Thumbs up

I own a £3 watch I bought in Cyprus from a tacky souvenir shop three years ago. Funny, it still keeps time and looks as smart as most fake watches Maybe my next car should be a Skoda. A white 150 BHP estate tuned to 400 BHP would be very amusing

It is more than a little coarse and degrading to put on a Rolex or whatever the "now" brand is, and dressing up to impress a small minded Audi salesmen (now why do I pick Audi ). Maybe it is just being under 30 and looking at "Prestige" marques? Maybe it is supercilious plonkers of salesmen?

I went with my mum to a ford dealer to look at the new falcon. She liked the look of the xr6 (normal v6 falcon with a body kit) but loved the idea of having an xr6 turbo (she wanted a some sort of performance car like every one else in the family). When she asked about the xr6 turbo, the salesmen basically told her she didn't need the power and it was more of a boys car. She ended up at a subaru dealership and bought a B4.

Au contraire! A stainless steel Sea Dweller is the zenith of taste.

I wouldn't be seen dead in anything with gold or diamonds, I'm not an Arab.

Another great story was from Michaeal Caine's book - "What's it all about". He had started making huge money and was living in Chelsea with Terrance Stamp.

While drunk they decided that Caine should buy a new car and that the fashionables of 60's London drove Rollers. They next morning they woke with a hangover and decided to go out and buy milk and **** and so wrote a list which included "car" to remind them to look into the RR showroom.

So, hungover, unshaven and dishevelled, they turn up at Jack Barclay the RR dealer in Berkley Sq and the doorman looks down his nose at them as he doesn't recognise them. "Yes?" he enquires. Caine gets the scrap of paper out of his pocket and says "er...milk..er, no...cigarettes...er,no...ah yes! A Rolls Royce!" and pushes his way into the showroom and hands over cash for a car!

Heard the story of a local singer who made some money and went into the Mercedes show room with bare feet. Apparently it needed some persuasion to be taken seriously but in the end he bought an old 300 SL.

Wink

erm...

I'm planning to test drive a 993 Turbo & M5 soon, will be putting my Adidas Samba's on and a Swatch! Still maybe turning up in a 500+bhp GTR will give the right impression
