Well, a Cat d write off does NOT need any VIC at all - thats direct from DVLA

A VIC test costs £26!!

Direct Line have to send an engineer out to see car (they at first wanted US to get estimates!! - bl00dy cheek, its they clients fault, they should do the donkey work!!)

I assume he will look at it and take the decision to write it off - whats a Nova of 1986 vintage worth?! Its worth £1000's to us as its so good, 1 owner and 60,000miles and outstanding condition, BUT I don't suppose they will offer us much?

I have to hand over the V5 to Direct Line if they write it off, why can they not just settle the claim by paying me cash to fix as I see fit? Will they? Can they?

Pete

You've screwed it by going through the insurance now! or would the woman not agree to pay for the repair personally?

Thumbs up

Engineer been - very surprised at the superb condition of the car considering its 17 years!!

he wouldn't write it off, he couldn't he said - its just too valuable so we settled on a cash amount for me to go away and fix!!

Result!! - thats Direct Line!! Superb service, rang them yesterday morning - sorted out lunchtime today!! Is that the fastest Insurance settlement in history???????????????????

Got to be close!!

Direct Line goes top of the class!! Pity they don't like Imprezas!!

Pete, not having much lately are you?

Sounds like a trip to the breakers yard is in order. No point claiming by the sound of it. Oh, and try to get the Land Rover driver to contribute.

UB

Ah, just read the rest of the thread. Glad it's sorted now.

Don't forget, if you want to give insurers an idea of the value of your car, start collecting Autotrader snippets *now*, not in 6 months when they get their fingers out and start looking for a price which of course will be lower by then!
