But they won't get you very far unless you have a ScoobyECU PCB and 2 74ACT573 Transparent latches, 2 capacitors and a 28 Pin DIL Header.
The only single chip solution is a MBM27C1028 which you will only find from obsolete component suppliers as they stopped manufacture in the mid 90's.

the point i was trying to make is..........
jon orginally was going to sell his chips for £120, and said if we got 8 we can have them for £100. Then we have ended up with about 20 on the list (if there all still there!), i asked jon how much he could reduce the price by, and as told he couldn't cos it wouldn't be worth him doing it. Surely with the price of componants being that low he could knock a bit more off?
How much is a eprom blower? bet its not that much!

FYI when the 27C1028 was available Prodrive were apparently paying about £50.
Now they are obsolete you will probably pay alot more for one from an obsolete component supplier.
If a ScoobyECU is used the 27C512 are £2.70, the 74ACT573 are £0.44, the capacitors are pence, header is about £3.50 and 2 28-pin DIL sockets are £0.47 each, plus an extra one for the ECU PCB (Optional). This works out at about £8.00, but then you have to add the cost of the PCB (which should also reflect manufacturing & tooling costs).
O.K the price of parts is minimal, but it's not the Hardware Material you are paying for. It's the code and it's development time that costs.
ECUTEK charge anything from £300 - £700, what Hardware Material do you get with that...ermmm...squat !!!!!!! just a load of '1's and '0's squirted down the select monitor port.
P.S A programmer for 27C512's can be bought/built DIY for about £40. But this won't programme a 27C1028. You need a much more expensive and proffesional programmer to read/programme one of these.
