Just waiting for my Type R
Hi There
Sorry for the slight hijack... but I have just bought a V5 Type R and could do with a bit of advice really...
I do quite a lot of miles and usually need to fill up every couple of days, so Im just concerned about being caught short IE running out of octane boost.
Is it worth getting it mapped for UK fuel, if so, will it have any impact on performance... improve it/make it worse?
Also, I notice its got an induction kit on it, would it be wise to replace the MAF just as a precaution and put the original airbox back on.. also, do you think a Knocklink and AFR monitor would be a sensible addidition?
I wont be picking it up for about 2 weeks.... its gonna be a very looooong two weeks!!
Cheers

jay if you've got a version 5 you can get it tek'd so you can get it mapped for uk fuel and a bit more think its around £700 but atleast you don't need to faf about with octain booster, so you'll save in the long run.
you'll be filling up even more then with a type r
where did you get it from?

Oh great!
Well, dont suppose I bought it to get good MPG!
I have bought it from Mackay Trading... bit of a pain in the @ss to deal with and quite pricey but they have the car I want... really good spec, I have since been informed that theres a good chance its a RA or V-Ltd due to the roof vent? Any thoughts?
Cheers

I was also under the impression that the RA was lightened more than the R?

dan it the non v-ltd that has the short ratios as mine is and has the 80mph@4k rpm 5th gear. the v-ltd has a 5th gear that is more suited to motorway crusing.
i think the ra's are slightly lighter if you get one without the air/climate control, non electric windows/mirrors, air bags etc but i think most car are speced up with these options so theres little in the weight though i would say the type r is lighter due to less doors

So does that mean the only way I can tell for sure is to get to 80mph and see what the rpm is? (supose I could get the jap paperwork translated )
Just got it booked in to get the Apexi Power FC unit put in and mapped, have any of you guys had this done?

What power mods (if any) have you done Mike?
Also, is there anything I should know about with regards to keeping my eye on that they are prone for (other than just the usual stuff associated with any scoob turbo)?
Sorry for the 1001 questions
Cheers

no problem jay. i would also get a knock link and lambda link just to keep an eye on things.
my car has a few mods uprated aps tmic, aps cold air induction, full decat exhaust, link ecu with 3 port boost solanoid(sp),fuel pump, brembo 4pots with 320mm discs, eibach springs on std dampers, bump stear mod, 17 inch wheels. it rinning a conservative map with a 1.4bar peak boost, if i change the fuel reg i could run more boost with a remap, it made 296bhp with 280lb feet torque
mike
just to add-
if you drive it hard cheack the oil regular and use a good quality fully synthetic oil

Mike are those just 'normal' Eibachs?
Always thought about getting these but put off when stated not for STi's let alone Type R's.
Do they lower the car at all and whats the handling like?

richie the ride hight to me looks prity much std and it seem to handly very well though it can be a little tail happy in the wet and especialy on roundabouts, all the mods came on the car so i'm not 100% sure if they are sti or regular, the ride with the std dampers is very good, though its not low enough for me. thinking about whiteline flat out springs which are a tarmak spec spring an drop it between 35-50mm or the mrt one that drop 45mm. had coil over on my old car but can't be arsed to spend that much on them and end up faffing about setting them up

I have the progressive Eibach springs on mine (UK Turbo though), and they have lowered the car by about 20mm, nothing too noticable, and they're quite tame really IMHO... very comfortable for cruising, do the biz under heavy load, reduced the roll on mine but there is still a noticable roll until they load up a bit.
Hope that helps...

I'll be fitting a Knocklink straight away, its been suggested that after the remap I shouldnt really need a Lambda link? As for mods, I'll probably just go down the decat route. Cant seem me going mad (famous last words!)...
...well, at least until I have got the hang of the dccd!!

I had to price mine to sell so to speak but it went fast and I have put 32000 miles on in less than 12 months, so you could argue I've had value for money.
34K... very nice, I've gone for a low miler as well (after much searching), thats what put me off the new era one... I do tons of miles
Have you put a deposit down? The place where I have got mine from have just sold another two door aswell, apparently they're in quite big demand at the mo. Any pics btw?
