How about a Nobel M12 GTO?
They are around the 45k you will be getting a car that really holds its value and possably one of the best handling/performance cars for under 100k

Consider the new Audi S4 as well - 344bhp from a 4.2 V8 is only slightly less than the RS4 but without the turbos, and it doesn't bend its wheels.
But I'd have the 996 - I wouldn't have given it a second glance until I drove one but it is by far the nicest car to drive I have ever tried. Make sure it's a C2, manual, coupe though.
Oh, just in case you haven't tried one, or they're off your radar - try an Exige too because they handle beautifully and give something completely different to a large, heavier car like the German ones you mention.
