PS2 online anyone?
LOL
Just been reading the advice on the PS2 site. From what I can gather, I should just be able to buy another ADSL modem, and use that as a standalone unit on the downstairs filter.
Excerpt:
Myth: I can connect my ADSL line to my PlayStation 2
Not directly. An ADSL line needs to be connected to a compatible modem, and the Network Adaptor (Ethernet) is not a modem - just a network connection. Your ADSL line will be able to connect to an ADSL modem though, and that's what will connect to your PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor.
What I also want to know is, why does the adaptor have HDD written on it, when it isnt a hard drive?

I was on the PS2 Online Beta trial
Then some lowlife toerag climbed in my open front window when I was in the back garden, and back out with my PS2, Network Adapter, a game, two controllers and my memory card with all my game saves on it

Don't answer now, I've just bought a PS2 from play for 149.99, network adapter 24.99, extra controller 17.99, memory card 15, total 208 quid so if anyone knows of a cheaper option, I don't want to know

Pretty good deal, I thought, as I had one of the original circa £300 PS2s, plus all the extra bits...
back to the top with a question, hoping that someone will help me out:
my pc and PS2 are right next to each other and they'll never both get used at the same time, can i just get:
1. bt broadband
2. an broadband modem
3. PS2 network adaptor
4. an ethernet cable which i can physically switch between the PC and PS2 depending on which one i want to use
i don't want to have to buy a router if i dont need it.

Yeah that should be fine if you have an ethernet port on the adsl modem.
Don't bother with a router anyway, you can buy a small hub for not very much money and its far easier than using a router.
I just find it easier to leave the internet gateway pc on 24/7 and have all my devices go out through that. That way you can protect all your devices by a firewall.
Don't know the possibility of ps2 hackers out there but I'm pretty sure as the online system and ps2 hard drives become more widely used there will be hackers gaining access to other peoples ps2s over the net. A firewall on your pc will help prevent this happening if you let everything go through a hub to your pc.

**************, cheers mate.
i've got a little 4 port hub here somewhere.
now i know i don't need a router, i'll get the bt Broadband plumbed in and look for an ethernet modem (any suggestions?) and a couple of ADSL filters.
SOCOM online coming to my house soon!

Well got the hardware and eventually got it all connected.
The setup is easy enough in itself but it wouldn't connect. So after checking with Pipex that they didn't block the service/ports I had to call the helpline in the back of the booklet that comes with the adapter.
It turns out that there might be a possible bug. If you set it all up correctly, it does the diagnostic test fine but then doesn't connect at the last stage you need to do another network configuration file exactly the same as the first one and just give it a different name. Then when you try and connect and it doesn't you choose settings and change it to the new network configuration file and save it as the default and then it connects straight away.
However I was only the 2nd person to have had this problem allegedly (just typical of my luck)
If anyone tries it and has any problems let me know as I went through a few things with the technical bloke today and may be able to help and save you calling the helpline.
Haven't played it much yet as the gf wasn't too chuffed I spent 3 hours this afternoon p!ssing about setting it up and being on the phone but did have a quick try on Midnight Club II (for testing purposes obviously
) and it looks pretty damn good
Much more testing to be doen soon
P.S. anyone know where I can get another headset for SOCOM without having to buy the game again??? I just want the headset only.
