OMG... what is the point?
So you bid beyond the point at which it is value for money to you... what upside is there in this? Why not have your gambling fix on sometihng with an upside... get a betfair account or something.

Surely its like everything in life. One is taking a risk. The risk in this case is that you will pay over the odds for an item, or even purchase an item you don't want.
There are numerous ways of taking risks including running across the M1 however some are more dangerous than others!
In the case of bidding up items on Ebay no one is harmed, indeed the seller is better off. The only harm is to the person who outbids you to buy a product, however they have bid that amount and therefore must believe the product was worth that. I believe it would be wrong if you bid up an item and got a benefit either because you were the seller or the seller offered you an inducement to bid up.
Seems to me to be fairly harmless risk taking, bit like speeding!

Ok, getting a better picture of this now. But, as has already been asked, why not do something in which there is potential upside?
Bidding up E-bay just results in either making somebody else pay more for something they want or you ending up with something that you consider over-priced.
I just don't see how that can be fun and/or clever for very long.
I must be getting old...

Have you seen the *director`s cut* of Dear Hunter? the one where they sit round a PC and bid on eBay??
ha ha ha, no harm done, if you lose at the bookies you go home with nothing, causes family break ups, leads to suicide etc.
Midget just ends up (now and again) with over priced tat, but never goes home empty handed, the opposite in fact
The seller gets better return on the advert, who honestly loses, another victimless crime me thinks
peanuts....

heheheh from the reaction of some peeps you'd think i'd confessed to pushing old ladies over in the street...i don't do that, honest
so, anyone here ever paid more than they meant to for something on ebay? i know i have!
and anyone ever got a REAL bargain? i almost did once but the bloody pc crashed in the last minute and i couldn't bid i do find most people seem to bid in the last 60 seconds, i've even been beat in the last 10 seconds or so
i don't see why anyone bids for any item at all before the last minute or so as this is when it usually happens for desirable items anyways.

I got a 1998 Action man jeep, for my 3 year old boy, complete with a gun that fires things across the room (what a mistake THAT was ), for £4.50
Must have cost someone at least £30 new!
