Undertaking.
Personally I dont see why undertaking should be a problem to implement. If the powers that be trust any muppet to drive at a maximum of 60 mph on twisty country lanes (120mph collision potential) then I dont think undertaking on wide 3 lane carridgeways in a straight line should create too many probems.

Yep, I use motor way every day of the week. And end up undertaking everyday as well. If you are ignorant or stupid enough to be doing a stupid slow speed in any other lane than the nearside one you shouldn't be on the motorway in the first place. Go back and learn how to drive.
IMHO of course

Find that going to work in the morning - sitting at steady 55mph I will slowly undertake cars then they all brake I dont, then they pass me miles later, then i undertake again and usually I tak emy clip road exit over 12 miles away before they pass me.
I've had a smooth ride with littel or no speeding up/slowing down and not driving up someone elses hoop causing more potential for an accident.

have probably never even driven without the aid of street lights, do we have a night driving element as well? over to you.............Gary

chaos, how old are you man ? i always thought you were an awkward middleaged scoobyowner whos wife had left him.But if you havent even passed your test, you must be a brave young person p1ssing everyone off here every now n again.Well, all the best with your test.you are an interesting soul.
Apart from the aggravation factor caused by lane hogs, they also lead to needless congestion on many 2,3 and 4 lane roads.
As a regular user of the SW 4 lane stretch of the M25, I am often left wondering if I've missed a new Highway Code amendment stipulating that cars should always keep out of the inside lane (except when joining and existing); avoid using the second lane as much as possible, and, instead, always travel in one of the two outside lanes (doesn't really matter which one - but once you're in it, stay there no matter what).
As a result the outermost two overtaking lanes carry around 80% of the car traffic, with innermost lanes often being almost deserted. Result - inefficient use of available road space, which causes needless congestion.
In my experience, the American system of over or undertaking leads to all the lanes on their freeways being used more or less equally. Yes, the system takes a bit of getting used to, but once you've got the hang of it you do wonder why we continue to use such an antiquated and inefficient system.

.... you were right after all
I don't use the motorway a great deal, but I don't see that you are doing anything wrong if you are in the left-hand lane on a lightly populated road, travelling at or below the speed limit and you happen to pass people in the centre lane going slower than you are. They are not following the rules of the road. You have committed no deliberate undertaking maneouvres and I don't see how you can be held at fault.
