Fill up to MAX again... note Litres.

Divide mileage by litres.. then multiply by 4.546 (l/g)

e.g

200 miles / 45L * 4.546 = 20.20mpg

If you don't use it (or get the car remapped for UK fuel), you are running greatly increased risk of the engine spontaneously (and expensively) combusting, as the knock correction on most JDM cars simply isn't designed to cope with our pump petrol.
Similarly buying a car that has been used for a while in the UK on pump fuel alone and without a KnockLink fitted is a big risk, as it might have been detting itself to the point of oblivion.

it's a worry that people can remember to divide by 4.546.
why not multiply by a slightly more memorable 0.22?
whats more, this is do-able on a ***-packet when bored in a service station having just emptied your wallet on optimax.

Much easier than all these methods, if you want a very close approximation.

Now: 25 mpg is as near as makes no difference 5.5 miles per litre. Providing you started with a full tank and have now refilled to the cut-out - divide the miles by the litres and see how close to 5.5 you are! (or 5.0 in an STi).

In ordinary use Scoobs should do around 25 mpg (5.5mpl), STis (7&8)about 22.5 (5.0mpl), i.e 10% less.

And for most Scoobs ordinarily driven, the fuel light will come on around 250 miles for STIs and 275 for ordinary Turbos (i.e. @ 50 litres used out of 60).

Yep, of course there'll be exceptions - but the above is a useful rule of thumb for most 'everyday' users.

1 UK gallon = 4.54596 liters. The easiest way is to say 5 liters = 1.1 gallons (this is accurate to better than 0.015%) which is much better than either your odometer (mileage meter) or the garages fuel pump.

Calculations are then easy

Number of miles since last fill
MPG = ------------------------------- !
Number of liters X 0.22

I've got a spreadsheet (123 and Excel formats) which calculates it all for you.

You just drop in the current mileage, cost and number of litres, and it works out all sorts - MPG, average MPG, MPL, L/100KM, etc, etc, etc .....

Easiest way i reckon is run it to the warning light and i always put in 27.24 litres,6 gallons,set ya trip and hope for 120 miles before ya c ya light again if ya lucky you'll c 150 on a run,never fill it to the top cos if it gets nicked there gonna have some fun.
