STi7 stolen last night then recovered

Surely the builders are at fault for leaving the house unlocked ? Builders should be insured against negligence, how about recouping your costs from them ?
I also think it very strange that the theft took place on a night when the the house wasn't locked. Hmmmmm.......

Actually mate I think the message here is don't bother with a tracker............
You've got your car back with a ripped boot carpet, kerbed wheels, knackered tyres and god only knows what they did with it all night.
You had your private posessions dumped in the street and probably have taken a day off work at least. You'll have to get your alarm re-coded and always be scared they'll come back because they have the keys. All of which is not enough to claim on your insurance for.
Wouldn't it have been better if you had no tracker and they had written your car off ??????
The only person benefitting from trackers are insurance company's.
I hate car thieves and due to this happening I sleep with my keys every night.
I have owned cars with trackers and not paid the subscription, wouldn't want the car back if some scum had driven it like a c*** everywhere. Thats my job
I'm sure they'll catch them though mate as the police are so tuned in to catching car criminals, if only they concentrated on speeders more

Why dont the insurance companies cover the recovery costs, after all they could have paid out thousands for a written off car but because most scoob owners add additional security we get stuffed and left more out of pocket.
Personally if they tell me where mine is I'm gonna take a **** load of mates with some bats and wait for the ******* to come back for it. If I get done for GBH so what, at least there will be 1 less w@nker out there without the ability to drive someone elses car ever again.

my trackstar has to be manually tuned off when i start the car, and if doesn't within 20 seconds it automatically activates ... perhaps you should have paid the extra £40...and it works too cos i've tested it !!!

Unfortunately, due to the car being on finance, and the amount owing on the finance being higher than the book value of my car, i'm better off getting it back with the tracker
Don't think i'd really want it, but else i'd be paying for a car i dont have...

Just thought I'd tell you what happened.
I'm having an extension added to the house at the back. Its nearly finished and all the work is on the interior now. On leaving yesterday the builders seem to have not locked the French windows properly. This meant that at some point last night, theives managed to prise open the doors causing virtually no damage. They then went into the main part of the house and collected my wife's handbag and two jackets hanging up inside the front door. They then took these outside and using a rear security light searched for car keys - they found my spare set in my wife's handbag. Fortunately these had no house keys attached. They then must have rolled the car down to the bottom of the road and then driven off.
We discovered the break in, this morning when I got up. They only took the car - even left all the cards in my wife's purse. The car fortunately has RACTracstar fitted as standard. I phoned them immediately and whilst I was on the phone they located the car which was stationary, some 25 miles away. They said they would inform the police who would locate the car.
Meanwhile I received another call from a different Police dept to say that someone had reported lost property dumped in an industrial estate (about 5 miles from where the car was). This turned out to be the contents of the car including a buggy and 2 child car seats - I was able to retrieve these from a nearby Police station.
The car was located and was found in a residential area, locked and with no-one in sight. They had lifted up the boot-liner presumably looking for a tracking device - this torn but not badly. The front nearside alloy had been kerbed and scraped but not badly. The remainder of the car was undamaged although the tyres looked a bit more worn round the edges than before.
I was told that I could collect the car from 911 recovery which I initially thought be a Police pound. In fact it was a private company who tow away lots of cars for various reasons mostly for offenses. At this place, I met the scene of crime Police who wanted to take prints. They had already taken a sample of spit from the outside of the driver's door - they can extract DNA from this and will therefore almost certainly catch the driver at some point in the future (when he's next arrested).
I was then allowed to take the car away but not until I'd paid the release fee (for being towed to depot) - £105 for getting my own car back. You might say that I shouldn't complain but I don't see why I couldn't have collected the car from where it was recovered - I was given no option. "Claim it back from your insurance", the Police said but none of us have excesses less than £250 let alone £100.
Anyway, I've got the car back but the thief has still got the keys and I suppose might come back. On the advice of the dealer, I arranged for Subaru assistance to take the car away to the dealer. I was unsure about getting the locks changed but have decided against. They can changed the codes on both the key and the alarm fob immobiliser so can still open the car but the alarm would activate and they wouldn't be able to start the engine.
So I suppose the main message here is get a Tracker and keep paying the annual subscription.
