No, No, No, I go away for a few hours and I get new material to play with, lol!

I cant remember the exact weight figures but the STI is lighter than its nearest Porsche rival
WRX STi 1470kg
996 C2 1345kg
996 C4 1405kg

Wrong!
also cornering is improved with greaer traction on a 4 wheel drive chassis
A 996 C4 has a rather efficiat 4WD system too
Wrong again!

a mildly uprated Scoob will be pushing about 350-370 bhp at the fly a standard WRX STI pushes out around 300bhp
MMmmm you sure about the words "midly" and 350-370bhp!

the turbo or GT3 will be competion but not a lot in it as far as tracks are concerend, on the starights your right the scoob will be trounced.
.....again wrong!

hahahahaha, you would not see which way they went either on track or on a straight!

How has this thread lasted so long (not that I'm helping it go away now).

It does amuse me that some are trying to compare a 930 to a Subaru Impreza.

Surely it would be fairer to compare the 930 to a Subaru XT as that is what Subaru were making when the 930's rolled off the production line.

>WRX STi 1470kg
>996 C2 1345kg
>996 C4 1405kg

MY03 WRX STi Type RA 1300kg
MY00 WRX 1235kg? (I think) Near 200kg less than the 996C4 - that's a lot of weight!

When are you lot going to realise that the UK spec imprezas are *not* the be all and end all?

MMmmm you sure about the words "midly" and 350-370bhp!
MY03 WRX STi type RA 322bhp as standard 340-350ish?bhp with exhaust and remap.

.....again wrong! hahahahaha, you would not see which way they went either on track or on a straight!
You didn't read the thread I linked to on general then which reckoned the spec c impreza was cornering quicker than the GT3 clubsport but the GT3 would make the time back up on the next straight. But then it could have been the drivers, perhaps Justin Wilson and Takuma Sato don't have what it takes

CTRNutter, totally agree with you I do like most versions of the 911, which performance car enthusiast wouldn't? Likewise, I can't afford the 911 I would like I could afford a boxster, or any one of a number of hairdressers cars, but I just haven't found my camp side yet so I went for the impreza.

Red face

Is it a common affliction for Porsche owners to fantasise about gay Subaru owners? Hmm you've got me worried now! You might have suggested the one thing that might make me sell my impreza!

I have been asleep for a few days but have now woken up - almost sent me to sleep reading this lot again!

Some facts:

Classic UK scooby weighs 1260kg
WRX 01 onwards UK weighs 1350kg

Both have power approx 245bhp at the flywheel with full exhaust and induction (rolling roaded both my Scooby's at this)

This gives power to weight ratio of 195 for 1st and 181 for second. A 300bhp model weighing 1260 has a ratio of 238.

BTW the PPP WRX STI8 weighs over 1500kg giving it a ratio of 200 - lard4rse!

A boxster s has a ratio of 200 due to 1250kg weight (no mods or go faster stickers!), carrera 2 235 and carrera 4 230. These cars have naturally aspirated engines that respond well through the 'whole' rev range and no inefficient 4wd systems to sap power either.

Edited to say I forgot about the gearbox being revolutionary in the Porsche - it lets you put in in any gear you choose, on the first attempt!

From this any dim **** can see (even through the pimp tints) that there is going to be no great difference on the public road between any of these cars in terms of pace.

However, handling and braking are a different matter and Porsche are the universally recognised leaders by a long stretch for road going cars. This makes a huge difference on the public road.

Dont you find Traffic Light Burnups dull? I like the open road with my foot down whether I am in Scooby or the Porker.

Paul

Just a small point of note, All of these flywheel figures mean little when refering to a 4wd as the scoobs loose 100bhp to the transmission, IE- std 210 bhp type UK spec turbo is making 110 BHP @ the wheels, and the normal 2wd tranny is loosing 30-40 bhp. The reason why Bikes continue to use dirty smelly messy chains are because the transmission loss is about 10% IE, My 175KG 600 Ninja at the wheel is only 10bhp less than a std UK 2000 Turbo scooby. This is why Scooby or Porker, Unless you've spent £20,000 + on tuning, I only see you in my mirrors off the line

Wow! Everything I wrote was meant as a bit of banter, perhaps a few little wind ups have to admit tho you are about the only one biting!

BTW the type RA IS a WRX, just a particular version, much like the Boxster S is a particular version of the boxster blah blah blah

Dont you find Traffic Light Burnups dull? I like the open road with my foot down whether I am in Scooby or the Porker.
Absolutely, which is why I would happily own a nice Porsche. As for cornering, I would say a decent AWD car is better on public road because you can get closer to the limit safely, compared to a RWD car which I would prefer on the track, a lot more fun near the limit, but less safe on public roads. Just MHO.

All of these flywheel figures mean little when refering to a 4wd as the scoobs loose 100bhp to the transmission
The standard WRX trans is pretty lossy although it won't lose 100bhp. Rolling road figures are way OTT on AWD losses because of the eight contact points between tyres and rollers, plus pinching of the tyres. The viscous centre diff is quite lossy, which is why you are better off with the DCCD which is a mechanical diff and very much more efficient. Rolling roads are fairly accurate for 2WD because they overestimate losses at the driven wheels but underestimate losses from the non driven wheels.

Sorry my mistake didn't realise few of the wan**** have joined in now, what was originally some light banter is now turning to a typical scoobynet thread, the kind of thread that makes me wish i had bought an EVO

Right classic owner's pi** off your all slow and the reason your cars are so light is probably due to rust settling In because your cars are so frigg'n old anyway.

as for weight is that the weight given out with your fat **** in the actual weight of the STI-8 is 1,470 kerb.

STI-8 PPP with:

HKS Racing Suction Kit
HKS Turbo Back System incl DE-CAT
HKS Sequential BOV
Autronics ECU, Anti - LAG 25% Cycle
Boost Mapped at 1.5 bar
Samco Hoses
Uprated Plugs (Blitz Iridium)

I think the only thing you will be seeing is my back bumper, especially when the car has fitted AP 6 Pots and PPP Handling Pack.

and the only thing I will be seeing is the back of a 911 turbo but it would be very close, I will still be way of the cost of a new 911, and looks are a matter of opinion, I like the toy looks of the Scoob.

and as for booting it of away from light I wouldn't waist my petrol, the basta** thing uses to much of that anyway.

and i drive an STI-8 not a Nova

Bikes are fast

Everyone should know that!

I like them but am too scared to use one!

You dont need to be at or near the limit in either car to make the fastest possible progress on the road. The Porsche will give more information to allow you to know when you are approaching the limit - the Subaru just does not give this - you are guessing until it happens. 4wd is more forgiving when it does happen though, especially in the wet! This is where driving ability comes in.

Goodbye!

I'm off to have my hair cut - oh no I forgot, I am qualified to cut it myself. I'll save time then, do that and then have a w4nk at my desk instead.

Scoobys are the best in the world. sorry! I realise that now.

Cor, some folks get soooooooo nasty when people post things they don't like. Got to be honest, I always considered the MR2 to be a Hairdressers car, not the Boxster (ragtops kill hairdo's ) Perhaps the Scoob is a better car for the Dodgyhaircut brigade, Plenty of show and not a hair out of place

I've just spent 30 mins reading all these threads and to be quite honest..... it's bloody silly.
Why do these people have to be so competative? and what's more, so derogatory of anyone that doesn't own a Impreza.
I consider myself as a car enthusiast and love driving and for my vote you don't get better performance/pound than an impreza but that doesn't mean that there aren't other great cars out there and to be honest the Boxter is a great car, as are almost all porkers.

Here's the bottom line....

A good driver driving either car will beat an average driver in either car, and by good driver i don't just mean someone who knows how to push the loud peddle all the way down in a straight line. If I had more time I'd tell you in detail about how recently a STi7 with 4 people in it clocked the fastest lap time at Brands Hatch on a Ferrari owners club day. The difference was the Subaru was being driven by a profesional racing driver.

Things aren't what they used to be with Subaru owners, don't let the team down with all this "my Dad's bigger than your Dad" crap.

And for those interested and still reading, I have a 300+ bhp modified P1 but doesn't mean that i don't look at and admire other pieces of automotive engineering and appreciate them for the beautiful cars that they are.

well dogus ive just done the same as you except it took me nearly an hour,(but i have only got a 230bhp my98 turbo,LOL)and ive come to the conclusion that yours is the only sensible post ive read on here.now ive driven a couple of "supercars" and they are an absolute dream to drive(cause they are a different class of car),but £ for £ give me a scooby anyday, ive been lookin at them for 3 years now, and a couple of months ago i bought my 1st one, and i have to say that no matter how much money i have in the future,i may well have a supercar, but there will always be a scooby outside my house, fun just aint the word...

cheers,jay
