Right,

at the moment we're looking at going the way Neil suggested (M62 route) because I can see far less potential for getting totally lost.

Out of curiosity, is anybody travelling from Ormskirk or down the A570?

We'll definitely be in the Scoob because apparently there's nowhere to land our helicopter.

 

I will be travelling from ormskirk but it will be like the blind leading the blind, i am about 2 mins away from edge hill i know my way to the A580, but from there not too sure. So at the mo i will be travelling the m62 route

 

simplyscooby, we can go via Ormskirk and meet you somewhere en-route. When you say Edge Hill do you mean the college? We'd be travelling past there at 40mph and slowing down for the speed camera.

Scoobess and I will be happy to meet you somewhere in Ormskirk and then we could go the M62 route - I know the way on that route! What do you think?

 

minor threat and scoobess what about meeting up at b.p garage before the roundabout by the fire station and st bedes high school on the a59 in ormskirk. It should be on route for all of us if we are heading towards switch island. How does that sound and what time?

Scoobess bp is on a570 till you get to ormskirk (orrell and ormskirk rugby pitch) and right on to a59 about 1/2 down on the left.

 

you lot seem to be taking the long way round. isn't it quicker to go through ormskirk to past safeway etc heading towards the m57 then head toward st.helens on rhe rainford bypass then through st.helens to the mickle head green pub?

Or through Maghull onto the M57 and onto the M62 and off at Stoops?

Off up the M58, down the M6 and then the M62 - by the time you've got there you'll be outa petrol and have to stay the whole night

 

Ah, but that would require knowledge of Ormskirk, Safeway, heading towards the M57, heading towards St. Helens, navigating through St. Helens and finding the pub!

Simplyscooby, do you know this route?! If you have any kind of inkling we could try it. I don't mind driving into the twilight zone.

I'll try and do a route plan on the AA website, I'm a useless man if I can't manage to find a pub! LOL!

 

Minor Threat If blueboy's directions are correct i do know the long way round i think, i will try the a570 on the way back, for future preference. What time at B.P or would edge hill/safeway be an easier place to meet?

I've done the sensible thing and looked at a map and the A570 looks easy enough! Instead of turning onto the M58 after Ormskirk we carry straight on under it, past the Little Expensive Chef and stay on that road forever until we get to the pub. I'll send you a PM now with my mobile number and email address in case you can't make it. I suggest two meeting points, either somewhere near Edge Hill College (as we drive right past that) or at the (?) petrol station before the roundabout by the M58 Junction. Do you know these places, and which one is easiest for you? Let me know.

Gentlemen . . . Scoobess, myself and simplyscooby will be entering the twilight zone at approx. 7pm, so if we're not at the pub by 8 of the clock then assume I have cocked up what looks like a really simple route and 2 scoobies need rescuing.

Is it more than 30 minutes from Ormskirk on the A570, or less? Anybody know?

 

about 25-30 mins from there!

its the litte chef/petrol station, under the motorway along the Rainford bypass, across the east lancs road (with a safeway petrol station on your left) and follow the road down the hill. Traffic lights ( at imo car wash) turn right, then next lights turn left, along that road (passing asda on left) across roundabout then follow the m62 signs and the pub is on the 4th (i think) roundabout, you can't miss it!

 

I was only joking with my route, but I have to say, some of the ones your talking about here (while shorter) would take you longer to get there than down the M57 in the first place from switch island (after all it's only one junction up on the M62 from where you come out and the M57 takes no time to get down).

Just a thought

 

just watch out for the police on the 57, they have a habit of hiding

in fact looking at the map just folow the A570 all the way from southport. easy isn't it!

 

Yep! Would have been harder to find in my helicopter 'as the crow flies', I don't know how those crows manage to reach their destinations without following roads.

We're meeting Simplyscooby at the M58 junction and following the A570. If anybody else is passing that way about 7pm let us know!
