what the Porsche like to drive after the scoob??
It's better in the dry, I just can't unsettle it, the amount of grip has to be experienced to be believed! It go's wherever you point it.
I'm surprised how good it is in the wet, I haven't pushed it too hard in the wet yet, but what little stick I did give it didn't unstick the rear at all. I was of the train of thought that said 'big power, rear wheel drive, head for the nearest bush when wet' But it hasn't been like that so far.
I'm sure it won't have the scoobs level of grip in the wet though, it simply can't.

Brakes are in a different world to the scoob's (the one thing I hated about the scoob) and the steering feel is superb (another thing I felt let the scoob down). Doesn't have the mid range punch of the Type R though. (this will be sorted by West Tuning very soon)

Mine does have the sports pack which gives it 10mm lower suspension. This makes it very different to a standard 996.

It is very different to the scoob (going on a Type R here, which is the only scoob I've owned). It's less raw and frantic. It pulls much stronger at low revs, then not as strongly at the 3-5k revs but stronger at 5-7k revs. Doesn't FEEL as quick at first as the power delivery is soooo smooth, but when you look at the speedo, your at silly speeds very quickly! It never stops pulling.
I do miss the kick in the back from the scoob, but the Porsche makes up for it in many other ways. The one thing that does surprise me is, the scoob felt more settled at higher speeds (130+)

From a standing start to 60, the Type R would pull ahead, at 100 I'd say the 996 would be slightly ahead (0-100 in 11 secs according to GT mag) It's the in gear times where I think the Porsche has the edge, drop it down into 2nd at 40mph and it really takes off, not sure the Type R would quite keep with it. drop it into 4th at 90 and it's brutal, this is when I think it would pull strongly away from a scoob.

Having said all this, a 300bhp Type R would give a 996 a good run for it's money at anything but higher speeds. They are quite evenly matched. Anything less than a 300bhp scoob can forget it.

I would advise anyone who's into scoobs to own a Type R just once, for me it is the ulimate classic scoob, I loved every minute of it and do miss it at times.

Nice car mate.

The only problem with porkers - especially 911s is running costs.

I have a 993 turbo - had a evo 7 before that. The insurnace on the porker is half what the evo was surprisingly. But I had a annual service about 6 months ago - needed 4 new tyres, new brake discs and pads and routine other stuff - bill came to over 3 grand, yes 3 grand.Didnt really anticipate that.

But its well worth it,but do get a lot of "abuse" in the car - eg people flicking the bird etc - and am always tailgated on the motorway - usually by a 318i or similar car, does get tiring.

I've been expecting abuse since I got the car. It's early days yet, but I haven't had any negative responses yet. Never let out at junctions though. It's surprising how many small minded ***** are out there.

I don't get jealous and upset at Fezza and Lambo drivers just because they drive better/more expensive car than me. I twist my neck to admire an awesome car.

It may just be me, but it really seems to take the jam out the doughnuts of Boxster drivers when they see the car. As the salesman at Porsche said to me; "everyone who comes in here wants a 911, but some leave with a Boxster" (and the ones with more money than taste leave with a Cayenne)

I'm surprised how much attention the car gets, I know it's a Porsche, but I didn't expect the car to get as many neck twisting stares as it does.
And I have to say, it snaps knicker elastic from a 1/4 mile

Boxster drivers are usually ok - but a lot of them are driven by ex Audi TT drivers or people of a similar kind.Have to show them now and again what a real porsche can do.

Default Another Type R to Porker here........

Havent been on the forum for the past 5 months as I too sold my beloved Version 5 Type R and replaced it with a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.Although
it was a sad sad day, I have to say I havent stopped smiling since the porker arrived.

I mirror all of what gypsy has stated when making a comparison
I do indeed miss the scoob as in its modded state of tune (320bhp/320lbft)it was an absolute beast. On the road it was as quick to 100mph as my best mates 620bhp R33 Skyline , although it quickly dropped away after that as the GTr powered on to over 200mph!.

The porker certainly doesnt feel as quick initially to 100 (My Type R recorded 12.9 at the pod, where as the stock figures for my 3.4 Carrera is 13.2) although the porker feels fast in a very different way.
Its very solid and seems to come into its own around 80mph where it then is rock solid through and over 150mph. The top speed is stated at 174mph.
It still keeps suprising me that when I am accelerating hard through the gears
you seem to look at the speedo reading 120+ etc and realise you still have 2+ gears to go!!!!!!! The Type R was immense on acceleration however at 120 I was screaming towards the higher end of top gear.

I recently had a bit of a play with a new FQ320 in the wet (remembering my Carrera is only 2WD) and it seemed like there was nothing really in it and once we were up to around 100mph the porker was into its prime area as if it was just warming up.
Make no mistakes the Porker doesnt have real "supercar" performance but it is a real allrounder.
The main attraction is its ability to tackle "everything and anything" by this I mean that it is comfortable in city traffic, on the motorway on the backroads.........to be honest anywhere , it really is a true GT car.
Whilst I loved the smile factor the Type Rs raw performance gave me, I am now a very very happy porker owner.
We recently did a 2000 mile trip up and around the highlands and then straight onto a 10/10s hard out track day. The Porker handled both with ease and no drama.

If someone can host some piccies I will send them across. It was used recently for a 911 (996) Buyers Guide that will be out in next weeks "911 & Porsche World Magazine".

One things for sure though although I have no regrets it still doesnt have that truly inspiring FLAT4 Burble............................

Just to add to the servicing issue........At the moment its just as reasonable as my Audi A4 diesel!

I just had the 36mth service done at Silverston OPC and it was only £288+VAT!.
New set of N4 rated Pirelli PZero Rossos fitted was only £540. (2x265/35/18 & 2x 235/40/18)

Certainly no more expensive that the scoob................The insurance was only an extra £100 also.

Remember the Top Gear where Jason Plato in a 996 (C2?) beat Niall MacKenzie on an R1 round the track
