Hmmm your first post and you're after the pipes....... and a guy just reported he had his hybrid core stolen off his car a few days ago. Coincidence. I hope so... if not i'd personally like to rips your limbs off and jam them up your **** .

If you did get the core in an honest manner please ignore the above.

Tony - I've not seen the other post - That's NOT good -

rpsegura - if you're genuine don't take any offence - but if you could provide a bit more info - like where you had the core from.......

In defence off rpsegura he said he bought a FMIC like yours. He never said it was a hybrid FMIC core.

I understand why people came to there conclusion. Think its just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I had a hose clip come off yesterday during a track session at Castle Combe. Running at 1.5 bar and was alerted after a few laps of the second session by a hissing sound. First session was fine, except for running out of brakes .

Anyway ended the session early and crept off track, upon inspection one of the clips was dangling on the pipe work a few inches from the silicone coupler. I imagine the silicone ballooned and pushed the clip off? I know it was fairly tight as I had this section off in the preceeding days.

Then today, needed to remove the pipe work again and snapped a clip bolt. Managed to make a new stainless steel one with some M6 studding and welded a nut to it. This should be stronger so I'll probably replace the lot.

Thought you might like to know and watch for this too.

Houghton - which clip (obviously all prone, but maybe some more than others...)

Miki - Impressive result - It'll be Turbo/pump/injectors for me next, but that'll need a remap, so I'll be putting them all on at once..... (£££££££££!!!!)

Fitted a grille over mine yesterday and sorted the number plate out - I'll get some photos and put them up...

It was the joint on the RHS where the turbo pipe meets the IC pipe. That's the only place where the pipes don't align exactly. As for the snapped bolt, maybe H/T bolts would do the job better but it may not be too easy finding any with the correct length of thread.

Good quality Jubilee clips (ie stainless steel Jubilee brand) should hold no problem at 1.5bar.

Well they do on my car (but that's only 1.45 bar).

hmm- maybe not a problem on mine yet anyhow - since fitting the intercooler I'm only making 1.05 bar peak anyhow !

Not sure if this is because the gauge is reading lower, due to the cooler temps or if its cos my up-pipe is leaking - possibly a bit of both...

The car was showing 1.2 peak before, with F/C at 1.4 -

Mark

PS _ Andrew - I've tried FWB for a bolt but come up with zero- so I'll try that web site you posted

Mark, are you going to Scooby Shootout?

I can bring a bolt along if you are, or pop one in the post if you PM me your address.

Andrew - cheers mate - I've ordered one from your recommended web site - but if I have any probs, I'll let you know and you can send me one - (it should be here in the next day or so) -

Any ideas re: my lower boost ? - I'm getting the up-pipe fitted a week on Saturday, so should narrow it down then,

Thanks,

Mark

What are you controlling boost with?

Could be a simple leak in the pipework - I had a couple when I first fitted the Hybrid, wouldn't boost past 1.0bar and seemed laggy, mind you a slipping clutch didn't help!

Its all ECU based - I ditched the dawes when I had the Power Engineering re-map done. With all the noise from the induction kit, I wonder whether I'd be able to hear a leak on the hybrid pipework - (I assume that's where you mean)...

How did you check/track down the leaks ?

Have you had the boost control parameters tweaked since fitting the Hybrid?

I just made sure the hoses and clamps were past the swages on the pipes and made them f'ing tight. I think the culprit was the DV takeoff. The difference was instantly noticeable.

I've not had it mapped since the hybrid went on - its ~ 600 quid for another map and I'd need to take a day off (another 350 quid) to get the car to PE.

Therefore, I'd decided to run with the hybrid unmapped until I can afford to replace turbo, injectors, fuel pump and reg - then get a map - all at once, as I can't afford to keep re-mapping at ~ a grand a pop !

This means that I've not been able to check the boost, other than the gauge. It also means I'm probably not getting the most out of it, but I'm only running a TD04 anyhow, which was already mapped at 281 brake, so probably at its limits...

I'll check the DV (I had to make some hoses out of old ones) - I'm sure the others are OK, using your style of check -

The DV is the original 98 plastic re-circ, so I cut the old Samco hose to make a straight vertical I/C pipe to DV pipe and used the old original DV hose (and the size changing section) to make the other DV pipe (which is horizontal)

Hope this makes sense...

I did the same as you initially with the std 98DV and I am sure it was leaking (not the DV itself, but the hoses).

Your boost control will need tweaking to get it to achieve it's target. Surely its not £600 for them just to remap it?

I'll get some measurements for the hoses and see if I can get some decent ones from demon tweeks ...

Before I bought the Hybrid, I spoke to PE wrt: re-map. Its on an hourly basis, so I guess its possible that the map may take less time if they're only re-tweaking the boost, but the current map is a 'standard' off the shelf jobby, rather than a custom one. Unfortunately, its still a day off job, so can't avoid that cost - I'd originally hoped that the fitment wouldn't be detrimental, so could justify not having it mapped until later - if its going to be down on boost that might not be the case....

Currently buying new disks/pads and just bought that up-pipe, so can't justify another trip just yet -

From a technical point of view, why will the boost be down ?

Boost may be down because of many reasons, fitting the FMIC changes the charge air flow characteristics and so the wastegate solenoid duty cycles have to be altered accordingly.

You may of course have a leak causing boost loss or the pipework and core may be more restrictive than your previous setup (more than likely if it was an OEM MY98 TMIC with Samco hosing).

Yikes - Our 'conversation' has made me look at things a little more closely -

Not sure if its been like this since it went on (probably) but....

WOT in 3rd, 4th and 5th shows the boost climb to 1bar pretty quick, with blue light on AFR. Then, the boost can pulse between 1.2 and 0.8, usually holding around 0.8-1.0. However, the pulses are not smooth, the boost increases and then quickly drops, as though I've backed off slightly

Also, at this point i.e. the boost is not increasing or not holding at >1, the AFR decreases, sometimes going red !

I'm not sure if this can be put down to a leak - I guess if the pipe is intermitently leaking, it may just go under sustained boost, which might upset the mixture, but I'd have thought it would go rich, not lean....

Any ideas ? It certainly seems to show only under high boost in upper gears, and I cant see where it may be leaking (looking for signs of any dirt coming from the pipes) except on the DV, but only on the NON-IC side, where the pipe is cut badly and the clip is only half covering it -

Andrew - I've raised a sep. thread on the above...

Also, my bolt is here, fits, but is too long, so I'll get my hacksaw on it.....

Thanks,

What atmo dump valves do you guys recommend to use with this kind of setup (Hybrid FMIC)? I'm currently running max 1.25bar boost, but I might go a bit higher in the near future, i.e. the dump valve would have to bee good for something like 1.4-1.5bar... and it doesn't hurt if it's f***ing loud as well....
