Derren Brown - nutter!

Never mind Paul Daniels catching a bullet in his teeth, think a about wht a the (Lovely) Debbie McGee must have to get her chops around occasionally, never heard her say 'its magic', just him saying, 'your going to like this, not a lot'........

i only watched the last 5 minutes but i was surprised that they didn't show you the sandbag that he shot to prove that bullet had actually come out. So there was a little bang - could have been anything. he built up the tension nicely though. especially the deliberate mistake.
#34
A good showman too, when he fired the gun at the sand bag on chamber 5 and it was empty he did a good job of looking like he was pooping himself (including watery eyes). I was trying to work out if it was real fear or part of the show. Donning my Scoobynet Cloak of Cynicism (TM) (available from Scoobyshop) it was obvious it was part of the act

Yep - should have shown where the shot went & should have shown what the geezer was doing under the table with the gun & what that guard thing was alla bout when he was handling it.
Also found it strange that they had daylight coming in the windows 'live' at 21:50... Could have been a load of lamps with daylight blue filters on, but that would be expensive and pointless???
GREAT pause though - really thought he'd lost it afterthat 'false' shoot to the sandbag!

...and daft to perform it anywhere

there was another fundamental flaw to this stupid faked stunt - the stooge/member of the public/helper/whatever was sat on the opposite side of the illusionist's head to the gun.
lets say it did go off - where's the bulet go when it leaves the illusionists head?? - if there is any chance of injury to joe public the producers would not let it happen.
....but there never was any chance of injury to joe public was there?
because the whole thing was a lame stunt

I thought it was really good... i really squirmed - so in terms of what he set out to do - be it a trick or not - it worked really well.
He does lot of things with people - where he convinces them to do something "subconciously"... i agree about the "one" word being repeated - he's done similar things in shopping malls etc.
Very clever - even if he was never at risk.
Take it on face value and it was really good.

Lame stunt or not it made entertaining viewing, had me laughing loads with him messing about with firing on chamber 5 and no round being fired and the acted look of fear on his face, quality
Very well staged and it had to be padded out, wouldn't have made good viewing would it if he had just said what chamber it was in to start with and fired it.

I noticed the light coming in through 1 of the windows whist the "stun" was taking place, I just presumed it was in russia or something or somewhere it might be light still but when it was going off and the credits was going it was showing the building on the outside and it was sure enough dark outside dont knwo what that was all about, I told the misses I wanted him to shoot himself, she was saying I was sick etc but as I said, thought it was all boring and pointless unless it went wrong. whoopy doodar, what have e got outta watching it knowing we could have easily been tricked
#46
Does it not make sense to shine light through the windows? If there was dark behind them they would have acted like a mirror with all those lights inside, this could be deemed to be distracting to the viewers.
All in all though, as has been said above real or fake it was good TV

yeah i noticed the light through the barn windows but thought maybe it was lighting from filming him outside.
i was sorta impressed, moreso by the earlier "tricks". but guessing a word someone is thinking off...hahha
and once he put the gun to his head i cringed...it was so fake looking, just grabbed it and click. the big pause etc was fake as he said if he wasn't sure he'd stop. as was the firing of 5 at the sandbag. it did freak me a bit as i had guessed #5!!!

I thought it was really good. The missus watched little bits of it here and there which meant she didnt really appreciate what had gone on before the final stunt.
Same old story in this country - people are always willing to disbelieve. I would love to go to one of his shows. The fact he tells you how he does it all makes it even more intriguing.

Cos no magic ever is, perhaps Jason?
Although if it was *purely* relying on reading a guy's voice patterns, with no BS involving the gun, or any code or whatever, then that took some nerve. We'll never know i guess...

im pretty sure it was for real. the man isnt an illusionist! or ever claimed to be! he has explained over n over how his "tricks" work. either hes a damn fine actor or that fear was real, the shield was explained so he couldnt see which chamber the bullet was in. under the table was not shown cuz if it was ppl could say he had an ear peice in or somat saying which chamber it was in.
why are u all so quick to fob somat like this off? i think ya jealous!

Magic doesn't necessarily mean illusion. I'm definitely not saying it was illusion. In fact, i didn't see it at all, seeing as i HATE watching things where i know the outcome beforehand! Jealous? LOL. He's a good entertainer, there's no doubt.
#57
The fact is no one here is ever likely to know what went on. I also think that if he came and did it in peoples living rooms with no cameras, a gun they had chosen etc etc then they still wouldnt believe it wasnt magic.

Just caught the last 5 mins of the show but that was the most intense thing I've seen on TV - his 'pause' before the last two shots was very very convincing imho.
Well done Derren

It wasn't magic and it wasn't an illusion.
He chose someone he knew he would be able to tell by covert suggestion to put the bullet into chamber one and that they would do it!
The person loading the gun was the most open to suggestion that Derren could find.
Simple, if you are skilled enough to manipulate people like that.
