What's going on???
I'm away for a week and come back to find a trip to the 'ring, a drive out to Whitby, 300 cars at the last meet, karting, cloned mistresses with numberplates, an early morning run, Dazza banned from Rallydrive (yippee ), and no doubt plans are afoot to remove any 'undesirable' vehicles from the 'club'
IF I'm still allowed, put me down for the karting, and the 'ring (would need to find Deutschland Bishi servicing type people), and the Whitby run, and possibly the early morning thing, and an easter egg.
Hows about a treasure hunt type thing one evening, could make it a family event ?
My diary's getting a bit full already!
Oh, CB...

One other thing you missed. There was discussion about several people chipping in to buy a track car, a la Tony Burns. Quite a bit of interest, just a few niggles to iron out such as where to keep it, how to transport it etc. We figured 8 @ £500 each to buy an old RA, and another £500 into a maintainence fund.
I need to get used to looking daft for when CG gets her Smart Cabriolet

I was / am considering the track car thing myself, being a bit greedy. But a 'group' buy sounds interesting. Not wanting to volunteer my services, but I run my business from a small industrial unit that you can get a Scooby into for secure storage, hence thinking about one myself, as it wouldn't be practical to keep it at home.
The biggest problem I can see would be the hammer the car would get if 8 people were thrapping it round a track constantly. Obviously with our own cars last time they had plenty of opportunity to recover from the three/four/five laps after every session. If you've got one car coming in then going straight out again things could get very hot / worn very quickly.
I could buy one myself and rent it out to you guys what would you be willing to pay for a guaranteed hour or two of killing someone else's motor? Just a thought.
CG... Noooooooooooooo.
Try this little experiment in the scooby, using a stopwatch...
Put the car in first gear and set off using just the clutch, no accellerator...
Dip the clutch
start the stopwatch
slot her into second
wait until the stopwatch reaches around 12 seconds
quickly release the clutch in a very uncomfortable lurch...
Repeat until bored
Then cancel the order for the rollerskate

The Smart really is a good solution to CG's situation. 70mpg, tiny, agile, cheap to run/insure/tax. She's a mobile hairdresser, so all her mileage is pottering around scrappy streets all day. If a sports car won't do, then she wants something silly.
The short list was....
1. late Puma 1.7 Lux £4500ish (high tax/ins, mediocre mpg, sporty/quick(ish))
2. Mini One (not cheap 2nd hand, might as well have new, so out really)
3. Smart (cheap everything, good residuals, cabriolet fun in a silly way)
4. A French diesel thing
After all, she has access to the Scoob for real fun

Hmmm...
Choice of cars for hairdresser...
MX5
Boxster
CLK (or is it SLK, never sure)
A class (Big Smart?)
TT cabrio
STi (flamesuit on)
or for a really flash one, S2000
All 'hairdresser' cars (Hope she's gonna take this post with a pinch 'o salt)

Morning people...
Bl00dy hell, 3 pages in 12 hours...
Ok, in light of the busy year ahead, I am inclined to agree that a trip to somewhere like the Nurburgring would be better suited to next year. A few reasons why:

Ok, in light of the busy year ahead, I am inclined to agree that a trip to somewhere like the Nurburgring would be better suited to next year. A few reasons why:
- Al will have time to convince his wife that a T25 should be their next car
- Gives many people (me included) this year to sort wheels/suspension/brakes, etc.
- Planning for a sizeable group to do a run like this probably does require about 12 months to plan anyway. Let's get it right!
- We seem to have plenty to be getting on with this year anyway!
- These monthly meets seem to come round so fast, spring/summer next year will fly by
- Plenty of time to extract track information from a few Nurburgring video files I have and compile some pace notes It is nice to know where to brake from 155mhp, into a slow corner. Well pointed out Phil!
Cheers
Simon

Dave - yup I do have e-mail elerts on Mate - but it only sends you one 'till the next time you revisit.... So, I didn't wake up to an inbox full
The track car idea is interesting BTW. It raises questions such as insurance though. Any driver (for to and from circuit), because there are bound to be occasions when we'd want to 'try it out' on the road.
Who would look after it - ie. housing/garaging it, fettling it, washing it.... We can have a 'sink fund' for parts etc, but some of the other issues could be logistical 'fun'.
Anyway - I'm in favour. Deffo not trying to be negative, just pointing out the potential cons to balance out the undoubted pros....
Off to get a much needed black coffee......

I've posted a loose guideline for event organisation and holding and summarised all requests and ideas for events, trips and jolly jaunts in the WYIOC Events forum.
