I popped into my local Halfords, but they don't seem to do 80/100, only the 50/55W ones. Are they Halfords own brand??

How good are PIAA driving lights?
Will i miss the standard fog lights?

What is the correct alignment for dip beam and main beam and whats the best way of setting them?

Thumbs up

Gizzmo/Rooky1,

Cheers guys, I'll ask at my local Halfords if they can check that part#.

I was well chuffed with their PIAA bulbs, so hopefully some proper headlight/sidelight bulbs will sort out the lighting once nnd for all.

The PIAA driving lights turn night into day (once you have aligned them correctly).
You will not miss your front fogs unless you normally drive at 3mph, enjoying the illumination of 40cm of road in front of your car!

Enjoy!

just put my Phillips Vison Plus's in.

I'm sceptical as they say 12v 60/55w on them, which is exactly the same as the ones I took out? hmmm

think I'll pop down halfords and get some 100w jobbies as well.

Andy, as always, you have a very valid point, will keep stchum until tonight when I drive home, then we'll see the real results.

fingers crossed that it will be daylight.

plus there is the fact that I don't drive on full beam, just on dipped main beam, so that has to be accounted for as well

Iain,

My last car ran high wattage PIAA bulbs for about 3 months and when it came to sell the car, I couldn't remove the bulbs from the plugs!

I know Moe had the same problem with his and they were only in for a few months!

Apparently the UK looms can't cope as well as the Japanese cars, but I can't confirm or deny this!

I've spoken to others with the same problem and read of some other cases here.

That's why I made the move to the *legal* Vision Plus bulbs!

Cheers
Andy

Cool

You guys are certainly very helpful was going to get the piaa's not know have just oredered the vision plus and the laser blue sidelights kiddies for should be cool with the clear indicator lenses I'm also waiting for. Just a note of caution I've tried in the past using 100/80's and 130/110's this was a few years ago they burnt a few wiring looms out they also melt things dunno on a scooby though I would have expected the wiring looms to be a bit more macho i don't want to be the first to try it as Ive only had my my98 dgm 2 weeks.

Do you mean the little orange grilles below the indicators?

If so, these don't come as part of the indicators. Not sure what their purpose is, but they are dead easy to remove and repaint.

You'll see 2 little slots in the top edge of the grille, slip a screwdriver wrapped in rag in these, and the grille should just pop out.

I sanded mine down with very fine sandpaper, cleaned with white spirit and sprayed them with black Hammerite - no chipping of problems in 4 months.

The grilles just push back in.

As mentioned before, try the Phillips Vision Plus bulbs available from http://www.powerbulbs.com

They run at a legal wattage and the improvement is amazing! Not bad for £20 and they normally arrive next day!

Hope this helps

Cool

Have to agree - brought the Philips Vision Plus at the w/e and the improvement is amazing. Very white light, much stronger than the originals.

Remember guys if your ordering from Powerbulbs you'll get an extra 10% discount http://www.powerbulbs.com/offer/

Just ordered myself some BlueVision Sidelights W5W (£7.50) and VisionPlus H4's (18.75) for the Headlights. Minus 10% discount of course

Will hopefully post some before/after shots if they turn out well.

Well, I have upgraded to Vision Plus headlights and the Blue jobby sidelights and the lighting improvement is excellent. Recommend Highly. They took about 5 days to appear from Powerbulbs, and took 10 mins to fit. We won't go into the sidelight housing issue!!

Much better, considering they are standard legal lights as well!

Well what can I say, ordered those bulbs from Powerbulbs yesterday at 17:12hrs and what was waiting on my desk at 09:00hrs this morning .... my headlight, sidelight and free fog light bulbs.

Can't ask for more than that.

Big thanks to John from Powerbulbs for a top service.

Bu66er..well I can't say I wasn't warned! After all the above posts I went to check the connectors to my 100/80 bulbs and, guess what? Yep they've welded themselves to the bulbs. Will have to see if I can't coax them off at the w/e and replace the originals while I get some Vision Plus. If they're stuck solid I might just leave them til the bulb blows, as I'll have to cut off the connector and replace (or bodge with spade connectors!)

As I started this thread, thought it only fair to warn you all.

Question

I've had the Phillips Vision Plus bulbs in my scooby for 3 months now (MY95 import) as part of the "package" when I bought the car from the dealer. I also had the fogs converted to driving lights for the full/main beam. I did this after researching scoobynet for 3 months before I bought the right car based on the views that you lot out there were posting. (thanks everyone)

However, when I'm driving with dipped lights, they seem to be too bright for some oncoming traffic (not all), so I get alot of "flashing" at me and some "full beam dazzling" on occassions.

Does anyone else get this happening? Do I need to check the alignment? Is it just because the bulbs are "up to 50%" brighter.

I certainly don't have problems seeing where I'm going in the dark - I could light up a football pitch now.

Alan,

Does your car have a headlight levelling adjuster on the dash? (might just be later models).

Haven't fitted mine yet, but we'll see if people start flashing me as well.
