Hi guys i got my headers fitted on Saturday. As my car had not been on the road with the original ones on, i don't know what the difference is but according to the guy who brought the car in from Japan, he thinks its a different car to drive!!!!!!

I still have the original uppipe and downpipe on at the moment as my downpipe has still not came from gruppe-s.........No point putting the uppipe on without the downpipe to follow.

Hopefully the weekend will see the full kit up and running. I will admit that i am so happy to still have the flat 4 burble coming out.

I have heard so many people complain about loosing them when they change the headers.

There's deffo *less* burble though. Any my exhaust is definitely louder as a result of flowing more gas. But i've ordered more lagging to try to combat this before looking at different backbox options (PowerStation reckon the Magnex one comes in as one of the quietest, they don't rate my Hayward & Scott).

The Magnex box is very quiet, mine measures just 92 dBa at 5000 rpm.

I'm still here too!
Have the gaskets arrived so I can pick up my set/up pipe from your works?

no. they havent arrived yet.
sorry.

I'm going to source some transit gaskets in the meantime as a temporary measure.
------------------------------------------------------
It seems that despite me sending them an email on the 16th with a detailed list of the priority people, AND speaking to Mike in person regarding it.. they have sent them out to random people... FFS

when this is all put to bed, the boss at GruppeS is going to get a very bemused email from me explaining my dismay at the disorganisation and poor customer service.
I suggest you ALL do the same.

Its amazing to me that they sell anything overseas if they can't even get gaskets together.. and if not, at least let the customer know the score within a day without having to be chased by me- the customer again and again....
not a WEEK!!....

they have no idea what they are letting themselves in for....

OK, I'll wait until the real thing arrives from Gruppe S.
I agree with your point of view on Service though, we would be dead if we did our business in this manner here at work.

Keep me posted, 911

My gaskets just arrived. Two headers and one up-pipe. I'm sure the latter will come in handy some time

Thanks for all your hard work, Chrome.

Richard.

Chrome

If nobody else has snapped up the film rights to this epic saga, can I have first refusal please?

I'm thinking of casting Nicolas Cage in your part as the decent, honest bloke who one day becomes so frustrated with the inefficient world around him that he blows a gasket.

(Well, he would if he had any. )

FYI in case anyone wants to get the bungs from Think Automotive; went along this lunchtime, manifold in hand, and did eventually get what i needed.

M18 bung is no prob, along with copper washer.

M12 x 1.25 is a little more complex; they only have M12x1.5, and the only way to do this thread type was to buy a Metric-JIC (male-male) adapter, with M12x1.25 on one end, the JIC on the other (brake hose part, I guess) and then screw a JIC blanking cap onto the open end....looks like a metal dustcap. Alternatively, you can hacksaw the JIC bit off and weld up the hole for a traditional hex bung.

With copper washer for that too, plus the VAT, came to just over £6 (!!)...couldn't be assed to run around the countryside finding a cheaper alternative! I gave the guy there a heads-up that he could be getting quite a few people asking for these parts...he looked nervous! (Chrome, do you know this guy, by chance??!! )

That's an *awful* lot of bother to go to, Spen, when as previously mentioned, South Essex Fasteners on 01702 615326 will send you exactly what you need at a fraction of that cost...

Yeah, I know I thought I could prob get exactly the same parts from Think, and it was (kind of) on my way home from Bedfont Lakes yesterday....of course, by the time I got there, I couldn't be ar5ed with the sh4g-and-hassle of going somewhere else....missus away this weekend, so can play in peace with car... and want all the bits there ready....I'll bear it in mind if there's a next time!

Just collected my headers/up-pipe from Chrome. Fab engineering!

I was in a bit of a rush Chrome to get back to work, forgot to say THANKYOU for all the effort, look forward to the head/manifold gaskets when you have them. The up-pipe had gaskets ok.

Regards, 911

fianally got mine fitted today the car is now leak free, but for how long. the exhaust maker who fitted the headers was commenting on the quality of the collector he assked me how much they were and he was shocked by the price he reckons its a steal for the quality of the manifold, its changed a little since the version 1 as i was comparing the 2 and they are a bit different i can now hear the sound of my super drager exhaust

cheers

steven

Can anyone send me a pic on the up pipe from the group buy.

Chome,
Scoobyclinic didn't send me a pic, can you get one?

Chrome had the first adaptor, but it seems the boss on the up pipe is on a different side to the one I have (bought a few month ago!)
Basicly the sensor doesn't fit between Chrome's up pipe and heads

The sensor shouldn't be near the heads if the up pipe is the same as the one above.
I'll try and call the clinic in the morning to get the low down

they couldnt fit the sensor into the upipe as it wouldnt fit with the defi EGT and the machined adapter that dyney had made.

instead- they put it into the boss near the heads.

thats all i know. will be seeing them in the morning.

OK sounds like the boss on Chromes's up pipe is in a different place to mine/the pic above.

When fitted the boss points towards the engine, where as mine points towards the chassis leg! This means there isn't enough room to get the Defi sender in between the up pipe and the cylinder heads
Pity as Andy at Scoobyclinic said the adaptor fitted perfectly

Those that ordered the adaptor, please check your up pipe boss orientation or send me a pic so I can.
You all have mail!

Thanks,
Iain.

How strange. I would have expected that the boss would have been in the same place on every uppipe.

Unless of course it's part of the manufacturers company policy to nuture creativity amongst the workforce. Imagine the scene in the factory:

Worker A: Where shall we weld the boss on this one then? A little further to the right than normal perhaps?

Worker B: No, I've got a better idea. How about putting it at the opposite end of the pipe, instead! Don't think anyone's tried that position yet?

Worker A: Nah, someone did that last week and got awarded 'Employee of the month' for showing originality above and beyond the call of duty. What we need is a killer position which will secure our Christmas bonus.

Worker B: Ok, how about we fit multiple bosses? That'll confuse the hell out of them!

Worker A: Great idea. Let's go to work.........dum dum de dum da dum.........finished!
