It isnt a funny topic the cancer thing, but I don' think he should have to apologise for his viewpoint.

I didnt read the thread, so if he intentionally was saying something just to hurt another then that is wrong, but if he believes what he said, why should he apologise?

there are many diseases which kill people, there is nothing special about cancer. No one knows why good people die young and ar5eholes often prosper, it is just the way of the world. A lot of people accept darwinism as truth, so what is ultimately wrong with thinking that cancer is what mycroft said it was? in the same way as all other fatal illnesses could be.

there are similar arguments about using genetic engineering to rid the world of genetic diseases, there are two points of view on that, but both being opinions, I don't think its fair that you should be made to apologise for which side of the fence you sit on.

This argument only works up to a point as rigth and wrong come into it. Eg. dictators commiting genecide. it is there opinion that a race should be wiped out, but morals tell us it is the wrong opinion.

Mycroft was not handing out cancer, he was just explaining his theory on it.

if he was just trying to hurt someone, then please ignore the above.

 

Until that comment I would have thought a ban would have been too severe, but that was truly cold hearted. **** him off, good riddance I have no time for people who are genuinely evil minded like that[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]. That comment has really made me ******* mad.

Yes, this is a *community*(sic), but sometimes the guy at the top has to take the lead. If you feel he should be banned, then do it.

Seein as you have asked for opinions however, IMO although he is deliberately offensive sometimes, and good at winding people up most of the time, I wouldn't ban him. As others have said already, this is a BBS and as such we should accept the rights of others to express their opinions (subject to the T&Cs).

 

It's taken me 20 minutes to get to page 5!, but the cancer comments should mean an instant ban - Goodbye Mycroft.

I've no time for irritating little weasels like him, get a life and grow up man.

 

I am also in two minds about this. Yes, the guy can be annoying but he's not, as many others have said, as offensive as some of the other users on this board. He's obviously very intelligent and can be very funny at times. He certainly generates a lot of debate!

However, I did not see the cancer comments and I have to say, I wouldn't wish for anyone, myself included, to have to see that sort of thing on ScoobyNet.

I wouldn't miss Mycroft if he was banned, but I don't have strong feelings about him remaining either. Excluding the cancer comments, his behaviour hasn't, IMO, been bad enough to ban him for, so maybe a second chance is deserved in this case.

But there is a MASSIVE difference,Pete and Marko make valuable contributions,but they also happen to have a great sense of humour as well.
Mycrofts whole purpose is to wind people up and pi$$ them off without offering anything positive whatsoever.Its nothing to do with free speech.

A ban is wholly appropriate.

Firstly, I don't "want him gone". If that was simply the case, he would have been banned by now.

Secondly, it's not "the mods / my" decision, it's the decision of the community

Thridly, the ignore list won't work as we are still publishing the comments made by mycroft and it would possibly make it worse "if you don't like what I say use your ignore button!".

Thank you very much for your comments. At the start of this thread I had very little question in my mind that he would be banned. It is what I wanted to do.

For all of those who regularly tell me that I run things how *I* want, and it's based on who *I* like or what *I* value, please remember this.

The community has spoken, and whilst there is good support for banning Mycroft, I do not feel there is enough to do it right now.

At this point however it would take someone of such lack of character or alternatively such remarkable unintelligence to not be able to grasp what is required of them.

Stop debating this and ban the sucker. I've followed some of Mycroft's posts and even though they can be informative, some of his comments are blatently evil.

I like Scoobynet, but I tend to go elsewhere when Mycroft is spouting on and having endless wars with an even bigger idiot - Pepper. Why the hell they don't E-mail eachother I don't know.

They just feed off eachother and do it on OUR BB - how many times have they paraphrased eachother in recent weeks? I don't think they have anything original to talk about - so they are not adding anything to OUR community.

As for Simon - we need to stand behind his decisions and support him. As it's himself and a few other mods who guide this BB and its direction.

You have to register as a user to be able to view "Mycroft's Mass Debating Room" - where basically Mycroft invites people in to argue and be insulted. That's his idea of a fun forum, its also unfortunately the reason (IMO) that the TIF can't be taken seriously.

 

And a worthwhile 2p it was too...

 

Annoying he may be, but that,s not enough reason to ban him IMHO
