slower after PPP
But just look at and feel the torque delivery of a PPP car - on the dyno plot you cite the PPP car has one tenth of the mileage of the bleed valve car and is still superior in terms of torque curve. Albeit it should be for the cost of PPP!
I have seen lots of cars with STD ECU's running with 16-17 lbs on the Rolling roads and the fueling seems OK. This is without bleed valves My MY98 boosted at 16-17lbs when it was STD and the fueling was OK. A few times it also hit overboost as most MY98's did.
Horror stories with Bleed valves? The only ones I have heard are the Superchip ones but there chip removes the overboost cut out. So if you play with the valve you could get well over 20lbs of boost. Without the chip and just the bleed valve your safety limits are still in place.
As some might know by now that I have THE lowest powered MY00 in the country. My dealer let me borrow another MY00 with the PPP to see the difference in power. I was expecting a lot of gain as you can imagine because the difference was likely to be huge. Well it felt a bit quicker, it had a strange exhaust whooshy sound but overall it didn't shout "spend £1700 right now". I still haven't experienced a very quick UK scooby and beleive me I've tried a few. Even the P1's aren't massively faster on track (sorry lost the thread there).
Perhaps I'm looking for a Felstead 'plastic pig' sort of quickness to be impressed, guess I'll always be dissapointed then.
I do like the sound of the crude and cheap blead valve thingy though, because I'm poor but want to go faster....
F
PS for the record, the fastest scoob I have experienced was a Bob Rawl'd STI type R - this had REAL punch and electric pick up.

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone for their advice and help esp Bob and Theo for their off line help. Massive e-mails with tons of experienced advice!
I am going to come down to PE on Saturday and get it tested. Look out for me i'll be there hopefully for 9:30 reg T555 *** blue mica my99, gold speedline 17".
To be honest I think I must have had an overboosting car. But yesterday i floored it in 3rd and was at 100mph at 7000 rpm and it just felt like I didn't really need to change gear. It was a unique experience that I haven't yet been able to re-create. This was running on texaco sul.
I am looking forward to meeting you all if not a little nervous meeting so many people that already know each other. Still as you have all said the only way to my mind at rest is to do the rr.
Anyway, see you there....graphs to come!
Cheers ta,
Paul

I am not sure really how to start this or rather put the finishing touches on it! I guess I should say hello and thanks to all the people I met at PE today. Esp Bob L for introducing me to everyone and Bob R for fixing my car!
So stuck it on the rolling road and the best it could do was 210 BHP and 185 lbs/ft torque.
. This was so far the worst of the day. Further analysis by PE showed that my max psi was 8 psi,
. No diagnostic errors though. PE said it looked like the 8psi (Actuator pressure) was triggering the solenoid but nothing was getting through, possible blockage?
Here is me convincing myself its me and now I have definitive proof.
Anyay was introduced to Bob Rawles who asked it he could have a look. He spent about 1 minute looking at it and told me he could fix this in seconds. Somehow Prodrive, and it has to be as it went there o.k., kinked the outlet tube from the solenoid 90 degrees. I suppose this could have been my dealer but I can't see it since they weren't asked to touch anything else. To me it looked like it could have been kinked whilst putting the intercooler tubing on. I am not mechanical minded at all and wouldn't have known to look for this it was kinda hidden away. Anyway bob straightened it and i took it for a run up the road. What a difference!
Stuck it back on the rr, thanks again PE, and this time it got 15.5 psi and 241 bhp/241 LBS torque. The comparison on the graphs is ridiculous. I can't scan them till Monday but i'll post them when I can.
So I am very disappointed in Prodrive, who are supposed to be the professionals in this game for handing me the car back in this condition and for my dealer for not being able to tell the difference between an under performing scoob and a ppp one. Not even just under performing either but running at half boost! I have only been driving a subaru for 6 months and i can tell the difference! However I do have proof and will be raising one hell of a fuss on Monday and will probably not be using this dealer again depending on the reparations they are prepared to give me.
Is anyone from Prodrive prepared to comment about the testing done on cars after the upgrades have been done. Don't get me wrong I love the car now but really I shouldn't have had to go through all this trouble to prove that something was wrong. Also my dealer should have listened to me and put a select monitor on to check. But they just drove it and said it was o.k. I have trusted them too much and been too lenient.
So I drove it home with a massive grin on my face and the car is gggrrreat! Thanks again to absolutely everyone involved in my little adventure. I'll be coming to some meets now I know some of you.
Cheers

Another happy customer Bob has put the bill in the post.
Nice to meet you Paul. Perhaps you should deduct the price of the Rolling Road and fuel to get the car sorted. Oh and Bob’s bill of course.
Highlight of the day was seeing your face after Bob done the business and you came back from your testing.

Hi Bob!
Yep I tried to act cool as I strolled across the road but I couldn't hide my smile. I have been loosing sleep over it, muppet! I could tell with just two pushes of the pedal that things were back in action. can't really thank Bob enough, he was geuinely interested in seeing what the fault was, which is far more than I can say about my dealer.
P.S. did you manage to starve Michael or what?

Paul, I'm really glad things were sorted out. The Scooby community can be great at times, and this has been proven to you I guess
The resident guru (sorry Bob
) has found a blocking of the pipe to the boost solenoid ... so the actuator was seeing the full boost and decided to open at 0.5 ish bar boost ...to be honest, it shocks me that he had to find it, and your dealer or any other company that worked on your car missed it
But then again, I *did* mention the boost gauge LOL
All meant in fun,
Theo

Michael fell asleep on the motorway and woke just before Membury telling me to stop there. Never seen people stuff burgers and chips into there mouths like he can. Never mind perhaps the cafe will be open next time.
So what did happen to the bacon rolls? Is that why the price of the run went down a fiver cause we had no rolls?

Theo,
no you are right, I now have a boost gauge fitted over the weekend. I am a bit dissapointed I didn't look for it myself cause if you remember in the first post I did say I felt like it was running on low boost. So logically I should have checked the pipes. I didn't however know it was 8psi until the rr. Then everyone tells me this is the actuator pressure. Obvious checks really.
as for my dealer they didn;t look at it at all. They just drove it and said it felt o.k. After readjusting myself to the car this weekend I really can't believe that. Its completely different!
My biggest problem is knowing where everything is in the engine. Although I am quickly learning. With the absense of the haynes manual I can only go on what people tell me. Is there a link that has a detailed print out of the impreza engine and where all the sensors are?
Bob, tell Mc Michael I said hi

Adam I did look out and asked a few people but everyone denied knowledge of knowing you
. Need badges or something. I'll make sure I introduce myself next time.
Anyway can someone post this jpeg for me cos I haven't got a fecking clue. I presume i need to upload it somewhere? Well I haven't got anywhere without spending loads of time looking for some space.
Cheers.

Paul,
Glad you got it sorted, but also a little disappointed not to have met you and also perhaps seen your face when the new results came in.
My own car was a let down, but seeing others get what they wanted really does cushion the blow. Especially Andy tang, and also Bob (P1).
Have to thank Bob too for our excursion. The cra had been hesitant on boost and I was a touch concerned, but a quick (and somewhat lucky to be showing the symptoms) run around the block showed that the plugs were not up to much!
I will say to everyone, please bear in mind, that it was a damn hot day, my under bonnet ambient was showing 34 degrees, with the fans blowing. Intake temps at 1.3 bar fell just short of 50 degrees which was very pleasing.
Needless to say a re run in november should yield even better results!

Common problem Adam has

Sseriously Paul, we spoke, we were discussing what Fuel you were using just before I put my car on the Dyno. If you had asked me, I could have pointed Adam out to you seeing as I came with him....

Nice to know your cars running good now Paul
Had my MY00 Prodrived and to be honest with you the mid range is far superior than a normal scoob, thats where it counts, i know people say about bleed valves etc but the PPP has a much wider powerband and is actually more ecenomical to boot!!
You also dont have to push the car as much and the in gear acceleration is much improved as a gs300 found out last night
Power wise.... i may have gained a second performance wise to 100mph but the delivery is just soooooooooooo much smoother
Is it worth the 1700 quid i paid?
Yes it is for i now can and have outpaced wrx's in the mid range
(low down, no doubt they would kick *** higher up the range but low down torque is what you really need
)

I had an MY98 which I recently sold to John Stevenson on the BBS and I had the full PPP with a standard down pipe, Piper Cross induction kit and a back box and the car was producing 244 BHP and 295 ftlbs torque and peaked at 1.6 bar and never hit over boost while I had it. To answer the original question the PPP made a massive difference to the cars overall performance.
