Yes me! I've been looking for a decent VGA touch screen for the car for about 2 years! If this turns out to be any good I can finally relax

The touchscreen does reduce some brightness, but there's ways around that, such as anti-reflective film that I use with a libretto...

Every time we order will be different, but suffice to say that these were good value

how we go forward with the group buy is "interesting", as it would be more likely that a large shipment would definitely get hit with VAT.

Even so, with VAT paid, the units should be around 310 quid (265+VAT) dependent upon exchange rate.

I will get on with writing a full review ASAP!

Nick.

Question

I have only just registered here, but have been lurking here for quite some time, as a friend used to have a scoob and I am interested in getting one for my next car.

Anyway, is it possible for me to join a possible group buy on these screens, I am planning and in car pc, but using a laptop with a docking port and this would be absolutely perfect!!

Hope it is alright!

Question

Nick, how simple is it to get the touch screen interface working on one of these things?

Is it a low-level programming issue, simple API interface or case of configuring some existing code to run/configure the apps?

What language will you be using if it's proper development?

It comes complete with driver for all forms of Windows, and Linux too. System thinks its a mouse

Development for the software that I'm writing is in VB6, though I may change to VB .net if there's any decent serial comms modules for VB.net now. I'm using DirectX 8 to write the GUI.

I'm making use of Winamp, WinDVD and other pre-existing components.

Cheers,
Nick.

chiark: is this an interface that you are designing? If so I would be very interested in perhaps purchasing a copy that is if you are going to sell it!! I am using a Dell laptop with a docking station in the car fo the pc part, as I already have it and it is the cheaper way for me... An interface would be cool though as I have a feeling that Media engine is not built with vga input in mind...

Interesting thread.

In car PC would solve my MP3/DVD dilema. Just one newbie question though. How do you power the PC? Can a PC run off a car battery?

Would be interested to know how it works.

Cheers

Easy (sucky) way? Off an inverter - 30 quid for 300W at Maplins right now

Hard (right) way? use a dc-dc inverter. The Cubid case uses a 12V supply, but needs some form of regulation IMHO...

More soon. Just got the monitor set up running 852x480 and it is quite simply wonderful

do you reckon that it would be possible to mount this screen in a DIN mounted box, and make it flip out? Have been looking in my car and there is no where to mount it withou losing the headunit to the glovebox (which I would hate)

I know they do a flip out screen but it is not VGA and very expensive compared to if I did it myself...

So as you have the screen is it small enough to be able to do that or not?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to plan and see if it is feasable to get it into my car!
