good day at kh
#61
Thanks guys, warms an OAP's heart. Very satisfying day for me also, as the car behaved impeccably, and I got over 150 laps in, mostly with passengers.
The standard of driving was excellent, almost every one sticking to etiquette and making overtaking safe and easy. Scoobys, Evo's and Elises especially. Less track closure and red flags than I have ever seen, despite the number of spins and offs. In fact it makes me think that I am not trying hard enough, as I was not even able to induce one at the hairpin for the spectators. Still rate my tyres though, as the difference in lap times with most of the other cars was even more noticeable in the wet.
First time that I have spoken to the Chief Marshaller though about a cars driving. That green TVR Griffiths was a disgrace. He was just about the slowest car of the day into the corners, even more pathetic in the wet, yet hogged the whole track, as nobody was going to outpower him on the straights. In the end I passed him on the hairpin, waved him passed on the pit straight, but it still made no difference. I then dropped back and waited for a group that knew how to drive their cars.
Biggest mistake of the day was stating that it was probably the first time that Scotty and I had completed a whole track day, then driven our cars home. Scotties conked out just beyond Crieff. Sounded like a single very loud tappet clonk, so could be a valve. We took the back roads home, roofs down, missed the torrential rain, but drove through the consequences. Round a corner, into a dip that had become a pond. First one not too bad, second one I swear the car floated, but got grip again before it went swimming into the bank. Problem is that you do not know how deep they are, I was leading, until you are in them, and you can not take them slowly or you probably would not make it through. The rainX had worn off by then, so no wiper made it interesting.
Net result is that I was absolutely shattered when I got home, had a sauna and Jacuzzi, and crashed out. Must be getting old.

ps Steven Was it you in the black Evo that came over and spoke to me?

Black evo 7 was lemmy of the evo forum
I had a brilliat time, talking of etiquete i have on video the White RA holding me up, the 52 plate caterham wasn't too keen on letting people past either, never had a run in with the griffith though.
Cant wait for the next one, my littel shopping hatch certainly surprised me on track, some of the elises too i think

Hi Tut,
I meant to come over and say hello, but i was all over the place taking pics.. Then when i did make my way over you popped back out on the track again.
Next time i'll make the effort to come over sooner.
I actually thought that the silver Merc wasn't doing too well. Sometimes getting his lines a tad out of shape, especially going into Duffus. But, i'm nobody to make any judgement..just my opinion.

Tut, I was driving the silver evo 6. I let you past just after the chicane near the begining of the session whilst i was learning the new car
I havea few of your laps on video from the side of the track and u were putting in 1:04 alot. Good laps!
As you said, driving etiquette was really good by nearly everyone. I really enjoyed the day
AFR: Thanks for independently verifying the point of track etiquette some people seem to have lost the point behind it.

Sounds like some people had a problem with me and my driving on Saturday. All I can do is apologise for my totally sh@t driving that held every one up for the four hours of track time we had.
I would like to thank the guys (TVR GRIFF & Escort Rally car) who gave a good battle round Knockhill when it was dry in the first half. It made the day more challenging. Caught you on the corners but couldnt make it past some of you on the straights, but hey, its only cause your cars were faster than mine.
Thanks to DONK and Mxally for your support, but ruels are rules and no mistakes are allowed!!
Best just stick to my sunday drives with my Mummy and Daddy until I pass my driving test.
By the way. Anyone who thought they were catching the Escort Cossie?? I dont think so. Full tarmac racing spec with 433bhp!
Say no more.
Once again. Apologies for ruining the day.

I actually thought the standard of driving was pretty good and over the 5 years I've been doing these SIDC track days, I've certainly seen a lot worse.
I did hear 1 comment from a first timer who was passed by the silver Boxster at the bottom of Duffus Dip into the right hander. A definate no pass zone.
And as John S said Necomers should be given space.
