A10 - Boxster V's 300 bhp WRX.........!!

Turboteeth make sure that your turbo is connected, and if it is make sure that you are pressing the right hand pedal not the middle peddal to move forward.
Should see a good increase in your acceleration

Ahh right, the middle pedal is stop and the right for go, that's where I have been going wrong.
Just tried it, it's amazing. There's this needle thing that moves up as you press it

I've smoked many a Boxster S before now it my lightly breathed on Cat.....You just need to read the articles as quoted on the Boxsters there TOY cars for people who can't afford a real Porker....

OK, you have all had your say, now it's time for the doc to have his...and hopefully re-ignite the flames.
I bet she still laughs when she thinks of you doing a traffic light GP in your cheap jap crap, how mature.
Please tell me that you do not seriously use that in an arguement.
It's still a Porsche, an Impreza is the bargain basement of the performance car world, I guess you really hanker after an evo or an STI, maybe a Skyline?
Yes, the max power crowd, and school boys - none of which Porsche owners want, r Porsche for that matter.
Champagne costs 4 times as much as a bottle of white wine, does it get you 4 times as drink? No, its just better - you pay for quality - something you will learn when you grow up.
Your mate has 272 bhp, if its 2WD then I have no doubt you are talking poop - oh and he still can afford a Porsche and you can't.
As low as that, I'd stick my neck out for 100%
Your right, thay have the worse brakes of any car I have even driven, dreadful - but the first thing most Impreza driver want is more power. MMmmmmmm, how clever.
None? Because they are a little bit more mature, I ask you, have you even been to a PCGB track day? No? Try it, I think you may well retract that statement. I know of people who can afford a 911 for the road and a GT3 with a roll cage for track - but they don't drive like madmen (controlled and fast), but would still eat any scoob you car to mention on track.
Bang for your buck, that is the best Porsche money can buy, 0-100 in 13.5 secs, Careful though there is a lot of 300bhp ones about.
And Impreza's are little boys cars, the Playstation generation.

Hope your gilrlfriend/wife that was in the car with you has now stopped laughing
you don't see many Boxsters in rallies do yer
Boxster = Budget Porsche
Scooby will attract far greater attention from a far greater audience any day of the week
The Boxster cost 4 times the price as my old classic , is it 4 times as quick?
Even with 280 brake mines quicker than my mates 1994 911
Id hedge a bet that at least 50% of the contributers to this thread havent even been in a boxster S
Very true that Scoobies certainly can't stop as well as Boxsters
How many porsche owners do you know that drive like madmen
I doubt many standard Scoobs could beat a 944 Turbo on a twisty road
Boxsters there TOY cars for people who can't afford a real Porker

Image doctor . Champagne may be expensive but it tastes like crap , a good single malt whiskey is expensive also but to my mind far more pleasant . My mates 1994 911 has 260 bhp and was slower than my car in a measured test a fact to which he would agree and it may upset you to learn that I could easily afford a Boxster but as I have 2 kids it would not be practical . I also have far better things to spend my money on than cars but if I was having an expensive car it would have soul and character , a Shelby GT500 , not a Boxster which while fairly quick is also incredibly dull!

The thread was started about a Boxster being dusted by an Impreza, it happened....we have all done it....the magazine boys have proved it dunno bout what this u can't afford this that and the other I could afford a boxster most people with than impreza could, but like the other guys said I need 4 doors and a big boot and performance. Porkers are great cars some of the fastest track cars in the world nobodys denying it..... but the boxster aint its a hair dressers car and like said before and not disputed by the gay docter its a TOY car for wannabe porker drivers....."My first Porsche"....This is boring now so if anybody tries to diss me I won't see it

Remind me not to give you a job in my Sales Dept Image Doctor.
Unless you're just trying to stir things, most of what you've said is utter tosh!!
944 Turbo - good in its day but now a relic (old technology).
Couldn't afford a Boxster or never driven one - I could and have and I suspect many others on here could/have too (they just wouldn't waste their money - particularly having driven one).
Respected car journalists - name one (they give their personal opinions remember!).
Scooby brakes - most people I know have them uprated as well as the power output.
Need I say more eh!!

Well I for one would have a Boxster S over pretty much any Scoob. If anyone can call one boring to drive then I suggest they try changing up to 2nd gear next time.
As for champagne - well Ive never been a fan but that Veuve Clicquot is lush.

Its not that Subarus are cheap - I like the word affordable. Is it not that Porche are overpriced and marketed for the wealthy of this world? Then they realised that sales could be boosted so introduced their very own "bargain" model.
I think the Boxter looks lovely, and in fact was driving behind one yesterday in Bournemouth. The young man did nothing but preen himself and adjust his hair whilst talking on his mobile. He looked like a hairdresser and probably was... read poseur

this started off as a "I beat a Boxster" thread and now we are trying to compare the 2 cars. Surely the 2 couldnt be more different - one is a fairly affordable, performance saloon which can carry 4 people in relative comfort at high speeds. The other isnt! The Boxster has a few competitors in its class, but the Subaru is not one of them.
As for which is quicker - that obviously depends on the circumstances. I had a play with one on a road with fast sweeping bends and I could not get away at all (in my RB5 WR). Had it been on a narrow country lane with lots of bumps and tight bends I am sure I would have lost him. But so what?
As for the 944 Turbo being old technology, that doesnt mean it wont embarass a Subaru. The wheel is old too but that is still regarded as being pretty useful. The later 944 Ts have 250 BHP (without 4WD losses) and have a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The difference is that where a Subaru corners fast due to very high levels of grip, the Porsche relies on an excellent chassis which allows it to handle superbly. This makes it a more rewarding and exhilerating drive. That is why I have just bought one.

Image Doctor, I agree with everything you say, apart from one thing and that is your intimation about Porsche Club GB drivers not driving like nutters.
I seem to recall not too long ago two 911s racing on a single track road after leaving Donnington and they collided head on with an old couple in a Meastro, both of whom died and the two Porsches rolled over.
Also I have been in a Boxster S on a couple of occasions so the figure of 100% of Scoobynetters not having done so is incorrect. Sadly I haven't driven one because my friend who owns it believes me to be a boy racer because I have a (quite frankly slow by todays standards) WRX.

Image Doctor - I am glad to see someone who can argue better than me! Some great points made there!
RB320 - sounds like you think the same as me - are you keeping the RB5 aswell (i did!!!).
It makes me laugh that these people think of a car in terms of power only - I have been on many fast road advanced driving courses, the latest of which with John Cave. This taught me a lot about handling, braking and speed - if you can drive properly the Porker blows any Scooby away due to the information you get from it allowing you to 'use' more of the car and do it safely. This is a better way of 'increasing horsepower' than modifications.
Since owning the Porsche, I have realised that the suspension needs sorting out properly on the Scooby - but its a shame nothing can be done with the steering!
Cheers
Paul

Paul - no, the RB5 had to go unfortunately! Out of interest, do you have the Porsche services at AFN or do you use an independent specialist? I am not that far from Reading and havent decided who to use yet.

RB5320 - intending to use main dealer in Reading when I reach 12000 miles - only up to 5000 so far! This is due to warranty reasons.
There are a few well respected independants in the area also - buy 911 and Porsche world magazine for information or I can look them up for you.
Cheers

Cheers Paul. The car only arrives today (hopefully!) so I've got a while before it needs a service. I've been recommended quite a few of the independents already so shouldnt be a problem.

lol - your making it easy for me.
Look the same like a blue Impreza with gold wheels or a blue Impreza with silver wheels
Whooop de doo - a blue impreza with grey wheels, now that's a special edition, they do special editions when sales are flagging.
When Porsche make a special edition, they are well and truley special, not just a few bits from a parts bin thrown on a different paint job.

lol id - some people will argue that x is better than anything because they own x. Even though they have no experience of option y they will defend their own car to the death.
I will admit that I thought of Boxsters as hair dressers cars before a mate bought one (an S) and took me out for a blast. After 30 mins of driving round at full pelt I was converted. They sound great on full chat, once they get going they are very fast, brakes are outstanding and the handling is the biggest difference. They are pretty low and handle like a go-kart - this thing was stuck to the road like glue going around roundabouts.
I had 2 passengers in my bog standard MY00 Turbo and he had one in the S. Other than pulling off to about 40mph he just left me especially when we went round this tight lefthander up a hill. Not suprising as the S is 260bhp and only 2wd.
They are pretty good depriciation wise as well and the servicing is less than for my scoob. Totally different cars but Id still prefer a Boxster as long as the mrs has a practical car i.e. boot for shopping, holidays etc.
Simon.
