Peanuts, for someone who 'doesn't give a flying fig' you seem to have rather a lot to say on the matter.

It could be said that the standard UK-spec Impreza has 'had its day' simply because there are so many more other cars which are now equally as fast, equally as well built and equally good value for money. As has been mentioned already, this competition simply wasn't there when the car was launched. These other cars leave the poor old 215bhp wheezer looking a bit 'all mouth and no trousers' these days, especially if you've got gold wheels and a high-level spoiler.

A nice understated 5-door, however, is an entirely different matter...

Don't know where the opinion comes from that the 350Z is underpowered, or that the TT and RX8 are better than it, none of the reviews i've read seem to think so, in fact the general opinion is don't even put the TT in the same class as the Z because the Z's a true sports car and the TT most certainly isn't.

As for being blinkered just coz this is a Scooby sight- WHY? Yes the Scooby is an fantastic car(the Classic)for which i've nearly talked myself out buying the Z atleast 3 times so i can keep it but there are other great cars in this world so why can't most of you accept that?

As for the Classic owners being jealous of blob and bug eye owners coz you're flasher and can afford one, who ever said that obviously doesn't have a clue. The Classic is the only model for me and i would imagine quite a few others that could afford a new model, but like me only want the Classic. **** i'm talking myself out of getting rid of it again.

All i'd like to say on the matter is that i wanted a impreza for years so i saved my cash and last weekend bought one do i regret it NO will i sell it next week cos someone else says it's shat and had it's day NO can i see myself in anything else in the future NO .I bought it because I wanted it i don't give a f**k whether it's had it's day or not hell iv'e been driving a Mondeo for the last 7 years. Anyone who owns an Impreza knows why they own it. To any to anyone who's thinking about owning one don't delay everything your told about them IS TRUE and not being able to take the grin off your face IS TRUE... just enjoy..

Think we have to talk money here!

I'm what would've been called Working class.

Working in a skilled environment.
That has some 600 employees at the moment.

I am the one who has skrimped and borrowed to buy The F.OFF scoob in the car park.

Everyone Knows this from Top, down.

It's a talking point (An opener for conversation If you will between myself and those higher or lower than me on the payscale)

Everyone of them admires my car (In a certain respect) .

But each has their reasons as to why they wouldn't buy one.

Some could easily afford it.Others dream.

It matters not a jot.

Fact is I'm the Stupid/Lucky bustard That has the Scoob.

And that gives me a certain respect amongst all the petrolheads,

Be it male or female.

And I love the whole firkin well well experience!

Their are certain cars that various levels of worker will aspire to.

But BTF.Scoobies cross all barriers.

slasha: ok, I didn't actually buy a new scoob just to be flash. I bought it because I want a reliable, fun to drive car... Anyway, I don't know why we're arguing in this thread (again), because at the end of the day we're all car enthusiasts.

general:
From my point of view, though, it seems like it's always the classic owners slagging off the newer models (with comments like "the new ones are all ****", "the classic is the only impreza" etc). At the end of the day, you make your purchase and you pays your money. What happened to diversity? I mean, everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, but please, don't slag someone off just because they don't think the same as you.

If there are plenty of new cars equal to the scoob in every respect, why don't I want them? Simple- to me, the scoob has that indefinable something. If we're "proper" SN members then we share that feeling. It lights my fire, simple as.

Slasha - I'm pretty sure Auto Express mag rated the RX8 above the 350Z. It was tested with the TT too (is that a tongue twister?). The TT was ranked below the 350Z, mainly because it's old hat now, and there are so many about.

As for being "sporty" - in the recent test between the 350Z rag top and the offerings from BMW and Porsche, it was said to be more of a tourer, less sporty than the opposition.

But neither article said it was underpowered or slow. I like it - seen a couple round here on my travels at weekends, very nice.

Oh, and Turbo2000 - my DGM classic has a park bench spoiler, and gold speedlines, hence the comment! And I like 'em too.

11 years ago, I learnt to drive in my old man's E reg XT Turbo. I'd never even heard of Subaru until then! I absolutely fell in love with it. And I'm sure you can imagine, as a 17 year old, it made an ever-lasting impression on me. It's taken me 4 cars (Fiesta Popular Plus, Peugeot 309 SRi, Renault 19 16V, Rover 220 GSi Turbo), 11 years and a remortgage to get to the stage where I could afford MY00. I have absolutely no regrets. And I'd just like to thank Laura for leaving me, allowing me to remortgage and spend the money on something that can put a smile on my face more than she ever could...

I have to admit that this topic is a bit boring now too!!!

If you don’t like your scoob because of the perceived image sell it, and get something else. But I got it because of the drive in it, not because people thought this and that about it!!!

I don't care if the impreza has had it's day or not, it makes my day, every day I drive it and that's good enough for me.

A bog standard Scoob is an exciting car to drive, the handling and acceleration are very good even compared with so many modern cars in the same price range.

Many owners, like me, get a great deal of pleasure in improving their cars. I've done that for many years. The Scoob lends itself so well to both engine and handling mods. that it is a joy to work on in that respect. When you have done some of those mods you then have a car that will deserve respect for its performance all round and you can take pleasure in knowing that you did the mods yourself. And you have a very special machine to enjoy driving too.

its a well proven fact that in standard trim, an evo is quicker! have god knows how many articles from magazines saying this, but the scoob is more "everyday".
An EVO is non type approved match it against a grey import impreza not much in it. Do you really think a GSR EVO would live with a Spec C impreza ?

I kind of expected a balanced view as its not just scooby owners who use this site, do you really believe the Scoob is all round a 'better'car than an Evo?
LOL I would last two minutes on the MLR posting what the MLR guys post on here

Do you believe its better than a Skyline?
Skyline is a GT not as rally rep and cost twice as much, anyway do you really think an EVO is as good as a Zonda or a 911 Turbo ?

I'll stick with my evo, safe in the knowledge that as its stands (before the new engine goes in) that its quicker than most scoobs, a damn sight better put together than both my old imprezas, has much better spec, can stop without needing a brake upgrade, and will be worth more than 50p in 6 months thanks to IM shafting the market with 'giveaway' cars
Also wasnt there a warping problem on brake discs on EVOs ?

Anyway how come you need a new engine my RA is still on its first and faster than every standard EVO except the cut down and stripped out RS and very expensive Extreme LOL.
