Dire Straits - Maddy, over to you mate.....
Dave, I've no idea whether the Scooby library shots are royalty free, although in practice I think litigation would be v unlikely, as they are being used for the purpose for which they were intended - ie promoting Scoobs. Copyright would most likely rest with those that commissioned the photos, ie FHI.

Hi Phil,
Mmmm.... Interesting..... It's a bit like the VHS v Betamax war in the 80s. Or maybe the Focus RS v Impreza WRX battle....
TBH, I was just getting used to the www.wyioc.co.uk site. I think you'd better chat with Al - he's the chairman, and the official site should reflect his input. Now, if you're looking at a 'breakaway' faction, that's another matter....
I think we should canvass a few opinions before we get too far with this. What does everyone else think? After all, mate, Maddy and Al have worked long and hard (no jokes please ) to get the current site up & running.

yep, Maddy & Al have put a lot of hard work into the site, but I always felt it needed something a little bit more. It wont be a break away site, but maybe just another reach out that we have.
obviously Mods & things need sorting out, but apart from that ,for my real first attempt at a site I thought it was very good..
anyway, let the discussion begin

Phil, well done mate. Looks great. Without wanting to put anyone out, the familiarity of Phils site is welcoming. It's obvious similarity to old Snet/SIDC/22B makes navigation easy, particuarly to newcomers. All credit to Maddy and Al for getting us going, but I favour the cheeky upstarts hijack site
Now Phil, how do I make my piccys work in the gallery?

Phil - the renegade site won't allow me to register. When I press 'Agree', I get redirected to the same page.... Groundhog day or what....

Phil's new site - A discussion
My apologies guys, I’ve just got back online again.Cheers HB, for that shove in the back… But he’s right. Phil’s site has now put us in a quandary that needs some discussion, decision and direction. As the unelected figurehead I’m happy to push forward, open up and direct discussion as to what we want to do.
OK. I seem to remember Phil’s early idea came about at one of the earlier meets over a beer, well before Maddy developed his site. I forgot all about it and Maddy’s post to start a site probably resurrected Phil’s idea, but it was quickly overtaken as Maddy did a great job in getting the site up in such a short space of time.
Phil pushed on wanting to develop something for his own interest as well as ours and he showed me the site sometime ago when it was a twinkle, under development and when it was far too advertisement orientated for our liking. Phil’s done some great work and I must say I like the site a lot. To echo’s Dave’s thoughts; its familiar look is good and I’m sure everyone will be able to get used the functionality quickly.
I did ask Phil to talk to Maddy about the possibility of amalgamating the sites and their ideas and I’m not aware if this happened.
Regardless, we now have two excellent sites (a bit like busses, in outer Mongolia. You don’t get one for 30 years, and two come along at once!!) that have left us with a difficult decision.
So, the pro’s and cons for each need discussing. We need Maddy’s input, feelings and opinion on Phil’s site. My concern is to keep the WYIOC clubs interests from being harmed or set back. Relationships are still being formed between us all and I wouldn’t want to see anyone offended or put upon. Both sites were done voluntarily and in good faith to help the club advertise itself and help us as members centralise our interests, so we need to have a good chin wag about what we now want.
Can I ask everybody to post their thoughts? I’ll no doubt get everyone’s take tomorrow at the fun day, and I will put together some summaries for discussion at the normal month end meet… we could have our proper first meeting?
Remember, the site needs to be one that we can all use to advertise us and help us with meets etc… to me the calendar function is VERY useful in getting across details for people wishing to join.
Also, I didn’t want it to take over SNET either as our main posting and socialising area, as that would distance us and separate us too much from the wider Scooby community.
We know the current site has limitations, and Phil’s site has a few teething problems, so constructive and reasoned comments please....

Well reasoned points here Al, which I would echo 100%.
I'm about to rush off for a meeting in Wakey, so can't really post in detail, but will do so this weekend when time and opportunity allow.
Cheers, HB.

Thanks for the few opinioins/views already, but more input is needed .
For those of you who haven't seen the site yet, it can be accessed here and is fully functional
http://aa.1asphost.com/MadGrip/webpage
I haven't got the address of www.wyioc.com working yet because of a problem with URL masking ,thats causing me a few headaches (any help welcome)
It basically means that once you login it accepts your details but then when the page refreshes it says not logged in.

My opinion is for Phil to domain mask www.wyioc.com to www.wyioc.co.uk , then i'll create a link to Phil's forum for him to manage because the forum on the current site is not too hot hence Phil's is better.
I'll also ditch the intro music.
The outcome is that we will have best of both worlds plus the 2 WYIOC domains being .co.uk and .com all pointing to one site.
But leave it up to the majority to decide whats best.

good idea Steve, not sure how we'd implement it though.. maybe we should get together one night over a few beers since were local to each other.
We should also expect quite a bit of traffic soon as the address is now posted on about a dozen websites and has also been admitted to countless search engines, but i could easily change that to the .uk addy
can your site incorporate the index page i built ?
hopefully see you tomorrow.
Cheers

Phil, would love a look at your site to pass an opinion, but despite having tried on several occasions, I keep getting a 'page not found' error. All I'm doing is clicking on your links.
So, my opinions, without having seen Phil's attempt...
Maddy's site looks good. But as he's already stated himself, the message board part is, at best, awkward to use, and I think this is reflected in the number of posts there. I am in agreement with Alan, in as much as postes should still be made on SN in order to keep our presence out there and visible to others, but a dedicated WYIOC board that is easy to use and pleasant to look at would be a great thing, as posts such as this, and things such as yesterday's Yokohama fund raising session ( ) could be kept between the relevant parties.
So, in brief, and without seeing Phil's site, the current site with a good message board would get my vote.
But then I'm not exactly a full vote any more, am I.

Your wsih is Granted Sticky
The alternate addy isnt working because of something to do with URL Masking, so I took down my home page and the rest is simple. If you go through the www.wyioc.co.uk address and click on WYIOC forums you'll find a nice new message board for us all to use.you'll have to register to use it, but it only takes a min or 2
basically its maddys site with my message board attached to it, looks good now.
hopefully we'll get a nice welcome page aswell soon.
SO GET POSTING !!

Agreed that it's worth raising this month as a possibility for an April jaunt.
Now, if you & Helen want to join us on any given Friday (or even mid-week), we'd be delighted to have a nosh with ya!
Cheers, Chris.

Nasty falls Mate? Hope they weren't too bad. Gotta keep all necessary Scooby-operating appendages in full working order!
Catch you soon. Cheers, Chris.
