Exactly - the whole emergency services arguement for these stickers is daft.

Guys, it's like this.

When a woman has a baby, she often wants all the paraphanalia to go with it.

These signs, in my opinion, are a woman's way of displaying her pride in her newborn, along with a desire to give it some additional "protection", by making other drivers aware that there's a kid on board, and hopefully more cautious when seeing it. It's an instinctive desire to protect her kid(s).

The fact that these signs rub blokes up the wrong way is lost on most women, and in the majority of cases, they wouldn't care even if they did know. It's a woman thing.

On that basis I can understand they will be life saving.
Chances are the accident was caused in the first place by sombody tailgating to try and read what the stupid sign said.

I've seen a few 'Mother to be' stickers lately, guess they're further evidence of the 'Tel-theory(tm)'

Lightbulb

What about "baby boy on board" in blue and "baby girl on board" in pink signs?

At least this would eliminate *one* of the questions...

I had a bit of road rage with a 'baby on board' driver once. She cut me up and then pointed to her baby when I flashed and beeped her.

Baby on board sticker= Idiot on board, avoid at all costs.
These things are totally ****ing ridiculous, I thought that before I had a child and I still think it now I have one, in fact I think they are enormously selfish, its like 'Ive got a child so EVERYONE else on the road must be careful around ME' total utter bollocks!

Breaking News: Due to the SN newsgroup, David Blunkett has issued a statement saying he is contemplating new legislation to arrest 'Baby on Board' drivers.

Exclamation

I wonder if anyone's actually ever described them to Mr Blunkett?

I *still* maintain that women DO NOT have selfish intentions when displaying these signs. That's a BLOKE reaction.

Where this would be important would be where there was risk of iminent fire/explosion and the vehicles needed emptying quickly. Yes all vehicles would be checked, but ultimately the vehicles with babies and children would want to be emptied first due to them being incapable of getting out themselves. Trapped adults would be easily seen due to them being above the window line, children/babies would be below the window line and not easily seen.
As we have said, that great if people only display the signs IF the child is on board. What could happen in your scenario is that the emergency services see the sign and start looking for a non existent child. As they can't (and wont be able to) find it they start looking harder, around the car in case it has been thrown clear etc etc all wasting time that could be used to save somebody that is there.

If you want the sign fine, but if you display one, the Police should be able to stop you at random and fine you if the child is not on board.
