I did the Palmersport day with my g/f as she got it free when she bought a 2.2i VX220. I paid for the day, wasnt cheap but tbh it was one of the best trackdays I've done. The VX220 turbos are amazing on the track and although the driving position is a bit cramped (I'm 6'2") it was still an awesome day which I would have no hesitation recommending to anyone.

The VX turbo's are top class and dont let any badge snobbery stop you enjoying what is a superb drivers car.

Let me see now, the VX220 Turbo will have around 220bhp and weigh's about 940kg, STI or EVO weigh around 1360kg.

Bhp per ton VX220 is around 240, and for Evo or STi it is 207.

So which will have the best acceleration ?

Not forgetting the torque spread for the Vx is mainly between 2-3000 revs which is where you need it.

The acceleration thing is deceiving as when I swapped from my 2000T to the NA VX it didn't seem as quick at the scoob, but after a few months of getting used to it and bedding the engine in it gives a std scoob a real run for its money, I have a wrx 01 now and it still feels just as quick if not quicker than the scoob.
As for the VXT only a 300bhp+ scoob will keep up in std trim, and like I said with the 260bhp conversion you'll probably find no scoobs keeping up full stop...0-60 4 secs, 0-100 <10 secs and in gear accelleration is staggering so I'm told
I want one...shame I dont have the cash at the mo

John.

QUOTE:
The Chassis is the same but thats about it, different dampers, springs, tyres, engine, gearbox, clutch, PAS, ABS need I go on..........

I have never slated it, I think the Turbo is very good, not my cup of tea and the name means a lot to me and others who grew up watching them on TV. The only Vauxhall I remember is John Clelands Cavalier doing battle with the old Bimmers, great fun to watch, but it didnt make me want to own a Vauxhall when I was older.

I test drove VX22, the Turbo, S2 standard, S2 111S, S1 160, S1 111S, standard S1, so would say I am in a position to comment.
UNQUOTE:

That kind of reply I can appreciate. You have some knowlege to back up your claim of why it isn't the car for you.

My gripe is with idiots that write off the notion of it being any good simply because its a Vauxhall!?!?! They haven't driven it, probably only seen it in passing, but because its a Vauxhall, it's got to be junk!

I quite like Scoobynet, for every idiot on here, theres at least 20 sensible minded people that have a valid opinion.

But this is where Scoobynet gets right on my ****. Absolutely without fail, if a thread is started on the subject of a Vauxhall, whatever model it might be..... some 'bright' 'intelligent' spark will pipe up with that most useful and notorious response.... "Well it is only a Vauxhall!"

It was boring the first time, and its even more boring to hear it trotted out, again, and again, and again, and again!

i dont know how you can compare these cars ,they are built for completly different purposes,
subaru 4wd ,rally style ,5 seats usable every day!
vx 2 seat ,go-kart handling, its a weekend car!

and this its a vauxhall, dosent that mean cheaper parts ,reliability and cheap servicing.
Especially when in a recent survey ,average cost of a subaru warrenty claim(in the first 3 years )was over £1000 pound, and vauxhall was around £280!

Sorry to keep on about the acceleration. I know what the figures would suggest, but stick a VBOX in the cars and have a play, then you see the real story. J

What about the VXTurbo's engine? I guess it would be reasonably simple to get 30-40 additional horsepower from it? Then it would be utterly fast, no?

the vx engine is easy to tune, only restriction is it has a very small turbo, but for about £1500 you get about an extra 80bhp!
which isnt bad, on acceleration the vx is faster than a sti8!

Sorry, but this is utter bo11ocks .....but what do I know?

Oh yes, I sold a MY02 STi Type UK and bought a VX220 Turbo. Straight line acceleration 0>60 and 0>100 they are almost identical.

I did a 1 min 21.67 lap at Bedford in one of their VXT's. The STi PPP was timed at 1min 25.15. Enough said?

Oh, and whilst i've got the soapbox out the comments about getting mega bhp out of the VXT engine are totally wide of the mark too. Inlet charge temps are critical on this engine due to it being mid mounted, and you won't get more than 20 or 30 reliable bhp until rising inlet temps shut the boost down. You can only get up near the 260-270bhp mark by fitting a chargecooler, and any tuner that tells you you don't need one for this sort of power you should run a mile from

Paul (POC),
Why dont vauxhaul launch a sister brand? Same way BMW do with the Aplina beemers? That way they can launch and sell the VX under a different name, thus quashing stupid comments like "well it's still a vauxhaul snort snort snort"....... I assume they have a good reason for not doing this
The very reason Vauxhall created the VX was to get people back into the showrooms. Not many people actually end up buying a VX but apparently, their sales have shot up as a result, of their other mainstream models. Personally, I really can't see myself buying a Vectra after test driving the VX (which I did and thought was a fantastic bit of kit, nearly replaced the STi (drove the VXT)) but it would seem that this kind of advertising, which is what it effectively is, doesn't work on me.

To correct someone else, the figures off the top of my head are:

VXT 197bhp, 930kgs - 212bhp/tonne
STi 261bhp, 1470kgs - 178bhp/tonne
STi PPP 300bhp, 1470kgs - 204bhp/tonne

Matt

How about this then assuming you are using kerb weight.

VXT 197bhp, 930kgs - 212bhp/tonne
STi 261bhp, 1470kgs - 178bhp/tonne
STi PPP 300bhp, 1470kgs - 204bhp/tonne
P1 276 bhp, 1295kgs - 213.13bhp/tonne

Just a few point's to follow up on.

The EVO mag power to weight figures will be wrong because the engine has more that the stated 197 bhp. The engine power was understated to keep insurance low.

On average the Z20LET engine is putting out 217bhp.

AMD do a guaranteed mapping for the VX220T which gives 245bhp/250lb for £550 + vat. This is without the need for a chargecooler which so many people seem to think they need.

The upgrade includes a before and after rolling road session.

AMD did the preparation work for the VX220 Sprint car, so were given in depth information and tools to allow the best to be extracted from the car.

Each mapping is tailored to the car, and is not an off the shelf map like the other companies.

Regds,

Mantamagic

I said to get *270bhp* type numbers you need a chargecooler

Oh, and AmD did the development work on John Thorne's (Thorney of www.vx220.org.uk fame) car.
It was actually Courtenay that did the development work on Vauxhall's Sprint car

I don't think there's much denying that the VXT is fast.. The power to weight ratios are good compared to a subaru but even better if you add in transmission losses..

I quite like the look of the car but some of the colours do it no favours.. as for Vauxhall snobbery, in my company car days I did 100's of 1000's of miles in Vauxhalls and was never let down once. I like that experience. Personally if I was looking at that kind of car I would try one but my leanings would be towards the lotus as they have the sportscar image, which I think is part of what you're buying into. Still I'm too 'large' to get in either and my wallet is too small!

At 6'3" I can drive one all day. Getting in and out is no bother either you creaky old farts.

I do tend to sling the passenger foot rest out the window (when sitting in the passenger seat ) though. With it in I find my right knee rests on the gearstick, much to the owners annoyance.

Driving my mates NA VX is always something I look forward to. Much more fun than my Impreza, if nowhere near as quick in NA form.

Great cars.

I've also done the Palmersport day and thought the VXT was excellent. Great car, just not sure I'd pay £25k for one.
