Thought so (didn't see the plate)

Proves it was Kath passing me on the run to and through a certain large set of lights - she couldn't wave for the phone clamped to her ear

She surely can't say that a WR Blue scoob with gold wheels is invisible...

Default Maddy spotted...

Talking of spotted.. Maddy, caught you this morning in Morely..is that where you live? As it's a stones throw from my work up by the Angel..

Those 19's look bloody awesome mate!

I waved out my window, but I'm not sure if you caught who it was in time, as you looked a tad surprised that some mad git was waving at you...

Yeah, would be Mate. She went to Ikea this afternoon - again.... Where did you spot her, so I can surprise her with my encyclopaedic knowledge of her whereabouts.

Default Repair specialist needed....

Guys,

Some tit has hit my car in the company car park.

We've got it on CCTV and I have got the name of the nice individual, who got out of his MK5 Blue escort to take a look at the damage, twice, before getting in and driving of with his girl.

I am about to send this person an carefully crafted e-mail as the CCTV is not fully conclusive (Reg No), but I have seen a remarkably similar car with severe damage to his bumper (in the right spot). We can get some more detailed images following him around the building and walking to the right area if needed, but hopefully it won't come to that. So hopefully I can get it repaired on his insurance (if he has any).

My question (apart from getting a teeny weeny bit of sympathy ) is to find a decent repair specialist in the area.

The damage is a foot or so long on my rear nearside and has creased and heaviliy scaratched the door, body and bumber and scuffed the Alloy.
Any suggestions?

Al.

Jeez Al - what a sod Mate!! Can't believe the little ****** bu**ered off as well....

I used Monty's budyshop in Sheffiled for my WRX about 18 months ago when I mangled the front bumper. Superb match - can't tell AT ALL!!! Might be worth a try.

Otherwise, have a go at Shepley Coachworks, now based up at Grange Moor. Great reputation in the area.

Hope it all goes well mate.

Cheers, HB.

Unhappy

Really sorry to hear that Al. This has happened to me twice now, where the culprit has driven off, but I had no CCTV footage....

Nail the *****!!

Ditto Chris' comments re Shepley Coachworks. Very good work done, but may be slightly more to pay.

As they say though, you gets what you pay. Or more to the point, you gets what the other g1t pays.....

Cheers
Simon

Sorry to hear about this Al. I've seen it done twice in the past, and both times have written all the details on a note and left it under the wipers. Good luck in your pursuit of the ******. Let us know (discretely ) if you need some assertive persuasion from the "Leather Pickers".

Quite weird. The guy took some photos the day after the bump (I didn't see it until Wednesday) and still didn't let me know.

He has kindly sent me an e-mail (with no apology) quoting the following link to take it to.

http://www.fleetsolutions.co.uk/mobi...y%20repair.htm

He quotes, Repairs can be carried out at your home or place of work - which means that you won't be without your car for even a day. And i am assured that it wwill be made like new - will this be acceptable to you?

I haven't clicked on the link yet, so I'll look over ther weekend after some opinions from you .

Later guys...

Very odd Mate. If he took the trouble to take photos, he was obviously expecting you to pursue him for a claim. So why didn't he just come clean and admit it in the first instance??

As it appears that he is admitting liability - ie this is implicit in the fact that he took the photos and sent you the e-mail - I would politely suggest that you will be taking the car to a reputable bodyshop that will repair to car to the condition it was in prior to the damage occuring.

I would also suggest that his actions are effectively an admission of 100% guilt - given that there can be no contributory negligence on your part, as the car was parked at the time....

Did he mention anything about liability in his correspondence, Al?

No mate. The guy's relatively junior and was pretty terse in the e-mails. I use the word junior to refer to age as well, as he sounds like my daughter (17) when asked to apologise for something, it's just a shrug of the shoulders and a grunt.

That's the impression I got from the mail. He even had the cheek to start off 'I believe I may have hit your car...' when the CCTV shows him getting out and looking twice after my car moved and alarm went off...

The way I see it is that if he'd been courteous enough to find me, admit it and apologise, even after a day or two, then I would hve been more inclined to show him some sympathy in the wallet department.

I'm not the type of guy who would make him pay for the hell of it, but I don't see why I should go out of my way to make his life easier after showing no respect. For me or my car.

I'll check out these guys now and see what they're about. Anyway, I've got all weekend to hear what you top blokes have got to say and advice on where to go.

Hi Al, that's a shocker M8. He presumably knew he was caught on candid camera but hoped you wouldn't notice 'til a later date! Having used various similar firms such as Chips Away, Dentmaster, Sprint Finish for small to middling repairs (Inc a tow bar gouge on a 2 week old scoob) I can safely say that the standard is variable, experiences range from unbelievably good to downright shoddy, so why should you be subject to the vagaries of a 3rd party chosen possibly at random or simply because it's a cheap & cheerful way for this ignoramous to save a few bob.
The temptation would be to go thru insurance to make sure it's handled totally to your satisfaction but why should you end up with a recorded incident when 0% at fault.
If t'was me then I'd be sticking out for a proper repair at a reputable bodyshop of YOUR choice (As recommended hereon), nothing less.
Might be an idea to get him to cough up the readies at the Quote stage so that the insrance option remains open if he won't play ball.

Sorry to here of the bad luck Al, if you need any help with "gentle persuation" dont hesitate to call.

I always use a guy called Chris at CB autos in headingley for any bodywork and his mate Graham for mechanical work.

Give Chris a call or have a ride up there. just tell him Phil with the Impreza recoomended him and he'll sort you out.

0113 2744387 ask for Graham or Chris.

good luck

a knackered Phil on his way to work

Al, I would echo Steve's comments etc here. My view is that you are entitled to have the car put back into the condition it was before the 'incident' occured - ie. basic legal principle of tort.

That means that, put simply for the benefit of the 'culprit' , you should take the car to the bodyshop of your choice, and that, within reason regardless of the cost, he should be responsible for settling the account in full.

After all, in law, there is a principle known as the 'thin skull rule' - no jokes please about 'let's test that out on the little ******' guys..... . It means that you should treat the victim as you find him/her. So, the perpetrator of the tortious act is responsible for the full consequences of his/her actions (provided that they are 'reasonably foreseeable' - but that's another matter, and you've no problem there!!).

Cheers, Chris.

Al...

Good advice from Steve and HB (is he a lawyer?)

Personal opinion...
**** the little fekka (after he's coughed up)

Hope everything works out. It's gutting when stuff like this happens through no fault of your own.

You could always put a big WYIOC sticker over it
