ScoobyNet3! - A new begining!!

Suresh!
Please... - you don't have to pay. You will get pretty much all the facilities you now have without contributing. People will have the opportunity to contribute and get some perks for doing so!
What is wrong with that?

These addition seem very good but its at a cost, something like this should be put to a vote, if you are not paying you are now gettin less, this is an enthusiast site where ppl talk or chat about a particular car, there is now a large number of scooby site's available and scoobynet putting price's on certian things is just gonna push ppl away.
All i say is i hope it keeps to its enthusiast route's and not go down the max power route (sorry max power) which is what i think this change will ensure thankfully but i think the number of posts will drop and number of general members.
Sorry, but thats my view.
Blitz.

Mick,
As a matter of fact I *would* probably pay for Scoobynet as I think it is a great resource. Will paying customers finally get a decent search facility ?
I am only objecting to a commercial venture being dressed up as a community enhancement. "genuine community spirited members" describes those who have paid the required fees. Fact. Therefore anyone who hasn't paid is by definition neither genuine nor community spirited.....

I maybe wrong (and correct me if I am Suresh), but I think Suresh may have been miffed at the use of the word "true" describing those who support SN.
i.e. if you pay, you are a true supporter. If you don't ......
Doesn't read well for those members who have contributed (for the benefit of us all) years of knowledge and experience for FOC.
Perhaps we should vote that certain individuals become honorary members for their previous services to the community?
Simon,
Would it be possible to create personal views of SN. I lke viewing all the forums, but I'd prefer it if certain ones could be added/removed. e.g. you could view all forums, except the Muppets (sorry to pick on the Muppets again).

True supportive community member = anyone willing to contribute to your coffers.
---
In addition
To save us all time, I will state this clearly, and delete any posts from people who have not read this bit, and still have the misunderstanding.
Nothing is being taken away from non-paying members. Additional services are being added which you can pay for if they are of interest to you.
----
Thank you for all the support guys!! Keep the feedback coming.
All the best
Simon

The cost of an annual membership is peanuts compared to what we spend on our cars. I have been a Plus member for some time and it has saved me money in the shop. Now we will be getting even more for our pennies, well that's those of us who are already members.

Sounds good, cheque will be in the post. I have some slight reservation about the "reputation" system, will need to see it in operation before being able to assess it's benefits.

Have been a net plus member since I joined Scoobynet, £25.00 seems a small amount to pay considering I paid 1000 times that for my car.
Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to becoming a Super Muppet

Excellent ideas - am definately going to become a "Plus Member" with all the extra you get for the money, but surely SuperMuppets should be more like 500 or 1000 posts per year?

all sounds good to me Simon just a quick question though:
Avatars & signatures - i'm fine with them down the left hand side, but let's not have them under every post, scrolling past inane rubbish can be so tiresome i realise they can be turned off but to what extent?

The reputation stuff... great idea if a method could be found that works, but I'm not convinced such a thing exists!
I was wondering if there could/should be an additional weighting based on the 'worth' (i.e. rating) of the voter? Someone with "one star's worth" point of view is presumably worth less to the community than someone with 5, so the 5-stars type should carry more weight?
Dunno...
It's also quite likely to only help those who haven't been around for long, or are actually 'new' (at which point the system might not make sense anyway) as after kicking around here for a while, you get to know people anyway

Great idea re weighting based on users reputation. We'll look in to that.
Avatars and sigs can be switched off completely. For instance.. if you do not like avatars, you can switch them off so they will not appear at all while you are browsing scoobynet.
Thanks again guys!!
Sorry for short replies, time is really limited.

It would be great if you could pay for ScoobyNet Plus membership via PayPal - would make things easier for some (including me).
Sent off my cheque for ScoobyNet Plus membership yesterday

Wot no Sharking forum? awwwwwwwww, I was hoping for a SuperShark status
Seriously though, very good plans there Simon, I seriously like the idea of modding ones own threads.
Can one take credit card payments for Plus membership?

Simon,
Re: the 'reputation' system - what's it actually for? Can we, for example, filter search results by the reputation of the poster? Can people with a good reputation earn anything (like free 'plus' membership for a while)?
I still think it might be worthwhile to be able to rate posts, rather than people. New people will always have good stuff to contribute, it would be good to be able to rate their posts to make them easier to find.
I'm not 100% convinced by the idea of weighted votes for someone's reputation based on whether the voter has a high score or has paid for Plus membership - sounds like it could create a bit of an old-boys' network. It may be worth the experiment, but I think 1 person 1 vote (or maybe 1/2 a vote for Super Muppets? ) would be fairer.
Glad to see hear about some of these cool ideas at last, though

I had thought about the "old boy network" thing myself, however, over the four years I've been here, I've given practically **** all back to SN, so feel it's probably time to become a plus member, and this is coming from somone who is going to mainly use the membership for posting as I no longer have a subaru.
Will cliques (sp?) be created? maybe, and the supermuppets will no doubt berate the 'lesser' muppets lol, but hey, that's part of the fun
Seriously though, I don't think it'll be that much of a problem.
So, how long before I become a SuperMuppet Moderator then? lol

Spooks - I suggest you read the first post again, the forum as it stands now will be free, so there is nothing being 'lost', it's the NEW stuff that is appearing that would require membership.
