Thumbs up

the rk skyline (starky and hutch colours) won the whole event although he was racing rocket ronnie in the final, ronnies start was not v good compared to the rk car, you sort of felt that if the cars had the same start, ronnies would have won but thats drag racing for you. I do not know what happened to the imprezas in the 10 sec times as these cars were not in the final and if they were racing at that time on the final they could have won as the the top two final skyline times were in the top 10 sec categories, although due to the heat aswell i guess. The only downsides I suppose was there not many stalls to buy from ( we all like a good spend at these doos) and the lack of information on who was winning etc. There was a big tv board up but no one could read it, Hence I have just found out that a few scoobys were in the 10's, nice one lads. Had a good chat with steve darley about his car, 11 secs soon mate, i hope, but overall we had a great day and all for £20 plus a bit petrol and food. Can not wait for next year.

Wierdest result of the day? David W's first run. 13-something seconds, with a terminal speed of 57mph after a map sensor hose blew off and I think the ECU went into limp-home mode

think it was in the 14s actually but still shows you just how fast he must have been going before hand to cross the line at 57 and still be mid 14s!

As a team we really held together. As andy said, it was no one person out for themselves, just the 22b.com team thriving. I hope we can do the same next year with more people trying out for the team. The spirit on the day was excellent with everyone pleased to see everyone else doing so well.

And what an improvement. year on year we must surely have stepped up more than any other team.

I would have to say though we were beaten by some evos, we were the stronger team, despite lots of talk!

as enthusiasts we can be very proud.

Great result for Andy and the rest of the team did well too, as Adma said we've come on leaps and bounds...

Highlights:
Pre-event meal and drinkies
Everyone getting on with each other
Watching Wallis change header tank at 2am whilst sh1tfaced

Low points:
Wallis deciding mapping was more important the going clubbing in Doncaster
Getting up at 7am still drunk
The litter
General facilities for the numbers that were there - someone needs to think less about profit and more about VFM - better catering/Loos/think about seating or grandstands especially for the infield.

Still a cracking day out - well done to TOTB Team Subaru

Big thanks to Trout for all the work organising/selecting the 22b team, nice one mate.
It was good to meet many old names but new (to me) faces ! Adam And Moray in particular, good to finally meet you guys

Shortly after 10am when I heard my 'warm up' run time was 10.98 I could have just gone home then a very happy man

No way I expected to be in the tens straight off, I did have a cunning plan to save some weight by removing the seats and give it a jag of NOS if I was getting close to the 10's but due to lack of time it was totally untried and I had no map for it, so it wasn't worth the risk (but it's next on the list !)

When Barbara told me at 2pm that I was currently second overall in the handling and only 0.1 seconds behind the fastest EVO, I couldn't believe it
The EVO's had been dedicating their time to the handling circuit all morning and I had only had 3 runs, as it transformed a further 2 evos got their act together and pulled ahead, which is where they stayed to the end.
On my final run I knocked off a further 0.5 seconds but it was too late, with only 0.4 seconds separating the top 4 at end of play.

I think we had an excellent team spirt within team 22b with everyone involved keen to see ANY Subaru do well, it felt like we really had a 'team' as opposed to individual goals.

Thanks all

A&B

122mph I believe, all my runs were 120-124mph regardless of which lane.

great how there is very little mention of evos on here, domination shall i say? 1,2,3 in handling and about 5 or 6 in top 10. Also rc car did not even run due to dropped valve. However achieved the fastest quarter of the day, beating rocket ron. Credit where credit is due boys.

Which was your car Andy? must have been the blue sti? looked very fast, also the icelandic ( i think) that br was hanging around looked very fast

Good to see that Andy's great achievement in the handling shootout has been mentioned - and also a bit of a teller that it was dominated by Evos and Scoobs (in that order) - typically 4 to 5 seconds faster than the FWD/RWD (or 10% of the lap time!!!)

Also to Andy's credit is that of the four cars that ran in the handling shootout, his was the only one that could have driven home with four adults - as the three Evo's all had stripped out interiors and two of them had roll cages.

The drag runs are exciting but for me, and maybe many others, the handling circuit was what I was really interested in - in this respect TOTB was crap for spectators. It would have need just ten minutes of thought to set up more spectating points around the lap - as it was viewing on the edge handling at 300m distance does not really cut it.

Once again well done to Andy and all the Scoobs - I even head a Chaver (Vauxhall boy) say that there were some pretty quick Scoob's - how about that for utlimate praise.

i'll post the results in a sec, would also like to post a copy of my mail to a couple of forums today. many thanks btw to all of you in 22b.com team!
cheers
chris m

Just got back from Elvington, many valid points have been raised so far about Redline TOTB3, and we will be addressing a lot of them through the year. many many thanks to all who attended, and to the many people who have emailed or phoned etc afterward, much appreciated. Many thanks to all the team reps who attended and helped, sorry if i didn’t get to chat for long!

couple of main points to go over as raised so far and very valid-

toilets- obviously not enough yesterday on site, although we did have twice as many as last time, but fairly well scattered. A big issue for cleaning and availability of toilets for next year for certain and one that will be sorted properly.

Timing displays- we had invested in the large screen displays and also the instantaneous displays for the handling and drag, maybe not as successful as we hoped for on the day, as the viewing angle seemed to be tight on them. We have already had a meeting today and will be making site-wide instantaneous displays and leaderboards another priority for totb4. We do hire in the timing and marhsalling/p.a and will be looking to expand this further to sort the situation. This would include displays in all areas and p.a.
Some of the people who didn’t get timeslips for certain runs will find their runs were recorded, in the full results, which I will be emailing to all club reps and posting on the net shortly. That issue is one that will be resolved with improved site wide comms.

With regard to the handling course being far off from the viewing area, there is a balancing act of safety and viewing pleasure, which has to be kept in mind. We will look to bring the course closer where possible and safe to do so.

In addition various other points have been raised already and I’m happy to liase with the team reps again to go over any points etc from competitors and spectators. From speaking to all the team reps yesterday on site I wasn’t informed directly about any major problems for any club in particular, but obviously we will take comments on board etc.

Overall we exceeded our expectations on the day on the expected crowd and i think managed reasonably well from the general feedback so far, including queuing: the roads outside were backed up at one stage for a couple of miles, but the gate staff did a good job of bringing cars in, the local traffic police are fine with how it was managed.
many thanks

TOTB

chris,

can you work out a points system please so that the overall team can be compared? and also a jack of all trades car should take honours for consistency in all events.

The reason I suggest this is that with all the cars being entered by tuners, it is unlikely that a team made up from privateers is going to make any headway. Despite this fact, a siginficant number of subarus made it into the top 10 (of the quarter mile at least).

Yet the team as a whole gets no recognition because we didn't win any one single event.

Surely a consistency prize for the team is a possibility? based on a points system such as in formula 1? ie. 10 points for first, 9 for second, 8 for third etc, available for each discipline.

Then a prize for the winning team with the greatest total number of points.

if you do this kind of thing already, please ignore me, I haven't seen it explained anywhere.

I am led to believe the reason why Sumo power guys and GT-art did not attend was due to a fall out with the promotors/TOTB last year over timing or something???

Chris,

thanks for taking the time to post - your head must be in a spin after such a big event. Two points if I may:

1) viewing - given the number of people on the day and the fee charged I think to move the event forward some form of elevated seating plus better viewing of the handling circuit is inevitable. You are a victim of your own success - for example the smaller scooby shootout can still do without.

2) queuing - by comparison with the number of people that go to the airshows at Elvington TOTBIII coped quite well. It can take an hour to get in at these shows so I would not feel too bad about this - it took me 20 mins to get in which seemed to be at the peak (11am). The stewards coped well in my view and they should be thanked for their contribution.

I beat the CRD Impreza when the put the proper drag radials on, but to be fair i think they trashed their first set of wheels with the accident. They did very well to get the car going again.
