Not its not! I've not lost to one yet. I have a Magnex BB and K&N which add nothing and been rolling roaded at 126bhp. Theres absolutely nothing in it on a straight drag!!!

However - if you're talking about the 1.6 then the VTS is faster!

Looks lowered to me Not a bad thing!

Anybody down Kent way who wants to fnd out if their 1.9 is as quick as a VTS, give me a shout Seriously though, jumping from a modified Mini on decent suspension/tyres/wheels to a Saxo wasn't too bad, I was pretty impressed by the feedback through the PAS, and I find the seats and driving position excellent. So if the 1.9 is even better, I'll definitely be getting one next. Need a test drive methinks. And an Mi-16 lump

You lot are making me jealous putting up pics, they're all lovely

VTS faster than a one-nine? You got a plug lead off Eric?

SJ: yours does sit a touch low mate, although Eric's car looks a bit high on the back for me (is it the way its parked?).

Rich: I had 4 minis when I was a youth and loved em all. If you like driving a VTS (I really did, apart from constantly pressing 2 pedals at once due to my big clown feet) then you will love a 205.

LOL Rich - I guess it isn't, but it would mean its not standard! (and also not declared on ins!) As far as I know it isn't, Matt J on here had it for a few months before me and said it was owned by a lady for the rest of its life etc. Its all been checked out and the suspension components are all fine, and no-one said they are none standard....... As for the 205 - its like you are part of the car driving it mate - superb And with and Mi - vroooooooom, you'd totally destroy VTS's then!

Scotsman - you know you want to I seriously consider the 1.9 205 alloys to be one of my fav alloy designs of all time

Olly - yeah it was Erics at the back that made me think about it, mines much lower by the looks.

Exclamation

As above the front looks ok, but again, maybe a fraction lower, but the back is no where near as high.........

Weird.

Maybe its lower due to all those years of carrying the weekly shopping

Rich, forgot to add another benefit of a 1.9 over a VTS: the cabin aroma of all that cheap leather that makes it smell like a dominatrix's bedroom

LOL Olly, cheap leather, mmm I miss my Minis, but still have one as a fun car

Jawa, your's really does look gorgeous, but seeing as your car perhaps isn't as original as you first thought it was ( I spy nice big exhaust, and it's definitely lowered ), you really need clear repeaters Now stop posting pictures, I've only had my VTS a few months, I can't get rid of it already

Just been for a pint. A mate has had his Golf fettled today by the same guy that services my own Pug and our works vehicles, an ex Skip Brown guy and 205 fan. Transpires he has a slightly dog eared but healthy MI16 motored GTi lying about for sale for not a lot of money.

Guess where Olly's calling tomorrow.

Bob - they are often advertising rolling shells on:

http://forums.205gtidrivers.com

Trouble is you need to sign up and make a few posts before you have access to the for sale section.............

Test drove the MI16 today. Took along the cash, just in case

Generally, the performance is a big step ahead, probably closer to a Subaru than a 1.9. I only took it a mile or so (due to missing numberplates, and an egg cup full of fuel in the tank- nothing like preparing a car for sale) but it went like stink, coming on the cam at 4K more like a Vtec. A dyno sheet reading of 162bhp accompanied the car, taken from the same rollers that wrung 124bhp out of my healthy 205 and 116 out of my mate's standard 8v Golf GTi, so its no "bullsh1t" figure. The motor was standard.

The 16v engine is also smoother and more refined than the slightly rattly and rumbly 1.9, a real benefit.

I didn't buy it (the car itself was raggy and needed too many niggling jobs) but I can definately see the attraction. Mike performs the conversion for £1250 + VAT, a turn-key conversion. This car had been converted for a year, and has been utterly reliable. Interesting.

The 16v is a lot smoother

Know what you mean about the 4k revs barrier - really lets fly after that.

Shame the car itself was a bit crap. I went to look at an Mi16 before I bought my 1.6 - they were looking for £1800 and whilst there wasn't rust (very very small amount) - the paintwork was terrible and the inside was awful + it seemed the Mi16 didn't want to idle. Apart from that! lol

It was advertised as being pretty mint too. Some people!

Just thought I would share some pictures of mine to cause some controversy.

Yes it is highly modded and yes I did buy it as a standard (factory turbo technics) motor.

The car is running silly power, was quicker than the scoob when I sold the 205.

Here goes.

see here for a spec, more pictures and the sales pitch I used when it went. BTW, I got no where near the price shown on the site, I ended up letting it go for less tha 3.5k for a quick sale.

Edited cos I am a plank who cannot do clickys first time.....
