TEK2, who's confirmed bhp & torque?
#31
Glenn, I may do that in the future but first I'm trying to establish if the figures are possible. If they're not then definitely a refund, if the figures are possible then I'll go for the 280 horses!

Trying to measure power and torque on rolling roads isn't really going to help you.
I'd just go by how the car feels in the seat of your pants. Either it feels significantly faster and you're happy paying for the upgrade or it doesn't feel much different and you go for the refund...

Nice results Kenny where it really matters in real life, FWIW I don't think that you would score more than 250-260 Scottish BHP
The scooby IMHO can vary by as much as 20bhp from one day to the next and it doesn't always seem temp related! Sometimes it totally flys and other day it feel like you are towing something!!
Judge you mods by how they 'feel' and if the don't 'feel' worth £600 then you might went to consider an attempt at negotation for your money back.
FWIW, I don't particuarly rate the TEK as a 'cure all your power cravings' device. Its not some magical pill that you pop in your car and hey presto skylines don't know which way you went. Its a part of a bigger picture which should usually include a decat, uprated hoses, possibly induction and possibly better intercooling. The whole package can transform the car and then the tek makes sense. Best yet it does show on the road...........where it counts
I also find the TEK gives the biggest gain at higher speeds. I've compared with Sipies car which was hardly modified at all. I couldn't do much at all to him until 80-90mph and then from there on and above 100mph my car started to go. Basically 4th gear is transformed

Lower gears are over so quickly, any gains have to often be measured to see. A car with +20% power will not totally destroy another car by any stretch of the imagination in the real world... they will be quite similar. That is the sort of gain you are talking about from standard to remap/exhaust.

For destruction of other vehicles you just need to go to the John Banks & Andy F school of tuning.....aka.......double the power and then consider some more for good measure
If I was doing the whole modifying thing again I would be tempted to try a little harder to save for a bigger turbo - something with a bit of puff at the top end.
Next time perhaps

maybe I should've told them the internal temperature of my wallet would only let me reach £400 but on a cold day, with the wind in the right direction, I might be able to stretch to £500!!
BTW Saxo - whats the latest on your Scoobs future? Any more CTR cravings?

FWIW - my my00 PPP with decat and dawes also made 263hp/258lb/ft on a realistic rolling road.
IMO anything much beyond 260 with stock td04 requires further mods to inlet and exhaust systems over and above a simple decat.
However, classics with td04's I've done have been measured between 250 and 285 depending on the rolling road. They are all slightly different....but not by that much in the 'real' world

Interesting topic as my aim is to get to get circa 280 out of my uk99.
I wouldn't bother sticking it on the rollers though, just have straight line races with standard P1s, STis and see how it fairs against them...

If a reasonable Tek2 map gives around 250-260bhp, with decat;
is it unreasonable to expect another 20bhp or so if
a properly fitted equal length header plus uprated fuel pump and regulator were fitted without remapping (but perhaps an ECU reset to clear out lambda tables) ?

Stanmo - yes
The collector will hamper spool up without a remap and require more fuel as it comes online, and all the designs I've tried will also allow more timing.
Best bet, without a remap, is to up the boost a little and use FP to get the fuelling right - the header *generally* allows more boost for the same timing/fuelling. Don't quote me on that if it goes bang though
Richard
PS: I really wouldn't risk it - depending on the header, find a tuner who's already mapped one successfully. Once the base map is done it just needs tailoring to your car.

Well I sent my ecu back to be checked over and got it back yesterday. I rushed home after work like a kid with a new toy at christmas!! Fitted it and went for a drive.
Was I disappointed?
Was I bollocks!!!
Whether it's got 280 bhp or not I don't know but it certainly drives better on the road and seeing as that's where I drive it most of the time then it'll do for me!!
Would I recommend it? YES!!
Jason - who can't wait for home time!!
