You’re right, the CTR has exceptionally good brakes as standard and they're not even Brembo or anything. CCC mag did a 60-0 mph test a while back and it came out tops @ 2.59 seconds. A whopping 0.01 seconds faster (equating to 1m) than the Evo Extreme which had uprated 6 pot Alcons.
Traction wise the CTR doesn’t like the wet (or should I say the Bridgestones) so I can only imagine that the difference could be significant compared to a Scooby (plus the Scoob has an LSD). There’s been a fair amount of talk about Toyo T1-S’s solving much of the wet/traction issue though so all may not be lost.
FWIW I hope you don’t regret buying the car either as it’s a cracker IMO.

Dunk - 10th March?
Sorry, in answer to your question on P1 - would your magnex fit a DC5, I honestly don't know. Drop me a mail next time you are heading up this way and we can find out!
This may be of interest

Rich - Cheers. Meant the Blitz Sonic, but found out (read the box ) and it does fit the DC5, which is nice, so another new car option goes on the list Any chance you could email me some pics of your motor ? Some of the boring bits like the boot () and the interior front & back would be superb

BTW, Hondata flash looks interesting doesn't it. Still waiting for graphs of other peoples results before I take the plunge though.
Not sure if they've sorted the immobiliser probs yet either ?

Dunk,
Immobiliser problem wil be sorted soon.... they are just locating where the codes are sorted.
As for performance.... it is superb... VTEC comes in at 5300 and ends at 8600-8800 Much more drivability and the Vtec seems to go on forever!
If you get this you wont be caught out of gear anymore!
Toyo's change the car in the wet considerably... as well as substantially reducing road noise!

I got a 30th anniversy model CTR in black to replace my destroyed MY02.
Have to say I find the CTR easier to drive and live with every day. Much easier to drive around town etc, Dont seem as concerned as to where I leave it as much as I did with the Scooby.
To be honest it does not seem any slower than my MY02, but I seriously miss the wet weather grip of the Scooby, but not the amount of fuel it used to consume.
I will be swapping to Toyo's / Goodyear F1's / Federal's which get good reviews on civictype-r web site when the orig Brigstones wear out to reduce road noise and increase wet weather grip.
One downside I do find is that I dont partically think that the brakes are up to much, I seem to find the brakes seem to work well for one apllication and then genarally poor for the next press. Not partically progressive like in the Scoob!

wow ref the brakes comment above.... I read an article saying they out braked an Evo 8 with Brembo's/AP's 6pots by more than a metre....
I think the brakes are very good.... and also good on the second/third/fourth/fifth/tenth etc press...
Go get your brake fluid checked!

The CTR was not tested in the wet although the tyres were standard BS's (as were the brakes).
The test was carried out in Car & Car Conversions' annual "Modded Car of the Year" awards a few months back and used the legendary Stanley Wan's (legendary on the CTR forum anyway ) 240bhp CTR.
Interestingly (for me anyway) the modded Focus RS performed slightly (only slightly) worse than the CTR proving that the two cars can be made to perform quite equally with a bit of tweakery. Good news for me as the Focus is a superior (albeit more expensive) machine to the CTR IMO.
For those not keen on the dead steering feel Stanley seems to have gone some way to remedy the problem by carrying out some geometry adjustments. If anyone is interested in the article I can try to scan/upload. Just let me know.
Cheers peeps

I had arranged to buy a Type R - nearly sent the money to Denkmark to reserve when I did this one call to a Subaru dealer in Paris to find out who would insure the car so that I could get a good deal on the Honda. The Scooby is the one I wanted but felt that 38k euro was too steep. Anyway, then two days later the Subaru dealer offered me 15 percent off and I can honestly say he had me in the show room the next day and within a week I was sold. There is no way I would have had as much fun with a Type R Ok the difference is 10k euros.
However, if you must buy, take the anniversary version, black with black hind windows and red seats and air-con. It is around 23k euros but specs vary across Europe and I am not sure they still have them. Choose the metallic black. I thought the 6 gear was strange to use.

You may also wish to consider buying her the V6 Clio which they love here in France. Don't consider the Peugeot 180 206. The looks are not there Talking of which You need to consider one thing about the Type R. It is not a pretty car. The body looks too much like the cooking version. If she likes to flash it, this is not the car for her.

Not sure exactly what she flashes when she's out and about come to think of it
Thanks for all the comments re alternatives but she's all set on a CTR.
Like I said earlier, if I wanted another scoob and the associated running costs, I'd buy one. I don't, so I won't ( ). Likewise with the 172 option.
Cheers again, all good info

Rich
PS DJDunk, if yours had A/C I'd be rustling it off you next yr without fail. Must investigate what's involved in a retro fit A/C option

If you do buy a CTR either 2nd hand or new make sure it has A/C, its the number one extra to have and it makes the car so much more sellable later one.
mellina - mine is the 30th anniversy model in black with tints and the red recaros !
You will not get a new one now but I managed to get a very good deal on my second hand one, 6 months old with 3K on the clock. Girlfriend has just bought a standard CTR (same year as mine) in black with AC, and more miles for 1K more than what I paid for mine !!

Richie..... what you looking for exactly and how much you wanna spend.... I have a mint example in Milano Red with only 13k on the clock.... has A/c, Front fogs, rear head rests... (has a couple of mods.... springs and a magnex bb... but they can be easily removed.)
If you're interested drop me an email, I am looking to sell to fund either an 04 or DC5.
