Update on my project!

My post was only a bit of fun, hence editing out chaff.
Project is progressing steadily as far as I know, and I will leave it at that to not steal trout's thunder.

may-be grown into a 2.36
...if you have something to add that is constructive and useful then please feel free.
Not aware that my engine has grown! If you have some information that would lead you to believe that then please feel free to share it.
However if you would like to deal in facts - the pistons, piston rings and liners are exactly as they were when the engine very first turned over - so it is not possible that the capacity could have changed - unless there is something that I do not understand about swept volume calculations.
Otherwise - if all you have is cheap innuendo...
..back on topic - waiting for the engine to be installed - as I have been for several weeks. Personally very happy with where I am at present - all the various bits of custom pipework are coming together, custom hoses, etc. One or two bits of fabrication are still outstanding...but it all looks just about spot on

rannoch- I don't suppose its possible for you to record a soundbite of the car whilst on song, and then post a link up to it?
I'm dying to hear it after DW's glowing approval

David : Seeing as how it is the season of good will to all men and seeing how you have been waiting for weeks, Andy and I are prepared to come and fit or help you to fit your engine between Christmas and New Year. We have time on our hands and would not want any payment, just bed, food and drink for a couple of nights and our train fares or petrol money if we are bringing our own tools and kit. Cannot see it taking more than a couple of days, unless you think different and we should be able to get everything up and running for you to enjoy and fettle in the New Year. Let either of us know.

if the engine is built and complete , it should be a day job to get old out and new in, even with a few fitting changes, down pipe, inlet changes etc. knowing how andy works I am sure it would be running at the end of the day.
I can lend an engine hoist if it would help , if andy can transport it.
I and others , would love to hear that this engine is a goer too , from someone "outside the circle" , given the timings of this thread .

Harvey,
thank you for the kind seasonal offer. However the engine is already back in the car so I don't think I will be needing your help thank you. Anyway - the prospect of having to cough up for transport and lodging for you and Andy would probably cost more than what I am being charged.
Anyway - I thought you would be concentrating on your 'big build' since it was initiated nearly seven months ago - given you are getting a proven 585 with an open deck block - am really looking forward to seeing what your closed deck special will produce!

Cheers David:Petrol, two nights accomodation food and drink would not cost much for Andy and me and we would have thrown in the banter for free but if the engine is in then your hold up is resolved.
There is nothing for me to do in respect of my new engine at present as we have all the bits bar cam pulleys and fuel rails and it is down to Matt Clark to put it together when time permits. I have agreed for two 2.5s to come ahead of me and they should be very interesting. Different rods, pistons and a few other bits to make them go.
My deal with Roger Clarks was that they worked on my engine when there was no other engine building going on but I thought you knew that. Anyway,I think they have been flat out for months and I am in no hurry to have the engine. Not a lot of point at present really because while we have been hearing volumes about high power 2.33 engines since a year last Autumn it seems to have been hot air and nothing has appeared. There have also been rumours of 2.36 engines because of difficulties at 2.33 litres and of course John Banks now has a working engine courtesy of an American 2.5 litre short engine with his heads and ancilliaries transferred but I do not think it is a big power engine despite the capacity although it will be very torquey.
Anyway until other people start producing reliable and proven 600bhp results from whatever capacity then I can continue to rely on my venerable two litre.

Harvey,
So I see we are in the same position then. As I have well reported here that my car has been worked on as time permitted with my various suppliers. It is a shame that one or two people seem to think this is bad thing! Indeed one commentator seemed to think it was ludicrous!
In terms of this 2.36l stuff - the only source of rumours that I am aware of are those that know nothing about the 2.33l builds. I am not aware of any 2.36l cars - I am sure there are some - however my car is 2.33l as its original design intended.
In terms of producing a serious 600bhp, this will be possible. The turbo on mine, which produced 555bhp on the engine dyno, is the smallest Garrett that is sensible for this type of application, and it produced this power at relatively low levels of boost, 1.65bar from memory. The are much bigger turbos that will work with this set up - however I wanted the best compromise of driveability and overall performance.
It is also very questionable as to whether the bearings will stand this level of power. Anything over 500bhp if used in anger will seriosuly challenge longevity. And Per Eklund was running 625bhp years ago from a two litre, and had to change the bearings after every event.
This was the main reason he switched from Subaru to Saab - where the bearing wear was simply not a problem.

Look Mark,it is the season of good will to all men so if you do not want to enter into the spirit of things go **** on somebody elses bonfire. It was not addressed to you anyhow.
Now you have highlighted it, my understanding was that when you could not get John Banks engine right at 2.33 litre you had a go at 2.36 litre.

Maybe I misunderstood what I was told, in which case I will make a very public apology but on the other hand if it is true it is very clearly not humbug. Please explain because afterall you are the guy who can give us chapter and verse on John Banks engine for a start.
David: Thanks for all the info. I for one have never doubted yours is a 2.33 litre and I see nothing wrong with a slow build to save money but I thought that previously, immediately prior to Scooby Shootout, you were talking openly about having it ready for that event in September.
The coming year will be very interesting with us both chasing 600bhp+ and pressumably other builds coming on stream. I know of five 2.5s for sure, one high power, so it could get quite hard for me with my little two litres. Very interesting times because there is a lot to learn along the way and the new two litre is also exciting. Results from that will show whether I should then consider a bigger capacity for monster output.
Let me know if you fancy running back to back at Well Lane over the holidays or a convenient time at the beginning of the New Year.
Happy Christmas and bye bye for now.

Harvey,
Your "Christmas spirit" is plain for all to see. You seem incapable of posting, without making totally irrelevent comments, and petty very unsubtle snipes.
I suspect that when David does run his car on a RR, it will be somewhere that gives somewhat more reliable results and yes, I'm happy to qualify that comment on the bbs, if you really want me too !!
"Good will to all men" Pha... and when it comes to "pi55ing on someone elses bonfire", now I'm not the one who's been doing that, am I !!!!!!
Mark.

Look Mark,I have been perfectly polite and civil There is plenty good content in my posts. You have stepped in when you were not addressed and come back in a less than civil manner. If you want to qualify anything, start a new thread to keep this one free and anybody that does not want to read drivel can choose not to do so.
It was David I invited to Well Lane.Have you been appointed as his mouthpiece?

great to hear the engine is in the car now and working
I know I have stirred things up a bit in the past on your threads but I am glad to hear my suspisions have been wrong. I had wondered at times if your whole "update thread" was a diversion to "balance out" the news of JB's failures as they seemed to happen around the same time. no problem with this really since your friend uses the boards as a shopping window but then with all the stalling to follow , things started getting questionable.
I guess jb was just unlucky and people should at least have a bit more confidence that their build would work with yours and david wallis's both running well.
When are we going to have the big three rolling road shootout with DW, Harvey and Trout?

Harvey,
That's very generous of you. I hope you have a nice Christmas too. Maybe there is a Father Christmas
Wouldn't it be nice if we could be like this all the time, just being polite, and going about our own thing !!!
Maybe I should make that my New Years resolution.
Mark.

AFAIK.. it is working and running, if anything it will just need the map checking for the in gear boost control and launch control and SLS that they were mentioning..
