The terrorists don't even need to use a bomb to cripple the City. A few well placed suspicious looking bags every day and the place would come to a standstill. There are enough false security scares as it is - with dopey old biddies and tourists leaving bags lying about.

To actually kill and maim hundreds of people is frighteningly easy. If a suicide bomber decided to blow him/herself up at Victoria mainline station during the peak of the rush hour - the results would be horrific. There are countless places where it would be straightforward to cause either lots of deaths or outrage or both. Especially if we are talking suicide bombers. Alternatively biological and chemical attacks are pretty difficult to protect against. If I were still travelling on the tube, I would carry my military spec S10 Respirator (gas mask). Some of the chemicals around now are extremely unpleasant, even if they don't have quite the same shock value as body parts strewn everywhere.

Incidentaly, I saw 2 coppers dressed in Special Ops gear walking down St James Park tube platform with military Chemical Agent Monitors early last year. I just hope that British Intelligence is a lot better than the NSA/CIA/FBI et al that didn't see 9/11 coming...

 

Because its just an excuse for these f**king sick extremists to justify their actions, i mean FFs how can you have a 'holy war', if many of these people are known to the authorities then they shouldnt be on the streets, and all I've been hearing this week is how the f**kers were mistreated at camp x-ray, what a sad society we live in.

When I arrived in Iraq during the war last year (March 22nd), I didn't have an NBC suit. Many of the guys that arrived with me didn't have any NBC protection at all - not even a respirator. We endured half a dozen Scud alerts before someone with some rank finally went and ordered some of the Regulars to hand over their spares for us. Body Armour took a while to arrive, as well as desert clothing, boots etc. I could go on but my blood is already boiling...

Personally I don't think it will happen in London. Birmingham or Manchester would be my reckoning, these guys will have learned form the IRA's activities in this country, does anyone remember the the bomb found on the gas holders in Warrington?

BTW, the best way to hurt London would be to hit Cardiff in May

 

Yup - a sporting event would be a good one - cup final, rugby, Euro 2004 in Portugal you name it - anywhere with a big crowd and TV cameras must be on the list. It's so obvious that the authorities will step up security but there is only so much you can do against a determined suicide bomber - look at the number of "successes" the palestinians have had in Israel - one of the most security concious / paranoid countries on the face of the earth !

 

B2Z - I see what you are saying, but no it really doesn't cross my mind that on my journey to work this morning I might get bombed. I don't think that is an ignorant attitude its just something that I don't think about.

I am actually leaving my job in two weeks and moving to job closer to home, not because I am scared of terror attacks but because I can no longer stand commuting for 3 hours everyday.

As little as is known it is repetedly stated that Bin Laden has set up indenpendent terror cells wolrdwide working on their own. So even capturing his nasty self would not help catching terrorists or prevent acts of terrorism. Rather the opposite i'd say. But one certain American President I could name probably would see that as a big victory over terrorism and exploit it in his campaign for presidency.

 

We aint doing to badly so far...detecting, preventing and capturing terrorists...by my count we're 100% effective so far...
