Version 7 loom all over the floor......OK who cut the OBDII diagnostic port out the loom? Come on, own up, I said own up..... DOH!

shandy
Go to the whisky.... Mmmmmm!
Well the 6 speed box is now installed, the old gearbox used to flap around on the mounting but the new one doesnt with the Group N mount
Interesting though, there seems to be more electrical connections on the new one compared to the old one.
Will try and get some piccies....

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
conrad.. I posted pics ages ago..
Use the loom from the old box...
reverse and neutral switch + vss sensor is only needed. (ahh mental block.. new ecu.)

Theoretically though...everything should match up, new ECU, loom & matching gearbox
I hope.
Paul, checked ECU pinouts, nothing obvious, will know more when engine goes in tommorow and look is all plugged in, spare wires for the gearbox hopefully.

Ermmmmmm......
New Clutch & Flywheel fitted this morning
Engine lifted into place and bolted up nicely on the new Group N mounts.
Problem no 1:
Old Speedo Drive is Mechanical and New Gearbox is Electronic.... DOH!
I can feel this so called MINIproject within a project is going to get bigger day By day....
STi 7 dashboard here we come.
Piccies to follow.

ooh Look.... Version 7 STi Motor & Box in a Classic Wagon

and another...
6 Speed box, sensor for..... and the dipstick hole, dipstick away for grinding

Another engine shot...
Engine in, Now time to fit the new age inlet manifold - Reversed

Voila... wiring adjusted to make idle control, map sensor and throttle pot wiring reach the new positions of the sensors.
Hangover kicking in, got the shakes, need a beer to stop it

Oh Bollocks....Certainly looks like the new age manifold will catch the bonnet from this angle!
**** it, will cut another hole in the bonnet!

I really don't want to go to all the trouble of fitting a new dash.

you could use a jap wrx speedo cable.. then wire the existing speedo output from the clocks to the new ecu..
Will explain via phone if its easier conrad.
or fit uk clocks

Update:
Been overseas so things moving a little slower,
Decided to get all the ancillaries fitted that will be on the big engine and make sure everything fits. Also need to make a template for the wastegate takeoff on the slip jointed uppipe.
Gruppe-S Headers fitted, Slip jointed uppipe fitted, Turbo fitted
, downpipe fitted, new full exhaust system fitted.
Ahh yes, No room what so ever for the large Turbosmart external wastegate, its going to be tight.
Piccies to follow......
Going to worry about the speedo problem after I've got the engine running
Bonnet clearance shouldnt be an issue, I can always mill the tumbler housings a bit smaller.

This week......
1. 6 Speed Gearbox is being fitted
2. Paddle clutch is being fitted
3. Propshaft is being shortened 60mm.
With the length of time the BIG engine is taking to get built I have decided to undertake a small project to get the car up & running. We are going to fit the STI Version 7 Engine (That I was trying to sell to no avail) into my wagon this week complete with STI Version 7/8 Wiring and ECU (to control the AVCS). It will be supported with the large intercooler / radiator assembly as seen above, a TD05 turbo and new up-pipe and down pipe.
Hopefully by Friday the engine and box transplant should be complete and all bolted up with the new Group N / Prodrive mounts.
Additionally, to run the big intercooler I am going to turn the new age inlet manifold round so the throttle body faces the front of the car, this will require a spool piece making up to change the angle of it and stop it catching the bonnet. Hopefully this will get done this week also.

Aquired the dashboard, wiring, diagnostic port and clocks from MY03 STi so hopefully problems will be avoided
