mother has baby...sticks it in car and sticks sticker on car.

Scoob driver has Prodrive exhaust....sticks it on car and sticks sticker on car.

The difference is only one group is sad enough to fill the back shelf with toys.................and it aint mummy driving round with a nodding scooby doo is it!

No stickers, no toys - not on my car anyway.

I do sometimes have a nodding dog in the back, but he's real

The reason for these stickers came about due to some accidents in the states, where the emergency services pulled people from vehicles, and missed the child / baby who had ended up on the floor / out of sight.

Mart

ps i have one in my car ...

Anyone on here work for the ambulance or fire service care to throw any light on this?

If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an accident with your baby in the car - surely the presence of a baby seat would be enough of a clue to your average fireman / policeman etc that there might be a baby in the car? What happens at night - do these signs glow in the dark?

I'm still struggling with this concept to be honest. Sounds more likely a clever marketing line which is playing on a parent's natural concern and protection for their child. If it is that much of a benefit why isn't it compulsory to display these stickers when you are driving with children?

It is an interesting subject to me.

Up until now, I am a married man with no kids. In the Scoob, I'd overtake if I could.

My wife is now 6 months pregnant expecting our first child.

In my position now, I would display 'a baby on board' notice to let all other drivers know that I might be driving a bit slower e.g. taking a corner as not to break my childs neck or possibly in the event of an accident that I might need extra help. just remember the saying 'women and children first', a 6 month old bay isn't going to be able to open a car door or indeed anyone with a piece of humanity would agree that no baby/helpless child needs should not suffer because some tw@t decides they can overtake 6 cars in one go!!!

Yes, when you have a baby you will feel elated but please do not presume that these 'child on board' stickers are anything else than alerting other drivers of a possible hazard.

I know some people drive in a manner which lends themselves more likely to an accident, the 'child on board sicker' is a kind hint that they do this somewhere else other than around me.

Good point about RTAs but I asked a friend who'd recently had a young 'un why she had a 'B-O-B' sticker in her motor. Answer was nothing to do with her ability to procreate or even the RTA angle. She told me one reason was to let other shoppers know that a bit more room might be needed; swinging doors, etc.

How do I react when seeing a motor with a 'B-O-B' sticker? TBH not much different to any other potential eejit on the road. Treat everyone else as totally incompetent behind the wheel. 99 and a bit % you'll be wrong and all's well but at least you're prepared for the occasional ******.

Good point, though, about rear view mirrors pointing at the kids not what's going on behind. Perhaps the best place for kiddy carriers is behind me

If it is that much of a benefit why isn't it compulsory to display these stickers when you are driving with children?
And, conversely, can anyone think of a reason why it shouldn't be illegal to display one at any time when there isn't actually a baby in the car?

As Tiggs says, its only to swank about the baby to everyone else. Surprising how many of them you see screaming along faster than anyone else too!

Question

Quote: "In a situation where there are multiple vehicles involved the car with the baby on board sticker would get checked first"

So I now need to get myself one of these stickers to ensure I'm not given inferior treatment over someone else, who may or may not have a baby on board?

Well i'm sorry, but i saw no hint of Tiggs suggesting that this is an ostentatious act that you're alluding to in his post. Did i miss something?

Doesn't say much for the standards of US paramedics really does it?

I hope the paramedics would follow normal triage procedures and access the injuries of all those involved and treat those most at risk first regardless of sex and age.

If you couldn't get out of the car you would be seen as you would be above the window line so easily visible
Assuming the roof was crushed down on top of you obscuring you from view, why should the child always dissapear from view and never the adult??

Or are you another fine example of this countrys citizens who think me me me first and sod everyone else?
I think it is the ones with the BOB stickers that have that attitude. "I have a baby, I am more important, and well if the baby isn't in the car, at least I got priority treatment and wasted paramedic time, not to worry if some more urgent case has died in the meantime".

If I saw a 4x4 with a small dent and a baby on board sign and another car on its roof all caved in I know which one I'd be heading for first, and it would be the one with the baby sign.

Have to admit I do value my life and the lives of my loved ones above all others. I think if people are being honest they probably do as well.

I'm sure the people with children probably think it's more important for them to survive so they can look after the child and sod everyone else.

We've got one in the Scoob
Little dangling toy rabbit that has "baby on board" written across it. We were bought it as a pressie when Alexander was born. We emphatically haven't bought one ourselves, and my wife's car is missing one still

What's the point? Well, it's not because I want people to slow down around me - do whatever you want. It does explain why I'll not cane it away from every set of lights like I normally would do, and may be letting down the Scooby side "in the twisties" (tm)

Although, to be honest, now he's in a forward facing seat I can give it accelerative welly, but try to be steadier on the brakes. The lateral support is pretty good too (and that's not a plug for Mark Aigin)

So, next time a silver wagon comes flying past and you think "tosser - why's he braking for the corners so early and gently", look for the little rabbit

I used to have one but I've lost it.

Why are some people getting so hyped about baby on board stickers - get a life!

For me the stickers are to tell the burberry cap, chav Saxo driver behind me that if he continues to drive an inch from my bumper in an attempt to race an Impreza while I have my 2 year old daughter in the car he's quite likely to get a punch in the face for his trouble.

Also, when I see one of those signs I'm big enough to admit that it does change my driving style. If I'm pressing on and overtaking, if I see one of those signs or if I can see a baby seat I'll hang back so as not to crowed the person in front and I'll overtake when I'm 110% sure it safe to do so.

It really annoys me people thinking these signs are an insult to their driving ability. By the same rationale' "L" plates are useless too are they not? just becuase the person in front is learning what difference does it make to the person who thinks their driving is too good for warning signs such as "L" and "Baby on Board".

Its never crossed my mind that the sign should be for emergency services to go to the car with the sign before but I suppose its a good idea - why get so bunched about it?

Amazing how blinkered the people on this board appear to be. Who cares if someone has a sticker on their car. Personally I'd be more concerned about the fuel economy and ommissions of 2L turbo's when a nice little smart car is enough to get you to work , maybe the BOB brigade should start petitioning for roadside emission check's for cars and crushing those that exceed them due to tinkering mod's or fuel additives ......its a small planet FFS we need to get on with those around us.

As an expectant father, these are also exactly my sentiments. If I see one of these stickers in the UK I know that the driver might not want to 'make progress'. Don't have a sticker on our cars, as an English-language sticker wouldn't be of much use in a foreign country

As an aside, for all those with the huge bolt-on spoilers I would suggest to get an equivalent sticker that says something like "chav on board" . This would be helpful to the rest of us as we could then avoid you and your anti-social road manners .

Such spoliers are obvious a mile away and negate the need for any such sign
