A combined sound/sight/smell of a well driven BDA engined Escort barking through the trees at 8500 rpm, stones pinging off the sumpguard, leaving a faint whiff of hot Castrol, Mintex and mud behind.

Sorry, but nothing else comes close.

Highly tuned Skylines sound quite freaking awesome, some of the ones at Trax sounded like aircraft taking off going down the straights, the headers made so much noise. When you see them take off on full chant, they really are quite something, all the gizmology trying to force all that power down, I had a little mpeg of a race with a twin engined nova sounded mental!

Same goes for well tuned scoobies, they have such a distinctive sound.

Boxster 's's make a nice note, as do most, the new supercar thing sounds awesome.

ITR and s2000 in full vtec sound grunty.

goto the mclaren f1 site and download the sound files of an f1 going through the gears from inside the cabin, sounds chicken oriental.

Westfield cossys with their low rumble and tweatering turbos sound pretty special.

I'll just stop there, otherwise I will just go on and on all night... LOL!

Top of the tree has to be the Aston Vanquish, V12 heaven,
then; My classic scoob, with the obligatory full H&S decat.
Then, the oldest car in my collection, which is a 1929 Morris Minor, 847cc, with an overhead cam, very advanced for 1929!!!
Then, the next car in the garage, which is a 1953 Fench Ford, but wiht Facel Metalon coachwork, fitted with a Flathead V8, Awesome!
See pic!!

Needs a bit more work, but I'll get there!!

I knew Olly would be on this thread raving about BDA's, thats because thanks to his Dad, his first words were 'Rally Car'

Beg to differ meself though Oll, I think the sound of Andy Burton's Alfa Ferrari howling through the forests around Ludlow takes some topping

Or alternatively, Tom Hammond's pikes peak quattro sport cackling up Shelsey Walsh

For the first time on ordinary Brit roads, I recently had occasion to witness a Jaguar XJ220 being driven in the way it was designed for. Magnificent sound for a road going car. Very unexpected and a very rare sight and sound.

On the track, the 'bread van' Ferrari has yet to be bettered to my ears ....unforgetable.

Dome WROTE:

>>can I add a Metro 6r4? <<

You certainly can ..... same power plant as the XJ220 - minus a couple of turbos ...

Without question:

1) Maxda at Le Mans in the mid 90's
2) Panoz at Le Mans in the late 90's

Any JUDD powered machine, (DOME etc) sound awesome. the best V12s' i have herd are the Lister storm GT cars. Someone mentioned the chevy blocks, sorry but dont you find the noise they make lazy and unefficent?? (they dont rev very high!)
Plus a bit off the topic, but any car fitted with a JET engine wins the best noise award hands down the one at TOTB 2 sounded un-real. Great thread by the way

I think a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang with straight through pipes will have something to say in this discussion.

AstonMartin Vanquish.... nice sound at ~160mph
And: PORSCHE CARRERA GT. This car is built near my home... very nice when they drive over their own racetrack. (Even if you´re more than 2 miles away you can here it VERY clear!
BTW the Cayenne Turbo Gemballa(?) is also very nice.

The SL is much to quiet!!!

6R4 Metro- in rally spec is awsome, my mates dad used to rally one- earsplitting. Love the old Ferraris 250 GTO etc & the 355 sounds rather nice at high revs.
