As a matter of interest Simon, how are you doing the tuning? With a Subaru ECU and EcuTeK, or a.n. other mappable ECU?

Also, do you have any control over the DCCD-A map, or are you stuck (for better or worse) with the standard one?

sorry about that, had my silly head on last night…

Ok, tuning is the JDM ECU and EcuTek software, I am using a 3 port solenoid and I will use a 2 port actuator too but it’s not ready yet. I’m just doing a little light playing at present, max boost at 100% throttle is 2.28bar (all figures are “bar” and absolute pressure) I have a big 1.5bar plateau that I’m using to explore the fuel economy, I’ve taken some fuel away too (f**k it runs rich as std..!). I love using a 3 port solenoid, boost control is so bloody solid, and I’ve always hated that damn restrictor.

I’ve made some changes to the open / closed loop, and some other more in-depth stuff but have left the ign more or less alone at present, I’m pretty amazed at how happy it is with all that ign to be honest.

The induction is non std, I have a 76mm pipe that narrows to 56mm under the manifold before the turbo entry, after I re-locate the PAS reservoir onto the strut tower (at the weekend) I can then build the intake “box” that the missing inner headlight will supply, hopefully giving some positive pre-turbo pressure at decent speed (or at least removing any possible intake depression) with the useful side-effect of supplying air as close as possible to ambient temp to the turbo

Don’t have any control of the factory DCCD-A yet but I do have another programmable ECU that I can use when I get around to playing with that

The EBD ABS sensors are all in, as is the brain / pump assembly (mounted 6’’ lower than normal to make room for forced induction box) I have an order ready to go off to Goodridge for all the plumbing bits but I’m trying to find a good (but not too expensive) pipe flaring tool first, If I find a nice one I will cut back the Goodridge order and make up some pipe’s myself. Looking at the wiring diagrams it’s not mad complicated, your problem would be getting all the bits for sensible money though. Not sure about your SVX reference, my understanding is that the 22B has “normal” rear hubs (with a ferking huge spacer) certainly the bearings are the same.

Fitting the drive train is an absolute piece of **** mate, unbolt the 92MY stuff and then bolt in the 03MY bits, really, it’s that simple…

The bits I found taking time are stupid things like the fuel pump / fuel level loom was missing so I had to make that, I am also missing the door looms / door switches, I’m hoping that they are going to show, if not that will take a day of buggering around to make the mirrors, windows and locks work. I had to cut the plugs off for the front and rear wipers, also the lights and rad fans in order to interface between the 92MY and 03MY stuff.

I have the 03MY door cards and they seem to fit more or less ok, the pedals also went in fine. The dash needed a little umm fettling as did the firewall (needed anther hole) but it’s pretty much together. Need to get it all out again now I’ve put a few miles on it and fit it all in properly, fabricate a few brackets and stuff make it a nice job. Ever time I switch it on and see the electro luminesant (sp?) gauges do their thing it makes the messing around worth it though

Cheers

Simon

Does this mean you're going to have a line of stickers all the way down the side of the door, like some spotty teen's Saxo?

Just had the car on the set-up rig (doing the geometry)

Corner weights are: -

Front, 365.4 - 390.0
Rear, 248.1 - 234.6
Total 1239kg

This is with two stock 02MY seats and 1/3 tank of gas

To say i'm now a happy bunny would be an understatement

Cheers

Wow, that's really impressive given the extra weight of the 6MT and (presumably heavier) 03MY HVAC/dash assembly.

Is that including a full interior inc carpets, roof lining and door caps, or is there more weight to go in before she's finished?

To be honest I think the 03MY Dash / HVAC is lighter!

It has all roof lining, door cards, electric windows, central locking, a full size battery and air con fitted.

I have to fit the carpet (maybe 2.5kg's?) the stock 02MY WRX seats are in there now, I will be fitting the Recaro's shortly for road use (a little more weight than the stock 02MY seats, maybe +4kg per seat?) but I have a pair of CF shell seats with ally mounts for "events"

This was really just a "first cut" to see what the damage was, to be honest i'm over the moon with it, a bit of effort should see it under 1100kg's in "event" trim!

Cheers

Have you had a chance to take some more pics yet? I have been reading this thread with great interest and I must say a "Classic" shell with a 2003 6 speed JDM engine, and a "new age" interior would be the ultimate Impreza for me and probably a lot of other people too.
God how I wish I could do things like this.

Hi Danny B,

No sorry, I am going back to LA in a week (for 3 weeks) so I have just been going a bit nuts getting things done. When I get back i'm going to take the dash out to fit it for the last time, fabricate some little brackets (fill in the ferking huge hole in the firewall) etc - I'll take a bunch of pix then.

I think it's pretty cool, some will only see the J reg plate though. But hopefully not on here, I think most here are enthusiasts (sp?)

Cheers

It would be amusing to take it to a dealers but it's an import AND it's got non approved mods on it...

And nobody seems to have a select moniter cart for it either..!

Re-located the PAS res at the weekend, waiting for my catch-tank to turn up now then I can fab-up the filter box and forced air feed.

I have a nice JAZ plastic fuel tank sitting in LA waiting for me to bring it back and fit it, that'll save a bit of weight - chucking the std tank out

Cheers

That's another good reason to go for a high speed blast then....(Returning the car back to the garage with nothing but vapour left in the tank)

Nick.

Simon

I think you've taken the sunny weather with you......I'm sure you'll be pleased to know it's raining quite a lot over here

See you in a few weeks.....

Nick.

p.s. Don't forget they airlines have a weight limit for luggage on your return trip, we don't want you to get charged for excess baggage
