spoiler makes *at least* as much difference as the top spoiler.

Does anybody actually know if the STi spoilers are aerodynamically any more effective than the smaller ones, or is this 100% tart?

Hi mate, yes, it all went very smoothly - thanks for your help, sorry if i sounded slightly drunk - i was!!

In case you're asked again, the trick is knowing that you have to remove the rear windscreen wiper, so that you can remove the motor after undoing the three retaining bolts. After that it's a breeze!

They were expensive, but SO worth it.

Just for everyone's information, I am only aware of three people that have been able to source second hand STi / WR spoilers since I've owned a Scoob.

1) Me
2) Jasemac
3) TelBoy

I'm sure there have been others, but I'm not aware of any, so bear in mind you might be in for a wee wait if you're holding off for a genuine set.

From the very first post:

Prices are as follows:
1. 1-5 pcs: £120 (roof spoiler) / £128 (waist spoiler)
2. 6-10pcs: £113 (roof spoiler) / £120 (waist spoiler)
3. 11pcs and over: £105 (roof spoiler) / £110 (waist spoiler)

Don't get buying any off your own bat please, I for one definately want a waist spoiler from STi Racing as they are the only company I have found for that do them and I can't justify spending £375 on the genuine article.

A decision then - at the end of the month we will finalise who wants what and order them, ok?
