Am 26 and due to loads of sh*t happening, I still live with my parents. Pay £150 a month rent/housekeeping, and then pay the phone/broadband on top of that. I also buy food for me & my fiance.
I'm no angel - I still leave cups etc laying around and my room is a tip! but i help out where I can with housework & gardening...
£26k, with a brand new car.. I think Joan would be wise to do as she has said.. charge him a set amount and then squirrel some away - you never know when he either a)would want a place of his own or b) like me have the threat of redundancy thrown at him..a little nest egg would certainly help with the HP payments on that motor if it came to it!!!

FROM THE OTHER THREAD...
Thanks everyone...lots of good points there...
Dinner is usually around 5pm because it fits in with all of us, stepson finishes work at 4pm so is usually home between 4.15-4.30....Peter is also home by then and obviously Harrison is home from school.
I don`t clean his room because when he moved in he said it would 'his space' which I respected, but he hasn`t even asked where the cleaning things are!!!!
I do his washing/ironing/cooking mainly because he can`t do it himself, a job his own mother should have taught him and secondly he wouldn`t clear up after himself and I`d end end up with a filthy kitchen....like I did when I had my hysterectomy last year for a week...came home to find the sink full of washing up and clothes still in the washing machine/tumble drier.
You are right he is in for a short sharp shock as he has no idea as to how to cope in the big wide world.....
Personally, I do think he wastes his money although I do not know what he spends it on???? He goes out most Saturday nights...not sure how much he spends then, but he never has ANY money left at the end of the month!!!! Not even a fiver!!!!
I don`t want him to stop going out but at 26, he has NO IDEA....sometimes I think he is a 17 yr old the way he behaves.
I am going to try and bring the subject up at tea tonight....but you can bet the penny doesn`t drop.
