Possibly a stupid question, but if it's a lightweight, non load-bearing part, couldn't you use one of these super epoxy glues? JB Weld, or some such?
Just a thought - cheaper than £350 + labour!![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Cheers,
Steve

you wouldnt have to pull the fuse for the abs as it will see a fault itself because the ring is broken
i doubt you could weld it
i dont think it would upset the balance too much but it will be noticable
you will wreck the bearing getting it of so you would be better to get a new bearing too,
you dont want to do it twice do you?

just driven it round the block , slowly.
The abs cuts in quite severely no matter how hard i press the pedal.
Anyone know which fuse it is ? i'll pull it out and try it.

lookin at the pics, its an alloy ring...
you could weld it .....but it will be rotating at very high rpm
and the whole purpose of the abs sensor is to sit very close to this ring, and sense the proximity of the ring and its highs and lows... if this repair is not perfect, it may well burger up your abs sensor and then it wont detect jack!! the purpose of the abs sensor is so that when this lot stops moving, it thinks the wheel has locked up, and kicks in the abs... the missing bit is giving the same effect hence the abs bit when you brake normally...
get it wrong and the bit you rewelded could fly off at high speed, and do untold damage.... an **** up your hard work...
also if you disconnect the abs and have an accident, you could be in the poo from your ins co..
might it not be a cheaper option to get a sh/hub unit...

Ipalmer....if you get stuck and need to press it off give me a shout as i have access to a press(bonus of being a service manager for a garage![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
)
You can't weld it i am afraid as it needs to be perfectly shaped so the ABS sensor reads accuratly.

I would take expert advice on welding, but i would have thought an expert welder would make an servicable job of it ,i wouldnt worry about breakage afterwards, welding can be freekin' strong when done properly and the centrifugal forces should be pretty low(relativly) as its near the rotation centre

By the looks of the break in the ring it looks like a cast aluminium alloy. If so it will not take too well to welding and will distort too much. Sounds like alot of trouble, might be better to source a second hand part.
Good luck![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Misty............blue is the (2nd) fastest colour ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
.
and you know it !!!
only joking mate.
IMHO sonic/wrc blue is indeed the best colour BUT early WRX's never came in that colour so i went for silver (you can de-cat a MY93 for MOT legally).
Iain....see you at the meet monday .
