Mine used to be £400 a month when I had the Scoob

Did you drive your Tiv on the track at all? Personally, I think this "track car" thing is overrated. What you need is a good roadcar that is also adequate on track, because most of the time you'll be driving on the roads. If you want a dedicated track car don't **** around with all this "road-legal" stuff -- get a tow car, a trailer, and an old FFord or FRenault or its ilk.

All well and good but most track days don't allow open wheelers, so you have to go for (expensive) testing days instead.

Production cars don't go well on track (generally, bar elises etc) they're too heavy so kill tyres, brakes, suspension, bushes etc etc. Financially it is far better to have a "track car" and a road car (if you're serious abot trackdays).

IMO of course

never tracked the TVR as i had done lots of track stuff on my bike and didnt fancy do days where the cost of wear and tear was higher than the bike but the times where slower!

the only thing the TVR taught me was that soft tops are cool...wind in the hair is as close to being on a bike as you can get in a car. it also taught me that you are better to give up 10% of coolness in exchange for 100% reliability. hence i will be getting a Z4 3.0 when the prices dip in the winter.

Well I'm taking my Cerb to Snetterton next week, so I'll see how I get on. I was thinking of selling it (the old reliability thing again) but it's just had a new rad so that may be the last of the problems. Trouble is, Cerb prices are rock bottom at the moment so it's not worthwhile selling.

TBH it's a bit "enthusiast" for me -- fine if you like tinkering with cars but I just want to jump in and go. OTOH the noise, speed and looks are fantastic. Could get a RUF Turbo instead, but I don't have the spare £150k.

a few years back a mate sold a nice 200sx for a cerbera 4.2 99 t plate, in 2001. paid 26k for it. used it on weekends only. he had it for 18 months during that time he never used it overnight as it wouldnt start if it wasnt garaged or got damp, it leaked through the cills, carpets were ruined. had a complete engine rebuild. in total he spent 13k in 18 months and had to remortgage his house. he did more miles in courtesy cars than he did in the cerbera.

he sold it for 21k. and was devestated. sav yourself the heartache and look at something german.

The mechanic at brundle tvr told him he bought the wrong model at the wrong time, the first tvr built 4.2's are a disaster waiting to happen, the rover 4.0 and 5.0 are the safer bet, but the more modern tvr 4.2 & 4.5's and 4.0's seem to be ok.

so from this advice do not look at early 4.2 cerbs

Mine starts on the button most times. Only a problem if you leave it for a couple of weeks with the alarm on -- then it discharges the battery.

From 1998 onwards the 4.2s got better (whisper cams and the new clutch). If you get a Speed 6, you need a 2003-spec engine.
